Back tracking? HELP!!!!!!

Friday, February 12, 2010

So Ive had an awful start to febuary. I stopped going to the gym, PMS cravings and crankiness have totally destroyed my hard work. I want to go to the gym but here I am back at square one, feeling like I need to hit myself over the head to make myself go to the gym. What do you think? Should I back track and start just doing a few mins on the elliptical again? Or make myself do the full 30? how the heck can I get over this bump? HELP!

Someone made a comment a week or so ago that has helped me so much. I have an elliptical but I watch the clock, steps etc. and it was really a chore. Now I took their suggestion and pop in a movie to watch and the time just flies. I make sure water is handy because that also helps me to put in more time.
I will not allow myself to finish the movie off of the elliptical.
The last one I watched was First Daughter and I loved it. emoticon emoticon

Plan on the whole 30, but listen to your body and maybe back off the intensity a touch instead of stopping early. Good Luck, I think you'll do fine!

I say go for the 30 minutes - if you only last 20 then that's not so bad - just do what you can - your body will guide you. Good Luck!!

I say go for the whole 30! Your body is conditioned, even with the breaks. Your muscle has memory. But do the best you can! YOu will do great.

Just figured out the Nutrition facts for Rachael Rays Black Bean Stoop Recipe

Saturday, February 06, 2010

I just made this soup OMG its wonderful! If you like spicy southwestern stuff, ya gotta try this! heres the link to the recipe, and I worked up the nutrition facts! only thing i didnt add up was the sodium, I forgot but I can get it next time I make it, Im sure this will be a staple in my house
it says on the site it serves 4. that works out to just shy of 2 cup servings.
cal-419
fat-10
sat fat-1
carbs-61
protein-25
fiber-21
sugar-4

heres the link to the recipe. I didnt make the sandwiches, just the soup.

el-ray/black-bean-stoup-and-southweste
rn-monte-cristo-sandwiches-recipe3/index.html

I added some ham and some kale into the soup, which I didnt include in the above nutrition facts, but you could add anything to it to make it a meal. I was thinking brown rice and some avacado on top

    Nichole,
have you already made/added/shared this recipe on Sparkpeople? Am I able to go and get it w/ all the nutrition info so that I can add it to a meal plan? Either way, this sounds amazing! Delicious. A meal with flavor and substance! :D Great find! emoticon

That black bean stoup recipe sounds great. The sodium content will vary depending on the type of canned beans and tomatoes used. I think I'll try this soon -- need to buy more black beans.

Weight Watchers Vs. Counting Calories.

Friday, February 05, 2010

Anyone have a preference? Ive been doing weight watchers for a while, but as I look closer and closer at it, I think I am over what should be my calorie range, and Im thinking I might be taking in too much fat. What are your feelings?

OK! Thank you guys for helping me! I thought inorder to use the spark nutrition thing you had to use the meal plans they had! I also didnt realize you could move meals like you said! AND I didnt realize it would make a grocery list for you of what you ate! I thought the grocery list was only for their meal plans! How cool! I think I might be getting a hold of this AND I already see my thoughts were right and WW was giving me too many calories! Im going to play with this this weekend and see how I can make some changes and use spark for now because I was definately getting stuck with WW. Thank you!

I agree with JLK logging the food is not hard and I have done as she says too, clicking the button to the side of your food entry to add it to another day. Consistancy is key though (something you'll see I have been bad with if you look at my food tracker) but once you are actually on the site it takes just a minute to track everything.

One thing I have started doing to make it easier on me is rotating breakfasts. I have 3 that I like and think are good nutrition wise and so those are my go-to's. For me the less I have to think about meal planning the better, LOL! I haven't tried using the meals they plan for you, I have found that usually with those type of things there are a few items that I don't like and so I end up just about changing the whole meal anyway.

It's not hard and it doesn't take that long to log your food and cardio into SP, especially if you like eat the same breakfast you just copy it from the day before.

I used to do WW a long time ago and found that it wasn't realistic. I love Sparks as Bridget says it teaches you about what to eat and how much we should eat. It a good thing to change our lifestyles.

I noticed that too Bridget with the free foods, you're right, it does add up. I want to do the spark program but doesnt it take a lot of time to log it all on the computer? i just dont have the patience, Id say the time but that would be a lie lol

I did WW online for a whule a few years ago. Initially I did lose weight pretty easily, 25 lbs in just 3 months but after that my loss tapered out and I never got to the 50lb loss that I was aiming for. I considered going back to WW before joining Spark but decided against it because I think the Saprk program is more realistic as a lifestyle change. I don't want to have to carry around a points calculator for the rest of my life. Learning about calories, fat, carbs, etc is something that I can use for the rest of my life in any situation. Also on WW there are "free" foods but really everything contains calories (even a stick of sugar free gum is 5 cal) so I was worried that is what prevented me from getting to my goal the first time. The transition can be a little hard at first (I have a friend who is going through it right now) but definately worth it in the end.

Arm Fat!

Friday, February 05, 2010

Ok, I have always been overweight, since a young age. But I have always atleast been able to say I didnt have fat arms! about the only thing I could claim that wasnt fat! from 2006-june 2009 I lost over 100lbs, and my arms really looked great. from june 2009 to recently I put on 30lbs. And I really think most of it went to my arms! I cant believe how big they have gotten! Why now? Anyone know? I cant believe at 30 yrs old now I am going to have to say I am having this problem!

Me too. I remember secretly thinking, as a child, that one of my favorite family members had big, flappy wings of upper arms, and I remember thinking, "GAWD! I HOPE THAT NEVER HAPPENS TO ME!!!!!" Guess what! It did. The flappy thing really makes me feel silly. I never go sleeveless. The only difference was, she was in her 60's and I am in my 30's. She also had a bus load of children (Catholic) and I have two of my own. She was a saint of a woman. Still, I want shirts that don't squeeze my upper arms. My upper arm is bigger than my husband's! I remember the shocking day I discovered THAT! I just wanted to say that I feel your pain and am looking forward to us meeting our goals here on Spark People! Here's to US! :D

I wish I knew, but I have fat arms too. I hate them because the clothes all seem to show arms. I am looking for some type of exercise to do for them, but haven't seen anything which is why your blog title appealed to me.

Good luck!

Bad Day

Monday, February 01, 2010

Got up this morning, and I was just dragging
I got on the scale for my weekly weigh-in, only 1lb, for 5 days of 30min on the elliptical humm
tried not to let that get me but,
then my IPOD wont work so no tunes for the gym GRRRRR
trying to think positive I thought well I can watch the today show at the gym
did my workout but I barely broke a sweat, whats up with that? Frustrating
then I went to do my running around, good thing of the day, I got all paper work
finished to start my new job, yeay
Then whhen i got home there was voicemail on my cell,
my Uncle Jamal suddenly passed away :( MAN
So now Im bummed and what do I do? Im weak and I head to the fridge.
Mindless eating all afternoon. This tells me Im not as far in this battle as I thought I was
Ill just have to pick myself up and start a new day tomorrow.

Sorry about your loss. All of those things happening at once would drive me to the fridge also. We all have these kinds of days unfortunately! The good news is you can wake up tomorrow and start a brand new day. 1 # is better than 0, so you are going in the right direction. Keep it up, tomorrow will be a better day!
