Swamped at work

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

I'm swamped at work.. can I say that today is the 2nd time in less than two weeks that I've wanted to throw in the towel?! Once I get passed this horrible hump/project, things will go better. Oh, did I tell you that horrible hump/project is my job?! Lol.

For the record, I was able to work from home yesterday. I didn't tell family/friends that I was home because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't interrupted, but it was nice that I got to go back to sleep for an extra hour or so. Unfortunately, I think that I will be able to work-from-home this weekend... meaning way too much to do so that I will be forced to work in order to meet the deadline.

Running into some troubles with the Christmas shopping season. Usually for nephew and Bff's girls, they get presents for their birthday and money on Christmas for their savings. That's fine but BFF's seven-year-old turns 8 on the 24th Dec and this year, she wants Squinkies. That means that I need to battle everyone else for toys that seem to fly off the shelf. Half the time, the retail workers have no clue what I am talkign about when I say that I need squinkies... after much shelf-searching, however, they all agree they are sold out. AHHHHH! So now, I get to trudge from store to store looking for a gift before THAT deadline. It's the ONLY thing that she wants this year for her birthday. Yikes.

Did well on my lunch today. I had packed a turkey meal Lean Cuisine but went to the cafeteria instead for fresh Grilled Salmon w/ pesto on a bed of spinach, brown rice, fresh fruit, 2 tomato slices and a few pickle slices. Yum. Not too expensive either.. $6.28 with tax. Bargain :) I also managed to log my breakfast and snack into the tracker.. Whooo! Gettign ready for BLC15 in January. I believe my work will have a similar contest, also in January.

I hope work does get better soon. It's nice to be able to work from home. No commuting and you don't have to get dressed. It would suck to have to work over the weekend, though.
Good luck with the Squinkies....I've never heard of them.
Lunch sounds great.
I hope you get a break soon. emoticon

Whirlwind week

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Sorry! What a busy week with my new job and all.
LATE TO WORK ON MY FIRST DAY. Dumb weather/traffic, etc. I'll be glad to be done "training" (ha ha) so I can go to work earlier, thereby missing a majority of the traffic. Leaving at 6:30 is for the birds because I just sit and idle the whole way. Grrrrrrrr.

Didn't have time to work out.. Didn't have time to come home much, really.. I stayed late 1?2? nights? Brought work home this weekend ( just because of a Monday planning deadline). I should say that I would leave at ? normal? 4:30? 5:00? at night but get stuck in traffic the whole way home with almost 2 hr commutes home. Grrrrrrrrrrrr #2

Wednesday night I went to a mini information meeting about self-directed IRA's. I've been kicking that idea around for a bit. Didn't get a ton of new information but enough to make it worthwhile. OK. I ate two cookies while I was there.

Potluck at work on Thursday. Was good and had a normal plate, loaded it with the homemade salad ( couldn't tell what type of dressing it was tossed with but definitely a healthier choice than most items on the tables) HOWEVER caved when prodded to get seconds. Grrrrrrr #3

The new job is ok. It's a stressful time of the year to be new/jump in because of the scope of my job. I wanted to quit on day 4. Still up in the air on it. I'll have to see. Not sure if some of the pull is the actual job (there's a few things that are bothering me) or the fact that I'd rather NOT be working and wanted to take a year or two to do absolutely nothing and I feel cheated out of it!( I only applied for the job since it reports to an old friend/coworker.. she's now my boss.. otherwise I'd be happily @ home, in bed at 6:00am!)
I'll take some time to think about things.

this weekend is pretty low key. Tomorrow I'm heading out with 2 friends to negotiate for them on a popup camper/trailer. I guess they think I have a gift for that type of thing? Or at least they said they needed me to handle the finance/dickering portion. I'll be picking up my Lane Bryant order so it'll be time for a fashion show. I think that Saturday night I might go and play Skip-bo with BFF and her grandma? Maybe, we'll see.

Good to give new things time - sometimes it's just a matter of adjustment. Hang in there (for awhile!)

I hate getting stuck in traffic, so I totally feel you.
If I had to go to a meeting about financial planning, I'd eat a couple cookies too.
Don't beat yourself up about the seconds at the potluck, it's hard not to especially since you're just starting and feeling uncomfortable.
I'd give the new job a little more time to see how it woks out. Maybe when you're done with your training and can go in when there would be less traffic that would help. It does always take time to get settled in.
Sounds like a nice weekend! Have fun and relax a little I assume you have only a 4 day week at work next week. That might help, too.

First Day of Work tomorrow

Sunday, December 12, 2010

Haven't gotten my outfit picked out, or plotted my route to work BUT
I'm expected to start at 8am.
I'm not going to do a morning workout because I won't have the badge/access stuff for the facility but as soon as I get it, I'll make arrangements with a friend that works there to meet in the mornings. No workout after work, either because the Vikings game will be on.

I guess my day is jam packed anyway. I'm brining a nice, healthy fruit basket as a gift for my friend that helped get me the job. I'd decided that a week or two ago and was going to buy it from Coborn's ( a local grocery store) but they never called back on my special order. Just happened to see Target has fruit baskets on SALE, so that will do!

Woo HOo - at least the roads will be clear...
maybe go in a little early to allow some time to gather yourself before you even enter the building. Caribou coffee has some healthy oatmeal if you have time to got before work. Just a thought. Also, wear something that just makes you feel good, even if that isn't what you think is your best outfit.
I guess Finny will go through some booobah withdrawls. You should let me know if there is a good time for auntie time when you are settled.

You still have some time to think about your outfit and get your route plotted. Hopefully you won't be confounded my new road closures in the morning.
Working out before work may help with some of the "first day anxiety".
Fruit basket sounds like a nice gift.
Good luck tomorrow. I'll send some low anxiety vibes to you tomorrow.
