Some helpful dietary changes

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Well so far my eating is still a work in progress. It is definitely hard to give up what you love, especially since I pretty much have a small range of acceptable foods. I am making some changes though and finding out what does work.

Changed my morning milk to hemp milk. I really don't have many breakfast options and I usually don't have time to make anything yet. I could still play around with buckwheat, quinoa etc. However, I'm waiting for my hemp protein powder to come in. So far I've been drinking the milk. It isn't what I would call tasty but it doesn't upset my stomach and I've read the numerous benefits so it's a keeper. I even read they make ice cream. Too bad they don't sell it down here.

Ever heard of Nutri West Products. The doc has me on their DSF, L-Glutamine and Total Probiotics. So far I've noticed some postive changes. I feel better during the day and I have regular BM's now. Went from one per week to 1-2 per day. Sorry for the TMI but it's progress. Eventually I want to ask about getting back on an enzyme prior to meals to see if this is also helpful. This is all the work of my nutritionist.

I can eat a dressingless salad with no problem. Did it today. Not what I call super tasty but no side effects. I bought some Agave and stevia. I know the doc said no sugar but I'd like to test these out to see if I can have some form of sweetener from time to time.

I found egg replacer at the market today and I'm considering buying it if I can put it to use. I also bought coconut oil. I love the butter. I want to use it for cooking and smoothies.

I was told lemon and ginger help with inflammation too so I may have some ginger, lemon tea with lunch from time to time and see if it helps. Yogi makes a brand that also contains peppermint oil which is also good for digestion.

Oh yeah the steps! I did 6585 today. It isn't 10,000 but it is better than yesterday and I kept the pedometer on all day so I say it's progress!

My personal challenge

Friday, December 03, 2010

I notice lots of people are making challenges for the month. I'm afraid to do too much giving my current condition but I can walk it. And I'm gonna!

For the next 7 days, starting tomorrow I'm gonna meet 10,000 steps per day! If I have to walk slow then so be it! The doc encourages exercise still and I love to walk so I'm gonna walk! My new neighborhood should be the perfect spot to get some stepping done!

I love to walk and it's excellent exercise. Most M.D.s favorite exercise in fact. I try to get over 14,650 every day but at least 12,500.

Is good news good?

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Well I'm still doing my thing, still managing with my anxiety. I've had some issues with palpitations, last Saturday in particular. My nurse told me it was normal for the heart to fire up a few PVC's PAC's etc. Sure doesn't feel normal though and not everyone gets them. At least they were able to read them so now I prove to my mother I'm not crazy. She said so far she's impressed with my readings and everything looks good but I'm still scared. I don't know that I'm going to be able to shake dealing with my issues, especially because I get them during exercise. I have not exercise too much lately. I figured I would try to over the next couple of weeks and see how it makes me feel.

I've been going to a therapist to deal with my anxiety. My cocktail of a BB with clonazepam does seem to work but I'm anxious to know how long I shall remain on either med. There are so many interactions with these meds and I want to take additional herbs to correct my gut but am afraid to.

The L-Glutamine with Probiotics with my B vitamin has been helpful. I'm only taking it once per day though. Not sure what regimen I'm supposed to be on but I see the nutritionist tomorrow so hopefully she'll clarify.

I believe I'm supposed to be tested on my intolerance but I'm not sure how they'll do that. There isn't much that I don't react to but I've realized this past week how much I really need to read labels.

For example. Fried Food gives my tummy and chest a fit. Well the food is breaded with flour but that's not all! If you cook the meat with vegetable oil, it turns out that vegetable oil is 100% Soybean oil and I'm very very intolerant as most are with leaky gut. Soybean oil is in mayo too which explains my problem with that. *sigh*

I know that I can't tolerate

Soy
Sugar
Gluten
Dairy

I've also been told to avoid potatoes and corn and they have proven to be problematic in the past.

I don't even think fake sweeteners is allowed. So basically in order to look at this half full I'm going to have to figure out what the heck I can eat!

