Talking Bout a SLAP in the face!

Friday, October 01, 2010

Today is Day 1 of my 31 Day October Challenge!

But its also the first day i've weighed myself in couple months! The scale told me 298.4...WOW...that's a smack in the face out this world.

From 190 in 2004 to 298 in 2010!! I'm doing something totally wrong! Every since Nov of last year I have been putting the weight on and on and on!

I cant do this any longer! I'm sure a couple things and people have caused so much stress lately and that's one reason I've pilled the weight on but owell!

Only thing left for me to do is either go UP or go DOWN. My plan is to go down but i've been planning that and failing that since Nov 2009. I was 300lbs a couple a months ago so i guess the stress has made me lose a couple pounds!

idk! imma get it together.

Its going to be ok. I have been struggling with my weightloss because of not prioritizing. Keep working this thing. You can do it. We all can do it. You have set goals for yourself and that's a great start. Now work it!! You are used to being the caregiver, so am I and let me tell you one thing that I am absolutely sure of.....If you dont take care of yourself, there is no one to take care of you.(atleast not the way you'd like) *smile* You said your motivation is your younger brothers and sisters, then teach them this valuable lesson which transcends situations, even when things dont go the way you planned, DONT GIVE UP!!

Keep Sparkin'

You can make this happen. I know the feeling. I started the Summer at 255 and now I'm at 281!! So I'm feeling your struggle but this too shall pass. We can and shall do this. Let that stress go and make things work for you. Here's a little something that may help

DON’T LOSE YOUR PEACE OF MIND

We lose our peace of mind for four reasons: (1) We try to change the people in our lives. As you grow wiser you begin to realize that you can’t change other people, only God can! And He does, When you back off, and love them as they are. This doesn’t mean agreeing with everything they do. It means committing to love them regardless, claiming God’s promised on their behalf and allowing Him to deal with them His way, in His time and for His glory. The reason you’re stressed out may be because you keep trying to do something-about something you can’t do anything about! (2) We try to make things happen when it’s not the right time. “There is a time for everything” (Ecc 3:1 NIV). If you’ve raised children you know that one of their chief characteristics is impatience; they can’t wait for anything. God wants us to outgrow our childishness so He makes us wait, trust, and mature! (3) We get upset because we’re not progressing fast enough. You can slow down your spiritual growth through neglect, but ultimately, “We all…are being changed…[by] the Spirit” (2 Co 3:18 NCV). So learn to enjoy your life while God works on your problems, for you’ll always have problems! (4) We push ourselves harder and harder. We do what we think God wants without consulting Him as to what He actually wants, when He wants it, or how He wants it done. As a result we wear ourselves out. What’s the solution? “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is [focused] on You, because he trusts in You.”

If you think of being on an airplane they tell you that in case of an emergency and the oxygen mask become available, you are to put yours on first. You cannot help anyone else unless you help yourself first. It is hard, believe me I know, it has taken me a while and I still have issues now and then. I feel like I am being selfish and I think more of myself than others, but I know that is not true. If I don't have my mask on I won't be able to breath and I won't be able to help anyone around me. Keep your chin up we are all in this together.

You can do it. You can. Keep on tracking EVERYTHING...it truly helps keep you on task. And take at least five minutes every day to breathe and have quiet time. Use it to meditate, pray, whatever brings you calm. And remind yourself that you are worth it!

I'm not one much to talk as I have struggled with an extra 5 lbs myself this past few months...BUT...I find the FOOD TRACKER an INVALUABLE tool!! If I do it daily then I'm on a good path! It does the work for us, all we have to do is input our food. Then I can tell if I am eating right...or wrong!! I have also found that if I am out walking or ANY fitness, then the scale is my friend!! Good luck with staying the course. We CAN do this!!!

If I can do it you can! Becoming part of Sparkpeople is the best thing I've ever done. How I wish I'd found it earlier but anyway it's better late than never. And all my friends & aquaintances now know I am serious about getting my health back on track just as yours will be & won't tempt you with food that's not good for you. Enjoy your weekend.

Jazzercise or Zumba

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

I've been hearing a lot of buzz about these two fun work out classes. So which is the best and give the most results?

Hello , i know this is a really y old post but i just found it. I am a currently doing jazzercise and have been for 4 years. I have done 1 zumba class, zumba is a great work out for the core and legs because your using them. Jazzercise i would have to say is the better one. It is a great core workout as well but it also works every other area of your body. Burn up to 600 calories in one fun and powerfully effective 60-minute total body workout. Every Jazzercise group fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone and lengthen muscles for maximum fat burn.

