Tour de Fat will come to Minneapolis for its first year here, joining ten other U.S. cities to have this fantastic event. This will be an event with and anticipated attendance of 3,000 celebrating and promoting bicycles transportation, and benefiting three local nonprofits: the Midtown Greenway Coalition, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota, and Minnesota Off Road Cyclists. Along with our exceptional ability to roust a city's inner-cyclist, in 2009 we hope to drive our message even deeper by bringing you a show of one lucky Minnesotan who will trade their car for a gloriously hand built commuter bicycle.
The event will be on Saturday, July 18, 2009
11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at the Parade Athletic Fields by the Walker Art Center's Sculpture Garden
(400 Kenwood Parkway)
Admission is free, $5 beers.
Prior to the party is a bike parade that will start at 10:00 a.m. and go all the way around Lake of the Isles on the parkway which will be closed to motorized traffic.
May the revival roll forth in the name of the bicycle!
The Coalition is Also Looking for Volunteers to Pour Beer!
All proceeds from the beer sales will benefit the Midtown Greenway Coalition. We're currently looking to fill 100 volunteer slots to check IDs and give out wrist bands, sell beer tokens, pour beer, bring water to volunteers and musicians, plus set-up and tear-down, all in an effort to raise some money for the Coalition. If you're interested in volunteering, please e-mail Tim Springer at Tim@midtowngreenway.org We're looking for people to volunteer for either morning or afternoon shifts for all tasks. Volunteering will be busy and fun, and you get a free t-shirt out of the deal too! Volunteer opportunities related to selling beer require a training the Wednesday before and trainees will be fed pizza and there will be an optional training afterparty with free beer.
YOU CAN BECOME CAR-FREE!
AND GET A FANTABULOUS COMMUTER BIKE IN TRADE!
If you want to be the hero, the star of our Tour de Fat in Minneapolis, enter your video, photo as to why you should be the chosen one to stand before your community pledging to live car-free! Write I WANT TO TRADE MY CAR FOR A BIKE! in your post and tell us why.