Did I mention we moved!? I love it! Especially our jacuzzi tub! It's two story though and that will take some getting used to.

I am so hoping that they can find a way to help you. Try not to worry as it won't help your condition. Change takes time and you will make changes that will help you. You have already learned a lot. emoticon

But the good news.....a jacuzzi sounds really good right now.

Jacuzzi! I'm coming over! I finally went to my new specialist, and she changed my meds to a BP/HR monitoring medicine. We shall see if it works! She said since my episodes are infrequent, that's the best thing to do at the time.

OY! Sounds like you are going to have a super duper difficult challenge trying to figure out what your body can tolerate. You may have to consider going vegan or even raw. Yikes! What a challenge! You will be in my thoughts as you figure out what you can eat!

Prognosis of my gut

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Well I went to my first holistic doctor's visit. I told her about everything from the gut to the heart as to what is going on with me. She told me that I'm not in bad shape. She thought the biggest problem that I had was my gut and it needed to be corrected. They tested my saliva and urine.

Basically I learned I was digesting nothing properly....NOTHING! My mineral levels were low and basically everything that I was digesting was fermenting in my gut. Where this came from I don't know but I suspect it was eating gluten and sugar while I was on weight watchers. My body's malabsorptive issues were just becoming aggravated.

The condition name is Leaky Gut. There's tons of info on it on the internet. Of course no doctor will address the condition. I guess because they can't treat it with a perscription. I don't have much faith in doctors.

I'm being treated on a special diet of protein, rice or sweet potato, and cooked veggies for the next couple of weeks. (Not sure how that's gonna go on Thanksgiving) I'm gonna really try hard to keep to the plan though.

I'm also on an herbal regimen of L-Glutamine three times per day, Mineral Drops 1-2 times per day, B-complex three times a day and a probiotic once per day. She said that this is temporary. I will cut down my doses after about a week until my digestion is a bit more corrected.

No table salt, sugar, gluten, carbonation, caffeine....and a ton of other stuff. There is one site, leakygutcure that offers a full program for $40. She once suffered the same problem herself.

Which could be beneficial for me because I don't know how long I can afford the doctor here in Savannah. My first visit cost $250! Ouch!

Well I will keep you all updated. Weight loss is surely inevitable but in a healthy way I'm told.

Good for you on taking your health back into your hands. Most doctors don't know much about natural herbs to help anybody and all they know is pills that the pharmacy tells them about and if they do go against the pharmacy then they will lose their license to practice medicine. It is the drug industry that gives doctors their license to practice medicine.

Getting through the week

Friday, November 19, 2010

Well the past two nights, I've been able to get about 7 hours or so of sleep. Perhaps a bit less. I wake up at 1:30, 3:30 and 7:30. A pattern which I guess is not unusual for some. I wake up have the slight rise in heart rate, remain calm and go back to sleep. I have my cardio net and so I'm reporting everything.

I'm on Atenolol but I hate it. It makes me tired, clammy and my tummy is UPSET! I've cut down the dosage to 1/3 pill at night and 1/4 pill in the morning. So basically it's about 12.5 mg total. It's a small dosage but I can't function on more and it dropped my blood pressure too significantly.

I've had two therapy visits with my counselor and one with a psychiatrist. So now I'm also on clonazepam. I wanna stress that I love this med! It makes me care free! I need care free right now!

I hope that I can get some answers in the next few weeks. I'll accept panic attacks although that first incident felt out of my control. Hopefully I can get that control back.

To distract myself I've been trying new things. Wanted to start my job pulling horses but after two days, I decided its not for me! Ah well! I like my Crossmark job though and I hope that I can get back to it next week! My boss has been very supportive. I will need to find a way to generate other income so I know I'll be looking for something very part time soon. I'll figure it out! I wanna try and lose this weight too....the healthy way of course. My hiatial hernia massages have been helpful and I have an appointment with a holistic nutritionist next week. If I can't afford to go I may try and adopt a paleo type diet. It's been pretty successful for dieters with food intolerances.
