Local Twin Cities people- question for you

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Since I've signed on to be a co-leader for, I thought it would be cool to host a Meet and Greet.. not exercise related..

Does anyone have a suggestion for where to hold the event?
Does anyone have family/friends that owns a local coffee shop/grocery store/restaurant/ etc that has meeting space?

Suggestions welcome!!!

    That's a great idea! I'm not sure what the space is like, but Common Roots Cafe in Minneapolis has a meeting room that they let community groups use for free, I am guessing we might qualify?

Got a Smartphone? Try the iTriage App!

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

**** Copied from the North Memorial Health e-newsletter

Got a Smartphone? Try the iTriage App!

North Memorial is now a premier provider on iTriage, an online application that allows users to access medical information for thousands of symptoms and a long list of medical procedures. The app also makes it possible to find the nearest medical care facility whether youíre at home or on the road. You can easily search for the closest physicians or hospitals based on your GPS location, and get detailed directions to the facility.

How does iTriage work? Letís say you or a loved one have a pain in the lower-right abdomen. Is it simple indigestion, or something more serious like appendicitis? Within seconds you will find:

* A list of possible causes
* Descriptions and accompanying symptoms of those causes
* List of necessary diagnostic tests
* Standard treatment options
* Access to referral lines
* Medical facility locator

iTriage also helps consumers make more informed health care decisions based on quick access to information such as:

* Contact information for hospitals, doctors and pharmacies
* Quality-of-care reports
* Emergency room wait times
* Suggestions to help keep your medical costs down

Smartphone owners can download the free app from the iTunes and Android app stores or simply access the mobile-friendly iTriage site from any smartphone or computer browser at

Job Seeker & Carer transition group

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

I joined a group today for Job Seekers/Career transitions. I think it will go well. It's a commitment of e/o week for 3 months ( 8-10 people in the group, focus on career direction, brainstorming, etc as well as personalized career coaching one-on-one). Let me know if anyone wants more info on THAT ( or the one for entrepreneurs) if you are in the Twin Cities area.

Two things that I learned today:

Monday, September 27, 2010

First, I visited a friend that is in substance abuse rehab. While there, I got into a discussion with two patients; a doctor, and a lawyer, about the healthcare reform. It was refreshing as we all agreed :)
-During the course of the conversation, I mentioned that I, as of 10/1, will be laid-off from my job and that I was in the process of reinventing myself. One of the gentlemen gave a chuckle and said that he TOO was in the process of reinventing himself. I grinned but it got me thinking.. really, aren't we ALL in the process? Or if we are not in the process of reinventing/improving upon ourselves, perhaps we're just plain stuck!

The second thing I learned today came from my friend's young daughter who accidentally pee'd in the car on the way home. I gathered her dirty clothes and dumped it into the washing machine. I then put everything in the dryer only to later find a small piece of corn in the washer.
Knowing that she'd had that piece of corn from the Otsego Highway 101 marketplace ( kids bouncer, corn maze, potato launcher, etc) I immediately thought, "Oh how cute! she put it in her pocket." THEN when folding the now dry clothes, little treasures kept popping up. I don't have kids! How was I supposed to know that they put things in their pockets! When does that start? Age 1? Age 2? I learned to always check the pockets before washing or drying!
