Music blog, day 3

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

A lot of my friends have been posting this blog. I wasn’t going to join in because my biggest love music-wise is classical, especially opera, but TERESA159 said it would be interesting if I did it. It would be great if you decided to listen to some of my choices and broadened your horizons.

Here's how it goes. You post a song each day following the criteria for that day. Often I will be posting a choice of music that is not necessarily a song:

day 01 - your favorite song – from the ballet “Romeo & Juliet” by Prokofiev

day 02 - your least favorite song – The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars.

day 03 - a song that makes you happy – Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. It never fails to make me smile & happy.

Still to come:
day 04 - a song that makes you sad
day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
day 09 - a song that you can dance to --
day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
day 11 - a song from your favorite band
day 12 - a song from a band you hate
day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
day 15 - a song that describes you
day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
day 19 - a song from your favorite album
day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry
day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy
day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad
day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
day 24 - a song that you want played at your funeral
day 25 - a song that makes you laugh
day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
day 29 - a song from your childhood
day 30 - your favorite song at this time last year

NOW.........IT IS YOUR TURN! PLEASE PLAY ALONG FRIENDS!

On the subject of jailhouse songs, let's remember that Johnny Cash wrote Folsum Prison Blues from jail and that's one awesome song.
Melissa- I have been to Romeo and Juliet so have heard the music but of course, I don't really know it. Worth a visit to iTunes for sure. Am so glad you are doing this blog!

Funny how so many jailhouse melodies crash and burn.

Not exactly an inspiring atmosphere to write.

Another "getting to know me" blog

Saturday, May 21, 2011

This is another fun “getting to know me” blog that I borrowed from a wonderful SparkFriend and have to pass along. Please copy and post as your own personal blogs as well if you're so inclined.

1. You are on a deserted island, alone. You can request the musical collections of five artists/groups. Whose music would you request?
** This was extremely difficult to pick:
Prokofiev’s ballet “Romeo and Juliet”, Broadway musical “Sweeney Todd”, operas “La Fanciulla del West,” “Macbeth,” and “Lucia di Lammermoor.”

2. What two books would you request?
** Since I love to read I’d have to pick 2 very big books, “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo and “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett.

3. What figure in history other than Jesus would you choose to spend a day with?
** Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest men and definitely the best President who ever lived.

4. What did you do the night before you woke up in the morning feeling lucky to still be alive?
** I was camping in Alaska with my husband & brother. We had been flown to the middle of nowhere & weren't being picked up until the next day. This was before cell phones so we were on our own. There was a black bear (a small one) that kept coming into our camp all night. I thought I’d be killed.

5. You are alone when suddenly confronted by a deranged person. Your choices are to kill or be killed. Do you kill?
** No question, I’d kill.

6. NOT DISMISSING YOUR LIFE NOW, BUT IN FANTASY, if you were told right now that had you applied your childhood to being great at an Olympic event, you would have won a gold medal and become a national hero and wealthy, would you be willing to make that sacrifice? What event?
** I would make the sacrifice. Probably tennis.

7. If you could become famous, and possibly wealthy, for doing one thing, what do you hope it would be?
** Bringing peace to the Middle East.

8. What individual foods or meal makes your mouth water the most?
** Sushi

9. Skinny, healthy and miserable, or fat and truly happy for the next 20 years. Which would you choose?
** I’d go for happy even if I had to be fat rather than being miserable.

10. Give, or receive?
** I enjoy giving much more than receiving.

11. Favorite day of the year, and why?
** December 21 because it’s the day my DD was born.

12. If you could only watch one television program for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?
** “Lost” because there was so much to it that I’d have lots of time to figure out what everything meant. Also seems appropriate with the deserted island theme.

13. If by snapping your fingers you could eliminate one toxic substance or feeling from the world, what would it be, and why?
** Intolerance. Too many people judge others for their religion, sexual orientation, and beliefs. It would be incredible if we would just live and let live.

14. Are you a front row person, or back row?
** Front row always.

15. You are perfectly healthy and surrounded by loved ones when you are told you will die in exactly 3 hours. How do you spend those 3 hours?
** Listening to music while cuddling with my DD and sharing memories of all the great times we’ve shared.

Please take this quiz and make it your own so that SparkFriends can learn more about you.

Changing the focus

Monday, May 16, 2011

Today starts my 19th week with SP. I realize that my focus has changed. In the past, it's always been about the weight. Have to lose the weight. How much weight did I lose that week. How much more weight do I have to lose. How much I want to lose by a certain date.

This time I'm concentrating on getting fit, getting in shape. I know the weight will come off, that a lot has come off already. Don't get me wrong, I still want to see a lower number on the scale. But more than that I want to see a slim body with defined muscles. The scale has gone up a few times in the past 4 months but I never let it faze me. Because it's so NOT about the number on the scale.

When I joined SP I set my weight loss goal. Now I realize that I might not reach that number. Because it's about getting in shape and that's the important goal. I might be good weighing a little bit more than that magic number I picked, or I might need to weigh a little bit less. I'm not sure yet. But I'll know when I get there. Fit and healthy!

Amen sista! As you know I've had no choice but to make fitness my focus, as the lbs are so stubborn for me. And that's OK! The fat is melting, and the fat is the unhealthy part of the body~ (when there's too much of it)

Funny thing, when I casually speak with thin family members or friends, most of them don't even know what they weigh! Seriously!!

They go by how they fit into their clothes, & if the jeans get a tiny bit snug, they naturally cut back a bit, end of story.

They don't jump up and down and yahoo over every pound lost or get sad if they gain, because they don't even know what they weigh anyhow. I LOVE that!

I have this theory........that we who have become overweight, have lost touch with part of our intuition. Our body knows the truth. I intend to get back to my natural self, and trust my body again. That's my 2 cents. I think I wrote you a blog within your blog LOL!

I couldn't agree more...it is definitely about getting healthy and fit...whatever that "number" is! I think that has been the missing equation in my previous attempts to "lose weight".

Yes, I think that lots of us had the losing weight idea, but the more we are here, the more we realize that it's more than that.

You are doing great and not sweating the small stuff. Good for you!

I like your attitude... fit and healthy are the best solution... who knows how much your body wants to weigh...? It may have been thinner once apone a time, but that is not the same as fit. Lean and mean muscles will give the body a different look and weight... You have been a rockstar...

I didn't even know I had that goal in the back of my head until reading your blog. Since I've found out that my health is a bit helter-skelter, I've focused on that without really realizing it. When I walk now, it's not to see what the scale says the next morning, it's to see how far I can go without feeling the tightness in my chest and knowing I need to slow down a bit. Each time, hopefully, will be a farther distance or faster.

Thank you and I'm glad you got there too!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
