25 pounds down!

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Wow, I haven't been out here since July! As of this morning, I am down 25lbs and into the 170's! I am so excited, this was completely unattainable in my eyes just 3 months ago when I started the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle.

My 2nd weight loss goal was to be out of the obese category & into overweight by 9/30. I will miss that, as it's still 10lbs away, but that's ok. I'll be hitting it soon enough. That will also mark the 1/2 way point in my weight loss journey.

This is the first plan to have given me hope. I truly believed I was destined to be fat and unhealthy (and ugly, in my mind) for the rest of my life...and I am not even 40 yet! I'm feeling so good, can't wait to break into the 160's and see what the next 3 months hold!

I never cook anything separate for my family, although they can have extras that I won't have, since I still have lots to lose. I may have brown rice/quinoa, while they may have mashed potatoes. We have the same main dish and lots of veggies. My husband is enjoying it, and is trying to get on plan 100%, or at least closer to 100% than he is now! He doesn't have much to lose...maybe 10-15lbs, but that could be pushing it, too!

I just picked this book up at the library. Love reading your update! Can I ask - is everyone in your family eating on plan? I have teens and wonder if it's do-able with them.

I hit my first goal early!

Thursday, July 18, 2013

My goal was to hit 190 by 8/31 and I hit it Tuesday...6 weeks early! I'm finding with THM, it's hard to not lose! I lost another 4.1lbs this week. I'm completely ecstatic, and super excited about this way of life! My family visited Six Flags on Monday and I was able to stay on plan (yes, we brought our own food), but I was shocked at the number this week...I actually hit the 180's...at 189.2!

I checked the BMI calculator & I'm still labeled obese. My next goal is to hit overweight. Wow, that sounds sad! I need to weigh 168 to make it there. I'm shooting for the end of September. Let's see how I do! emoticon

Still Going Down....

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

I'm still working on the Trim Healthy Mama plan & I'm loving it! I just can't say enough good about it. I finished up week 4 last night & weighed in this morning, for a 3.5lb loss! I've now lost a total of 11.1 lbs! I went to Savers today & bought size 16 shorts. They zipped perfectly, although they're still a bit snug in the leg. I also bought 2 shirts. They don't quite fit yet, either, but I don't think it'll be long. Just finished measuring...down 4"!

I had my husband hide the scale this morning after I weighed in. I've developed a habit of weighing every day, because it's so darn exciting to see it move! However, the fluctuations are killing me, the authors call the scale a "joy robber". Yep. If Monday had been my official weigh in, I would have been down 4lbs, rather than 3.5. See? It robbed me of my joy. If I hadn't weighed in yesterday, I never would have known and would have just been over the moon for 3.5. I was excited, but well, you know.

So, no weighing for me til next Tuesday. Let's see what this week brings.

Oh my goodness, you're just like me.

I have a serious daily weigh-in problem. I just posted a blog about how I have to go back to weekly weigh-ins. After awhile, that roller coaster scale starts to affect my motivation throughout the week. Congrats on your weight loss.

Trim, Healthy Mama!!!

Friday, June 28, 2013

I see it's been quite awhile since I've been here on Spark People. Since then, I've given up the gym. I hated to do it, but we just don't have the $40/month for it. I was getting very frustrated with my weight loss, or rather, the lack thereof. In the months going to the gym, I lost a whopping 5 pounds. I know, I know, muscle weighs more than fat, but geez, 5 lbs?

I also lost my grandmother, which was heartbreaking. She was 96, but pretty healthy. She passed almost 2 months ago. I had to shop for something to wear to the funeral. I was a complete basket case in the store. After 1/2 dozen stores, I finally something that fit and looked alright. I was my Nana's girl, the youngest of 4 grandchildren and the only girl. My only regret is that I didn't get my weight under control before her death.

Enter Trim, Healthy Mama. I noticed some posts showing up about it on a couple of groups I'm a part of. The comments I kept reading were very positive, so I decided to check it out. The book is $36. Pretty steep for me. But, I prayed about it and ordered my book, not knowing what to expect.

I dove into the book and read in between finishing up our yearly schooling and well, just life with 5 kids! I've read before some of what they wrote, like our bodies burning 2 types of fuels (glucose and fat), but it never clicked. This time, it did.

The authors write that while the body burns both fuels, it will always burn glucose first. Take your typical McDonalds' meal. Cheeseburger, fries, diet coke, perhaps? You'll get fat from the burger and the fries, and lots of glucose from the carbs in the soda, bun, and fries. Lots of fuel, but the body will work through the glucose first. However, we all know what happens with a carb-heavy meal like that, right? Blood sugar spike, crash, then more carbs to energize us again. We never give our bodies the opportunity to burn the fat, so it is stored.

Their suggestion: Stop dual-fueling. They offer the following;
"S" meals. "S" for "Satisfying". Higher fat, lower carb
"E" meals. "E" for "Energizing". Higher carb, lower fat.

Just enough of the lower fuel to help mineral absorption, Not enough carbs to spike the blood sugar.

There are also Fuel Pulls (low carb and fat) and Crossovers...for when you're close to your goal weight & ready to maintain, which I'm not!).

Not sure what you want to think of that, but I'm on week 3 and I'm seeing results. I lost 6.2lbs my first week, 2.6 the second. I just a hair shy of 10lbs down as I'm writing this. Let me tell you this. In all honesty, within 3 days, my snackies disappeared. I couldn't walk through my kitchen without grabbing "something" for a snack. A handful of chocolate chips, a piece of bread...you get the idea. No wonder my weight wouldn't drop! I wasn't honest with myself! The foods I'm eating are GOOD! They are filling. I have not once gone to bed hungry!

