Music blog, day 7

Saturday, June 04, 2011

A lot of my friends have been posting this blog. I wasn’t going to join in because my biggest love music-wise is classical, especially opera, but TERESA159 said it would be interesting if I did it. It would be great if you decided to listen to some of my choices and broadened your horizons.

Here's how it goes. You post a song each day following the criteria for that day. Often I will be posting a choice of music that is not necessarily a song:

day 01 - your favorite song – “Dance of the Knights” from the ballet “Romeo & Juliet” by Prokofiev
day 02 - your least favorite song – The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars.
day 03 - a song that makes you happy – Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves.
day 04 - a song that makes you sad – “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood.
day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone – “Kiss Today Goodbye” from the show A Chorus Line
day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere –

day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event – “Love the Way you Lie” by Rihanna and Eminem. Reminds me of how I used to love my ex-husband before he turned into a sociopath and beat the crap out of me.

Still to come:
day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
day 09 - a song that you can dance to --
day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
day 11 - a song from your favorite band
day 12 - a song from a band you hate
day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
day 15 - a song that describes you –
day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate –
day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio –
day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
day 19 - a song from your favorite album
day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry
day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy
day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad
day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding –
day 24 - a song that you want played at your funeral
day 25 - a song that makes you laugh –
day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
day 29 - a song from your childhood
day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year

My daughter was 13 months old so she doesn't remember that her dad & I were ever together. There's no way I was going to have my DD raised in a horrible environment like that.

Funny you should be posting about a song that reminds you of your ex today. I heard the song just a minute ago that reminds me of my ex who I used to love until he became such a raging alchie that he'd drink a 12 pack and pass out on the couch every night. Ah, memories. They have their place.

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone Kiss Today Goodbye from the show A Chorus Line. When I went to visit my dying grandmother in the hospital she was completely unresponsive. I sang this song to her, which was her favorite, and although she didnt open her eyes, she mouthed the words along with me.

What a great memory! And how cool of you to sing her the song because you knew it would reach her. I very much believe that even when people are dying and they are out of it like that, that we who know and love them can do things to help them relax and go. My dad fought going, so in the hospice I leaned over and told him right in his ear so he'd be sure to hear me that Hey Dad, it's Teresa, we're all here and we all want you to go away from us and go find Mom. She's looking for you, go find her. He did, within the next hour. Otherwise I think people fight to hold on and what for?

I like A Chorus Line. This is not one my mom had the album to but I do know it, good story, good music. Your grandma had good taste.

Completing challenges & accountability

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Yesterday I completed 2 challenges, the Spring into Shape Bootcamp Challenge and the 30 Day Shred DVD. The 1st Challenge I completed in the allotted time, the 2nd I didn't. I actually started the 30 Day Shred, a personal challenge, on April 25 and was supposed to finish on May 24 but I didn't finish until May 28. However, in the 34 days, I did the Shred 36 times because I did 2 levels on 6 separate occasions. I'm very literal so when I skipped a day because I didn't feel well I wasn't sure if I should start over but decided to just keep going and add in a workout. The Spring Challenge stated that you could make up a video if you missed a day so that's what I did with the Shred challenge. Also, this way I was able to end both challenges on the same day.

I have to say that the Shred Challenge was a bit difficult. Unlike my 30 Day Gym Challenge when I went to the gym with a cold, the Shred involved weights and explosive cardio which I could not do when I was sick. Plus I was going to the gym in addition to the 2 challenges.

Here's what I've gotten rid of in the 21 weeks since I joined SP: 38.6 lbs, 3 sizes, 26 1/2 inches! I'm a size 10 again; when I started I could barely fit into size 16! I'm enjoying working out and eating healthy foods. I'm happier and I've gained confidence in my abilities and know that I will be able to continue to my goal and then maintain once I've reached it.

I'm looking forward to my next challenge. I realize that I need to build in a rest day each week on any challenge that I do involving weights. This is all a learning experience. I'm thinking about another Jillian Michaels Challenge that involves 3 of her DVDs and does have a rest day each week. I'm going to continue working out hard. I was inspired by all the contestants on Biggest Loser and plan to be as fit as they are; that's my real goal, my weight goal might change depending on how much I weigh when I'm as fit as I can be.

Set some challenges for yourself! It helps move things along & it's so terrific when you complete them. I'll be there to cheer you on!
