My weight loss story; what's yours?

Saw this on TERESA159's page and think it's great. Answer "What's your weight story" with these questions on your own blog (you'll get points for it LOL).

1) How old are you?
52 but feel (and think look) much younger. It's just a number!

2) How long have you been overweight, obese, or physically not fit?
A) Overweight -- I have been overweight my whole life (except when I married 22 years ago or got to goal at WW for a few years 8 years ago). Food has been my comfort & my companion.
B) Obese -- Imagine my horror when I realized I was obese according to my BMI, yikes! I didn't consider myself obese
C) Physically not fit -- Never really been physically fit. In fact my goal is to get into great shape rather than to weigh a certain amount.

3) What made you decide to get healthy?
My daughter the actress. I went to a red carpet event with her & felt so uncomfortable, nothing to wear, embarrassed about how I looked. I was tired of making food so important and not wanting to be seen in public or see anyone. Also, I was 11 lbs away from weighing 200 and knew I had to get myself in hand.

4) Has anyone ever made rude/mean comments to you about how you look?
No (not to my face at least).

5) What do/did you hate the most about your current/starting size?
My stomach was so huge I couldn't see my feet! My clothes were very tight and I didn't want to buy 18's (even tho' that's what I needed.)

6) What was your favorite unhealthy food before?
All kinds of crap like Devil Dogs (see one of my earlier blogs), Dorito's, Slim Jims. Too much too often.

7) What's some of your favorite healthy foods now?
Chobani plain Greek yogurt to which I add mixed berries, cinnamon, and wheat germ or granola. Spaghetti squash with roasted broccoli topped with marinara sauce, red pepper flakes, & a little parmigiana cheese. Smoothies (yogurt, juice, fruit, peanut butter). A piece of toasted whole wheat bread with almond butter, banana, and cinnamon.

8) What is the hardest part of this journey?
Not giving up when you're discouraged. Sometimes I do everything right and don't see progress. Sometimes I get lazy and make excuses not to work out. Sometimes I eat too much. Sometimes it feels as though I'll never get there!

9) What does your workout regime consist of?
It changes. Right now I'm in week 4 of the 5K Your Way Rookie Running Program (who would have ever imagined that?) Since the program is 25 - 35 minutes, I do something else beforehand like spin or do the elliptical. I also do Jillian Michaels DVDs a few times a week for strength training.

10) What do you want everyone to know about you?
I won't ever give up. I'm getting stronger and am determined to be in the group that is successful losing & keeping it off! I'm here for my friends & those who need me.

Loving the Summer 5% Challenge!

Today is the 6th day of the Summer 5% Challenge and it's going GREAT! This Challenge is just what I needed. After 6 months on SP I was getting off track a little too often & slacking on the exercise and tracking/staying in food range.

Summer 2011 5% Challenge Team

I highly recommend participating in a team challenge. This has completely gotten me back on track. I committed to exercise at least 30 minutes a day for the 56 days of the Challenge. We get points for exercise, tracking food, & staying within calorie range. Of course this is for us but now we're accountable to and responsible for our team! I want to pull my weight and get as many points for my team as possible. That means making sure I'm in calorie range which is really important to my continued success. That means I think before I stick something in my mouth that I might regret later. That means I go a little further on the treadmill.

This Challenge has completely reinvigorated, refocused, and remotivated me. I've met some great people on my team and started to train for a 5K (SP's 5K Your Way Rookie Training Program.) At a time when I could be slacking, I'm pushing myself instead! The weekly assignments will only continue to make this journey a permanent lifestyle change. 8 weeks is a good amount of time to consistently make healthy choices.

So do a Challenge; you'll be happy you did! I'm looking forward to the next one and would like to step up to being a team leader. Wishing everyone success in this Challenge, no matter what team they're on (though I have to write, GO TEDDYBEARS!)

    This is my third challenge and the extra accountability to the team is a real motivation factor for me. It is so hard to skip a workout when you know the team needs those points to get to the next destination!

    Good blog and I totally agree! This has given me a fresh start that was badly needed. And my hubby's doing it with me, yeah. That man needs to lose a few pounds too.
I am a habitual calorie range cheater and this challenge is really going to keep me on track. Wishing I was on your team but since I'm not.....

