Passing on the Fries

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

This afternoon I went with friends to lunch. After looking at the menu I ordered the shrimp quesadilla. When it came....surprise half the plate was filled with French fries. And for the first time in my life, I remembered some of my spark people coaching and didn't even look at them. Really that's amazing. Two months ago, nothing would have tripped my trigger like hot fries. Today...nothing. I don't know about you but, when I workout regularly and clean up my nutrition my cravings for quarter pounders and fries just goes away. I always know I'm falling into old sloth-like habits when every fast food place looks great.

You know I'm in the same boat, fries and chocolate cake are my absolute weakness. And I passed on the fries today too!

Stress and the dreaded committee meeting.

Tuesday, December 09, 2014

My work is relatively easy. I've had jobs I hate, jobs I like and now the one I love. When you love your job, the day is easy and energizing and a blessing. And then the committee meeting. Have you had this experience. The committee chairperson calls the meeting and then is completely unprepared. No agenda, no review of the previous minutes so we spent an insane amount of time covering items that are either history or filed. Finally, there's always one person who talks, talks, talks. I'd love to get the meeting back on track but in the spirit of delegating, I sit quietly and let the chairperson take care of her committee. This is the only time I felt stress today, and it lasted 3 hours. It was scheduled for 55 minutes. ugh

I love my public library.

Monday, December 08, 2014

Due to changes at my office, I have the day at home. This is always dangerous because, I eat when I'm at home. I slump in my lazy boy when I'm at home. I enjoy my husband and my dogs and I'm very sedentary....at home.
So, on days like today, I get out of the house, take a walk around the park, or just the parking lot, and enjoy the riches at the library. I get to feed my mind. My favorite part of the library is the magazine section. Really, I will never ever be able to afford a subscription to all the magazines that catch my fancy while I'm browsing.
And don't forget the library isn't really free, I pay for it with my taxes, so do you (where ever you live). Enjoy the enjoy your library and tell the librarians I say "hi".

Last Night's veggie soup is even better tonight.

Saturday, December 06, 2014

Veggie soup is so easy. Start with a can of diced tomatoes add, beef stock, tomato paste and whatever veggies you have on hand. I used corn, sweet peas, kidney beans and potatoes. Then add water. I added some dry French onion soup mix because I had it on hand. Otherwise I would have added salt, pepper garlic and probably Worcestershire sauce. On a cold winter night, veggie soup is great.

I find that most soup tastes best on the next day. It gives the veggies a bit of time to absorb the flavors. My favorite soup works the same way!

I miss the Farmer's market

Friday, December 05, 2014

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I sell Honey, beeswax and pollen at the Farmer's market. I love the Farmers market. But, it's winter, no body is harvesting beautiful produce so, the market is closed. Can you remember the joy in the summer when you saw your first ear of sweet corn, garden grown tomato, peaches that were picked 24 hours earlier, sublime. I can hardly go to the produce section of my grocery store because I know everything is trucked in from at least 200 miles. I miss the farmers market.
