Getting up on my feet again

Monday, May 19, 2014

I have been so down lately (literally). It is very painful for me to stand on my feet so I avoid it a lot. The Doctors cannot find anything seriously wrong. One doctor told me it was the arthritis in my ankles and knees as well as the break in my foot from childhood but that I would have to grin and bear it. Well I am trying much smaller goals these days.

I have a small appetite but I eat because I know I wont have energy without food. I walk goal of 1500 steps / day (up from 500). I just received my activity tracker so I will see how this works with my new moving goal. I am hoping that as I lose weight the pain of weight bearing on my feet will diminish and I will be able to do more. I have done much more in the past but I also noticed that I began spending more and more time in bed or on the couch after exercising because of the pain in my feet. So now when I sit on the couch I put ankle weights on my shins and lift and I lift my dumbbells as well. I am only doing things that does not cause further pain so that I hopefully can gain full mobility back.

I really hate water

Monday, December 10, 2012

Water is so essential to good nutrition and health. I hate the stuff. I know I have to drink it, so... first thing in the morning when I get up I try to down as much of the stuff as possible. I have a container that I fill up each day and when it is empty I know I met my daily requirement. If I eat something that is not planned I also drink an extra cup to help flush it out of my system. I hope this gets easier over time.

It helps to squeeze a slice of lemon or lime into it.

I don't really 'taste' water, but I like the cool sensation (ice water) in my mouth. Maybe you like ice water, or cold water, or warm or hot water better?

At first I used to add a wedge of lemon, but now I don't bother with that anymore.

I also used to drink unsweetened iced tea for my 'water' requirement. There are some that say this is incorrect, but if it works for you then it is still better than not getting hydrated.

I find that the hydration/water is a key to my weight loss. By keeping hydrated, it means I don't have to retain water, and I flush all the extra crud (fat?) out of my body.

And then I get an exercise boost by walking to the bathroom every hour too :)

It will, I have been drinking 8-10 glasses of water for about 33 years now & I can't go a day without it. Pretty soon your body will crave it. It is so good for you & good for your skin. Keep up the good work. Maybe try adding some flavoring, I don't but a lot of people that don't like water find it easier to drink. emoticon

HERE I GO AGAIN

Monday, December 03, 2012

So many health issues, the passing of my mother and the need to care for my dad. I have been so engulfed in doing everything for everyone that I have gotten into a self-destructive spiral. I went back to indulging in all the bad foods and habits. I am starting fresh. I have been in a wheelchair for a while and I am just beginning to stand up on my own again. I will take things more slowly this time and try to be more honest with myself and goal focused. If I have a bad food day then it will be just that and not a bad food week. Each day I will start anew and hopefully succeed this time.
I have gained so much weight in that wheelchair. My ankles are hurting again and so are my knees. Unbelievable, I used to love gymnastics and received trophies for it, now, walking is a struggle. I want my life back so I have to be accountable.

Are you familiar with INDYGIRL ? She used to be in a wheelchair and has lost a lot of weight on SP. She has her own team and is on our SU team also. Maybe she would have some tips on exercise.

We found it helpful in the loss of our son. There may be a local group if you and your dad can get out to attend.

If your body was strong and athletic in the past it will know how to get back there! You've been through a lot. Losing your mom, taking care of your dad, your own limited mobility-in time like this we look for food as our comfort and mental medicine. Too bad it sometimes turns around and becomes our poison!!
I am happy for you that you are able to start walking again!
Post often about your progress and I am sure you will get a lot of feedback-this can help you to stay on the right track. emoticon

Getting back on slowly

Friday, October 14, 2011

Well trying to get back on the wagon again. Took some time and mental adjusting. I am hoping to be more on the wagon than off this time.

Stress and life has a way of removing what is important in life and this is one of them. I just have to get my priorities in order.

Feeling like I fell off

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

I have been trying so hard to follow this plan and I love it. I have mostly been following the suggested menus until I learn to make my meal plans for myself. Food and nutritional intake feels like such a chore. I know it is worth it because this plan is working, but I feel stuck. I need to find some change to electrify my spark.

I think maybe the best and hardest skill with this healthy lifestyle is not amassing willpower, but getting back up when we fall down. I'm still learning to do that, but have made "Fall down 7 times, get up 8" my personal motto. Just because I fell face-first into the cookie dough doesn't mean I have to stay there. Thanks for the friend add!

Falling off is normal..we get bored, tired, overwhelmed..but the best thing you can do is stand up again and keep trying until you find something that's right for you.

Sometimes we falls off so we can recharged and get motivated again. Inspire yourself!

Play with recipes on SP! You don't have to follow the meal plan. Play around with it and make it work for you. You have to have fun with it and realize that this is a lifetime change. Experiment with new veggies. I've found that I now love bell peppers, egg whites, and mushrooms. I even made homemade granola the other day to go with my yogurt. Look for recipes on other sites that are health oriented. Just some tips! I know you will get that spark going and soon you will be ON FIRE!! emoticon emoticon
