Running in my 1st 5K, Buffalo area join my team!!

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Hey all,

So I finally did it. Finally signed up for a 5k . wait, did I say A 5k...I meant 2!!! I'll be running in two 5k's next month. Am I crazy for doing them so close together?! I hope not haha.

The 1st run is to benefit the Heritage Center. The Run/Walk is scheduled for May 14th in Downtown Buffalo. The race starts at 10am! It will be a great day with music, post party lunch, beer tent, theme basket, raffles, local celebrities and much more!

The Heritage Centers Foundation serves as an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities by securing community support on behalf of the children and adults served through Heritage Centers. The agency has nearly 60 years experience delivering comprehensive services to individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families.

If anyone is from the Buffalo area and would like to participate, just leave me your e-mail address. I would love to have some fellow Sparkies on my team! You can chose to either walk or run and it's just $20 to sign up!That includes your Post Party Meal, Beer Tent and T-Shirt! If you can't participate, but would be interested in supporting my fund raising efforts, again, just leave me your e-mail and I'll be glad to send you some information!

Awesome! That sounds so exciting! :D

I'm doing my first 5k with my sister in August, except I have no running experience and my sister is super out of shape so we'll just both be walking. I might force her into some jogging though!

Thanks to Yoovie

What Is Your Body Type?

Your score is 1.58.

Your body is between an EndoMorph and a Mesomorph. Choose a middle approach between the follow recommendations.

Endomorph: An Endomorph's biggest concern should be the losing of fat and adopting a lifestyle that keeps it off. Strength training should be done to get a better muscle to fat ratio and therefore improve metabolism. Use moderate weights at a fast training pace (very little rest between sets and exercises). You should lower your calorie intake (but not try to starve yourself) and should eat frequent but small meals. Sugars, sweets and junk food should be eliminated from your diet. Engage daily in some activity like brisk walking, biking, etc., and try to increase the amount of time you spend each week.

Mesomorph: Mesomorphs have a naturally fit body but to maintain it or improve it you should exercise and diet correctly for your type. Strength training can be done more often and for longer sessions then would be good for an Ectomorph, but you must still be carefull not to overdo it. You should train with moderate to heavy weighs and at a moderate pace, not resting too long between sets. You will find you gain muscle quite easy (some women and even men might not want to get too bulky, but this won't happen suddenly. When you are happy with your muscle size simply train to maintain it). Stick to a good healthy diet to keep you lean and muscular, and watch for any slow creeping fat gains. Engage in and enjoy aerobic activities, sports, etc. but do not overdo.

I don't know if you are still feeling this way or not but I just went through this. I started binging on Friday and didn't stop until Monday.

What helped me? I decided enough was enough! I sat down and wrote a blog about what I was doing to myself, what I want and how I'm going to do it. Check out my blog Some Tough Questions ANSWERED! As always with binging, you don't really realize what you are doing until it's too late so I had to really think about what i was doing to myself!

I hope that helps.

stepping off of the scale for a while

Friday, March 18, 2011

Hi Sparks!

I've been doing pretty good with everything (GO ME) and I was talking to one of the trainers at my gym. He told me "Don't weigh yourself for 90 days!" uhhhh What!? Is he nuts? Does he realize I would go crazy not knowing? I'm going to do what he said... sort of. I have decided that I am not going to weigh myself until April 18th. 1 month. I think his whole point was to focus on feeling better, eating healthier, and working harder...not focusing on the number on the scale. I'm weighing in at 206.5 today. In one month hopefully ONE-derland will surprise me :) Can't Wait!!!

wish me luck!

I'm so proud of your decision to trust your trainer and lose the scale for awhile. As you know from my blog, I believe that the scales can bring more harm to our attitude than good. I hope you really rock your work-outs and eat healthy while you're taking a break from the scales. You go, girlie!!!

I am (was) a daily weigher and it was really bringing me down! So I have taken my scale out of my bathroom completely and only weigh once a week. I would like to eventually go longer between weighings, but I don't think I could ever do 90 days!

Good luck! You can do it!

That's a great commitment! I could never stay away for 90 days, haha. :) The most I've managed is a week... once. Lol. You really do start noticing progress in other areas though, so I think it's a great mental exercise.

This might be a good idea. The weighing in is starting to get me down. I weighed in today at 207.6. I will skip the scale for as long as I can.
