Happy With My Progress So Far

Thursday, June 19, 2014

I've been going to Weight Watchers for the last four months and am pleased with my results so far. Almost 35 lbs down. Still have a lot to go but things have finally clicked and I am making this a way of life now. Still need to work on getting more exercise though.

Not a Bad Week But Could Have Done Better

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Well, it's the same old thing... Worked out for a couple days and then lost momentum. I tried to change it up by doing a different exercise program on the second day but it only ended up making my knees hurt.

Ah well... Live and learn. Will stick with the "walk to be fit" video. It is equivalent to a two-mile walk and gives quite a workout.

Here's to a better week next week.

Thanks for your support everyone. Will definitely keep going with the walking workouts.

That's great that you are listening to your body. I have bad knees too and it has taken me months to build up my intensity and endurance walking on the treadmill. When you don't feel like working out.... think about your daughter's wedding!! We don't want to be hiding from the photographer that day! emoticon

Walking is the best! Low impact but high rate of return. I like Mark Sisson's take on it.

I struggled to with keeping momentum. The best thing I did was joining challenges, one on spark and one at a local church. It keeps me motivitated to work out, it might work for you too.

Needing to Reassess

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Well, it's been a crazy couple of months. I've been working a lot of long hours the last couple months and, just when I thought I was going to get a nice break over Christmas, I ended up working along with putting my Mother in a nursing home and cleaning out her apartment.

I have been feeling very alone as of late. I live alone, eat my lunch alone at work as I have to fill in when everyone else is on lunch, then I'm alone when I get home. Most of the time it doesn't bother me so much, but lately it has really been getting to me. I know that no one can do anything to change this but myself, but I am just really feeling down.

My goal in the next few weeks is to decide what I need to do to make myself happy and feel good about myself. I struggle with self esteem issues and this is something I really need to overcome. I have never felt that I was "good enough" at anything... This is something I REALLY need to work on. This will help with my weight loss efforts as well as I am an emotional eater.

On a positive note... My daughter is getting married this Fall so that's exciting. Got to get enough weight off so I don't have to wear a dress that looks like a bag!!! lol

Positive thoughts!!!!

Sorry you are feeling down. But you are right.... YOU are the only one who can change this. I understand having low self-esteem and being an emotional eater, but you MUST step out of your comfort zone initially and just put yourself out there!! People are everywhere.... just strike up conversations with them!! Does your daughter live near you? If so, make a mother/daughter date with her occasionally. Take a cooking class.... join a scrapbooking club.... whatever you like to do, do it with others.

I talk to people all day at work so I love coming home and being alone!! (My hubby is in Florida working for the winter.) I do miss him, but its a nice break. LOL!

As I have told you, my daughter is also getting married this year. Thankfully, I had a couple of weeks back on track when she got engaged last September, so I have been really motivated since then. August is right around the corner, and like you, I do NOT want to wear a dress that looks like a bag (or tent!). Dig deep.... and set goals. Not just weight goals, but food and health goals.

Getting healthy is possible... for all of us. I am here for you anytime you need a boost. Everyday is a challenge, but we can do it.

Be sure to get sunlight exposure everyday for half an hour, near the noon time the better. And stay on your feet as much as you can. You'll feel better.

You've been through a lot lately! Part of what you're feeling may simply be the let-down and exhaustion (physical AND emotional) of all of that. Give yourself a little recuperation time!

Then, start to think of things which give you pleasure. What do you like? not what you ought to do, or what is productive. What makes you smile? where is your bliss?

Then go find things to follow those feelings. Even if it's only tiny things. Do you love nature? go to a park and have your snack. Watch kids and dogs playing in a park. Love to watch people? Go to a mall. Just hang out and watch. Reading? Don't always do it alone... go to the library. Find something new - a subject you'd never spend money on... you never know! Love art? visit some of the larger commercial buildings in town which display work from local artisans. Some cities have cultural centers which offer free or for minimal fees various art and craft classes. I took one one time on making pictures of natural items, placed on special papers in the sun - I made tons of beautiful one-of-a-kind stationery and cards! How about clay crafts? Take up a sewing hobby. Give a few hours here and there to volunteer groups who desperately need helpers. How about animal rescue groups?

There are so many things that are possible... you just have to give yourself that space and acceptance to do for YOU, and not just give for others. Both are valid. You're worth it, too. Don't let anyone but YOU decide whether you're "good enough" or not! Nobody can be you as well as you can.

Celebrate you!

It's OK to be alone. Being lonely hurts though. You'll come up with a plan to get together with more people, but in the short run, take advantage of SparkPeople for some socializing. Come post in the team forum and get to know some new SparkFriends. It's good for your mood and good for your self esteem too.

Always remember, esteem comes from the same root word as estimate, and that's all self-esteem is - a self-estimate. When you look at yourself be fair and be honest. Estimate your own self worth the same way you would your child's - looking for the good above all.

Busy !!!!

Sunday, September 08, 2013

Hope everyone has been having a good week. I have been really busy at work this week and haven't had much time to be on the site. Looks like next week is going to be about the same. Need to get some healthy vegetable soup prepared for my lunches next week so will make it short. If I don't prepare something ahead of time, I'll make bad choices.

Have a great week ahead everyone, and Keep Sparking!!!!