Choreographed to today's hottest music, Jazzercise is a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing.
You have great equipment to use there also like free weights , tubes/bands, and exercise balls. If your goal is simply to move more and get your cardio on, either class will work. If you’re wanting to address the main components of fitness (cardio, strength, and flexibility), then do three to four Jazzercise classes per week.

Ive done both and would say jazzercise is a million times better since you danceand use weights and bands and the stabilty ball. You work your whole body. By the third time i went i could see major changes in my figure and so could everyone else. Jazzercise is more intense than zumba.

Zumba is great! No one cares how you look. Modify it as you go along to your level and just have fun! I look forward to zumba classes thru out the week. You burn calories and something fun ... why wouldnt someone like it. Even those without rhythm try and join in :)

You dont have to be afraid of how you look. Everyone in Zumba is trying to watch the instructor and no one is looking at you. It is a great workout and you start sweating in the first 5 minutes. It is fun and as you get used to the routines you can tweak it so you get a better workout, especially holding in your abs and really getting into the moves. The more you put into it the more results you will get. I have Zumba dvd's and I go to the classes at the gym. I prefer going to the gym, but the dvds are great for in the morning or when I just cant get to the gym. Dont forget to take a water bottle with you!

You won't look silly, because there will be a room full of people doing the exact same moves that you are! Just get there early to get a good spot next to the instructor, let him/her know that you are new and you would like to see some modifications for harder exercises (most are happy to help with this) and then cut loose and have fun!!!

A friend of mine goes to Zumba classes. She says that you sweat your booty off. I plan to buy a Zumba dvd for beginners and learn at home. If I can handle it, then maybe I'll join a class. Hope you enjoy your experience. Jeannie

Everyone looks silly at zumba class! That's the best part. Having fun, working out, letting yourself go. ^_^ Jazzercise is similar. It's aerobics class meets dance class. Both great for people who like to dance.

Starting Official Stress Busting Challenge: week 1. Day 1

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Ok week one of the Official Stress Busting Challenge I am to create a "public journal". I find this a bit intimidating. Who wants the whole world to know all your problems and what your going through??!?!!? Anyways here goes nothing.

week 1:

Start a stress journal. Keep track of the most common or intense stressors you encounter this week. Your SparkPage blog is a great place to track what causes you stress, how strong the stressor feels, and how you responded to it. You can also rate your daily stress level on this online tracker.
========================================
==========================

Week 1: Day 1: 6/29/10

The most current common stressor for me is school. I'm taking a load of 3 classes this summer, while working a full-time job! Anyone that know about college knows that 3 classes are too much during a normal semester (fall/spring) so during 3 classes in the summer is insane because your cramming 4 months worth of work into 2months!

Most of my week (7days) is spent studying and doing homework. Almost getting slight rest because I have to be at work at 7am. Sometimes I feel like I dont have a life. All my friends and family are enjoying the summer when I'm closed in a house all day doing homework. There are times when I bust into tears while during homework because I'm tired and wants to rest or enjoy the summer, but I can't I have many deadlines to meet.

I rarely get the time to spend with my boyfriend and it very sad at times for because I feel like I'm neglecting myself, family, and him; even though it's for a good cause.

School has caused alot of stress: weight gain, high blood pressure, mood swings, etc. The way I respond is by eating, sometimes drinking, secluding my self from others, , sex (sorry I'm being honest), and sleeping.

Day 1 complete wheww

emoticon

Tomorrow for Day 2 I will discuss both common and intense stressors for me: my weight and my condition PCOS. Stay tuned!

Hope this will help reduce some of your stress. Although I haven't done it daily, I do journal (not online, I'm not as brave as you) and it sure does help.

I agree with belljoann - you need to set aside some time for yourself. Best of luck juggling it all - it will certainly be worth it when you're holding that degree.

BELLJOANN 6/29/2010 11:15AM

They are right that this journal will help because people cannot help you if you dont tell them what you need.

I went to school for almost 10 years, worked full time, raised 2 kids...in an accelerated program. I took 1 class at a time but the workload was normal. The class was 5-6 weeks long. Papers due every week...group projects due every week. So I do understand.

You do feel that you don't have a life so here is what I did. I made sure that one night a week I did something for myself. Mine was a singles group that I went to. It really saved my life. It became just as important to me as my job and school. I never missed it. I made sure that I worked hard throughout the week to be able to take the 4 hours off. It releaved a lot of stress for me and made me feel better.

JoAnn
