Had my PET scan

Friday, February 21, 2014

Well Thursday morning I had the PET scan done. It wasn't bad and the tech was wonderful. They gave me the disk and said the report will go to the doctor no later than Monday morning. I have an appointment with him on Thursday morning for results and a plan to proceed. If it is only in my neck they plan to do IMRT radiation, If it is found to be elsewhere then the plan will change appropriately.
I've been just overwhelmed with support and offers of help from all my wonderful friends. I am so very fortunate to have such a powerful prayer effort on my behalf. I feel very, very blessed and am ever so grateful!
My Dad went with me for the test. I don't think he was quite sure I'd feel OK afterwards. He is my greatest blessing of all and I don't know what I'd do without him. He's handling this all so well.
By next week this time I'll have a game plan. I'm anxious to get on with it. I've got a lot going on with my church and also Family Promise. We're in the midst of planning an art auction and they've had to carry the ball without me for now. In the meantime I'm busy knitting prayer shawls.
Thank you to all my SP friends for all your thoughts and prayers. Your support means more than you'll ever know. Good night and God bless, my friends!

Results are in!

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Saw the ENT to follow up the surgery. Surgery site looks good and I can talk again. The biopsy of the tongue and salivary gland came back clear. However the gland in my neck was positive for lymphoma. I'm going to need about 4 months of chemotherapy.

Things are moving fast now. I had an appointment with the oncologist scheduled for tomorrow but they are closing the office since we're getting a huge storm tonight. They called me this morning to move my appointment to Friday morning. I also have an appointment Friday afternoon with the GYN. I'm not expecting any problems there but they want a current exam, PAP and mammogram just to be sure there isn't any problem.

Once I see the oncologist I'll have a better idea what the action plan is going to be. I'm very blessed they found it this early and it is treatable. One of my friends was really upset and I ended up comforting her. I told her I was fortunate this happened the way it did. They found the lump and took it out. Now that we know what it is - we treat it! I'm expecting good outcomes and I am powered and protected by the prayers of all my friends. I want to thank all you for your support and prayers. As I know more , I'll keep you posted! God bless!

I just went back to catch up on what has been going on. I am so happy they caught it and removed it. It sounds like the doctors are quite optimistic, too. I'll be thinking of you. Please continue to update!

After surgery

Monday, January 27, 2014

Well I came through the surgery itself with flying colors for which I am extremely grateful! They were wonderful at the hospital. Had to be there at 0630 for processing and prep.
The biopsies will take 5 or 6 days to complete, but the Dr thought things went well. He said the gland or mass looked like a severe inflammatory response and may well be related to the virus that disabled me initially. The lingular tonsil is up in the air yet. May, in fact, turn out to be dog hair!
My neck, jaw and cheek are one large bandaged mass at this point due to swelling. I look like a chipmunk with the mumps! LOL I'm not allowed to talk for 7 days which will be interesting. In reality, right now, I can barely swallow water so talking hasn't been an issue. Tomorrow may be a different story! LOL
I want to thank you all for your support and prayers. I appreciate this more than you'll ever know. The power of prayer is humbling. I feel very blessed and no matter what the outcome of the biopsy I feel strong enough to handle it! Good night, my friends and God bless!

CAT scan results

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Well, I finally got the results of the lung scan. They saw they same two nodules but they apparently aren't dangerous, (Thank you Lord) They will follow me over a period of three years with CAT scans. If there is no change in that period of time they stop. The tech who did my scan told me they see two or three people a day with nodules and the theory is now that they may be environmental. (That fact is both comforting and alarming to me.) The delay in the results was because the radiologist wanted to see the neck scan which had to be released from the other radiology center.
Surgery is Monday. Today I had to have an EKG and a medical release from the cardiologist. I had a stress test in October which was normal but it was too old to be used for the pre-op testing results. That should be the last hoop!
Like most of the rest of the area we had snow yesterday - twelve inches of it! I am hoping it is done until Tuesday. I don't want to have to battle that as well on the way into the hospital Monday morning!
Many, many thanks for all your support, comments and most of all, your prayers! Prayer is the thread that runs through my life and holds it all together. I'll keep you posted and please remember me in your prayers and we'll see what this lump turns out to be. One of my friends thinks it's probably a collection of dog hair from all the dogs I've loved in my lifetime!

Thats great (well kind of) news about the nodule being nothing to be concerned about.

Best of luck on your surgery - sounds like it should be fairly simple.

Before you know it you will be back on your feet and ready to rumble emoticon

Follow up with ENT doctor

Friday, January 10, 2014

Saw the ENT for the lump in my neck. The end result is that it must be removed and will do so on the 27th of this month. He'll do a biopsy as well. I've known this doctor since he was a resident when we both worked at the same hospital. I trust him and his judgement so if he feels it should be biopsied, we will do so!

Monday I am to have the CAT scan of my chest to see if there is anything there. I'll be relieved if all that turns out to be is an artifact.

So if you would please keep me in your prayers I would be very grateful!