What I've noticed so far:
1. My face is a bit thinner
2. My stomach is a bit flatter
3. I have more energy during the day
4. I'm sleeping better
5. My moods are more even-keeled
6. I'm happy
7. I'm SO EXCITED to jump on the scale! (How weird is that?!!)

Whenever I'd think about weight loss goals, that first 10% seemed SO far away. 20 lbs. Wow, that's hard! I still have a hard time believing I'm about 1/2 way there already. I know the loss is bound to slow down, but that's ok. I'm enjoying the ride, for sure! Once I hit that 10 lb mark, it'll mark my lowest since I was pregnant with #5 (I always drop weight at the beginning of a pregnancy & I dropped 11 that time, landing at 194). After that, the next goal is 189, which will be the lowest since my 8 year old (#3) was about 1-1 1/2 years old.

I've also been thinking about other types of goals, not related to the scale. The first is to wear my wedding & engagement rings again. Our 15th anniversary is 8/1, so that's my goal. What a great anniversary gift, eh? My 2nd goal is to get rid of my CPAP. Oh, how I loathe thee! Love how rested I am, but I am so done with it! My goal is for the end of the year.

What are your non-scale goals? I'd love to hear what you all are shooting for!

I just started the Trim Healthy Mama because a friend of mine looks fantastic after doing this diet and I have read nothing but positive things about it. It is very healthy. I am noticing in just a few days of being on it that I am not starving at night for a snack. Today my husband and I went to Wendy's for a salad. I could only eat half of it because I got full. On this diet you can eat carbs and fat. It is just about making sure you eat the right foods together.
You go by this:
E= less than 5 fat grams
S= less than 10 carbs*
FP = less than 5 fats & 10 carbs
Fuel Pull foods can be paired with *any* type of meal or snack...they are the "khaki skirt" of THM...they go with everything.
*limit store-bought breads to 6 carbs & don't count non-starchy veggies

Just curious...do you know if there is a THM team on Spark People? I can't seem to find one, but I see a few people are following THM. I would love to find a team with people using the THM book. Just started in late December, but I've lost 8 pounds!

Yvonne, the name of the book is Trim, Healthy Mama by Pearl Barrett and Serene Allison. You'll love it! It's a hefty read, over 600 pages...I'm still haven't finished it! I aim for a chapter a day...

FitFrit:
I haven't restarted the exercise portion yet...I'm going to start moving again this week. I love Kettlebells, so will work with those and I have Wii Active and a mess of DVDs. Plus, it's summer! I bought a 2-person jump rope for the kids & I to play with!

I haven't read this book you are talking about, but I too have 5 kids and I know how crazy it can be and that is the exact reason I don't go to the gym. I have no issue with cardio, I walk or ride my bike, do the local monster staircase and I own an elliptical and stationary bike but I have no strength training stuff...I'm working on using my body as resistance though. I am finally on my way to getting healthy and this time FEELS different. For instance the kids had little caesars earlier this week and I had a homemade pizza with a flatout in the broiler and omgosh it was SO good. The kids and hubby had carrot cake the neighbors gave us and I am eating grapes.
Yep, this feels different!

That you for sharing all this wonderful information. What is the name of the book and author I would love to read it if you would not mind. I like you feel trapped and cannot seem to lose much at all.

It seemed so interesting. Like you I would love to fit in my rings especially my diamond which I can only visit and to get ride of my CPAP to would be so wonderful the marks on my fact the neck aches so my goals are like yours and yes I would like to go to a funeral or affair in the family without all of them looking at me and poking fun at how fat I got as if its funny. Have been through more traumas than they have ever gone through and I wouldn't be so unkind but that is life and people.

Hope your able to help me here. Thank you again and keep up the great work.

Thank You Again
Yvonne

Still hanging on

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I haven't been out here in almost a month! I'm still sticking with the gym, still working on new habits, although slowly. My 199 didn't last long, I bounced right back up into the 200s, which is what has always happened for the last 6-8 years. Ugh, so frustrating! I'm determined not to let it stop me, though. I WILL get there!

My friend, Deb, posted monthly goals for herself & I liked the idea. So, here I go:

The 2nd 1/2 of March:
1. Drink more water. I'm GREAT on the days I go to the gym (2 water bottles...32 oz by the time I get home), but am lacking on the other days. emoticon

2. Move more throughout the day, especially non-gym days. I'm very sedentary on those days. It's starting to warm up here, so it's time to lace up the sneakers and hit the road! My body wants to run and I'm not used to that. I used the treadmill once at the gym last month and loved it, but I'm very self conscious. Need to work on that and use it more regularly. emoticon

3. Go to bed at a decent hour. Ugh, I'm terrible at this one. I'm a night owl & I hate to go to bed at night. When I go to bed late, I have a really hard time getting up for the gym, or to work out here at home. emoticon

4. Weight? Um, there's only 2 weeks left of the month (can you believe that?), 3 lbs will get me out of the 200s again, so that is my goal. Doable for 2 weeks? I hope so!

During such times of regaining and becoming unmotivated, we need someone to reach out to. I would love for you to try our new team. It is a week old with now 50 members. The members can have an accountability partner to share their goals with and to share weekly spark mail.
If interested; it is called Partnership Accountability to the Finish Line. You can click on that icon from my sparks page from the teams that I have joined.

Would love to have you,