Assignment #3 for Summer 5% Challenge

We've been given a different assignment every day in preparation for the start of the Summer 5% Challenge. Assignment #3 is to list all the reasons you want to lose weight. What do you want to change? How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!

My main focus continues to be getting into really great shape. This will include working out hard (I'll be restarting the 5K Your Way Program next Saturday to dovetail with this Challenge since they're both 8 weeks.) I want to look very fit, not at all flabby. I want to have a lot of stamina so I can do many physical tasks with ease. All of this will include losing weight so that the muscles under the fat can be revealed but I'm not concerned with a particular weight. I'll know it when I get there as long as I'm fit (and I know I still have around 15 lbs to go at least.) I want to be strong and slim and healthy. I want my BMI to be in the healthy range.

The other thing I want to change is to find a better way to cope with feeling unsatisfied after eating. This has lead several times to eating way too much causing me to re-gain some weight. I've found many good recipes that I'll be cooking each week and am keeping the fridge stocked with lots of fruits & veggies.

I know that is vital to have a written record to remind yourself of your goals and motives. During the 56 days of this challenge it will keep me going when I need a reminder of why I'm doing this.

This Challenge has come at a perfect time for me. After 6 months on SP, I'm ready for some new challenges and especially, accountability. Having to work with a team is going to be just what I need.

Wishing everyone who is doing this Challenge success in reaching their goals. I'll be blogging along the way & expect a great result at the end of the 8 weeks. Many thanks to THE TURTLEBEAR for inviting me to join the Challenge and also to MOM2PIPER & TERESA159 for sparking me to train for a 5K!

    I'm doing this challenge too and love your attitude about it! It is exciting to try something new and I agree with you that we might not know the our goal weight but we'll sure know it when we see it. I think I've got about 15 to go too. Maybe 12. LOL
I am not redoing my whole page for the challenge but I did redo the goals section. I love your new blue colors! So cool for the summer heat.

6 month Sparkversary and July goals!

6 months ago I joined SP & it's been such an incredible life-changing experience. 40 lbs down is a great indication that SP works. I've reached 14 of my mini goals and have 9 left, including the biggest which is reaching goal & maintaining my healthy lifestyle.

Here are my July goals:

Track my food every day

Cook 5 new recipes a week

Work out 5 to 6 days a week for a total of 2,000 fitness minutes

Add workout DVDs 3 days a week in addition to the gym

Be active in the Summer 5% Challenge (thanks TURTLEBEAR!)

Stayed focused and positive

Looking forward to some great results this month for me and all my SparkFriends. We can do this, one day at a time, together!

Spark Bracelet Revolution challenge!

This has been traveling around and I decided to join in. Some Sparkers have chosen to wear a bracelet for 30 days as a reminder to themselves to keep on sparking and to stay motivated. Every time you look at the bracelet it's a reminder to be good to yourself and stay on track. I got the idea to join in from my friend LINDAKAY228's blog:

I actually was contemplating what kind of bracelet to buy because my friend TERESA159 told me about the charm bracelet she was using to reward herself for reaching mini goals. In April I reached my 1/2way to goal mark and saw a marcasite bracelet when on vacation in NYC. I bought it and now will wear it every day to remind myself of my commitment to a healthy lifestyle. I really like the idea of having a visual reminder. I have a bracelet that my mother gave me that was tight and I will add it when I reach goal (as it won't be tight then!) Always want to keep the healthy lifestyle in my mind, especially to help when I get to the maintenance point.

So, is anyone interested in joining this Challenge and spreading it to others? Hop aboard!!

    I love this idea. I got a Pandora bracelet when I retired this past January. I would love to add some new charms to it. I am joining the challenge tonight and will determine my goals for when I can get a new charm after giving it some careful thought. emoticon

    I gave it a try when PCOH051610 first came up with the idea but found that the only braclet I have right now just itched to much to wear it all the time. I think it is a great idea though and am glad it is working out for so many. Glad you joined in!

    Definitely agree that we each need to pick something that works for us. I like a bracelet but it can be anything. SP is all about individuality!

    Sounds great and the bracelets are pretty, but I have never been one to wear jewlery except pierce earrings when going out. Dealing with livestock growing up jewellery wasn't an option and I have stayed that way. I don't even wear a wedding ring!I need to think of a reward that would wok for me.
