Today turned into a very productive day!

Thursday, April 19, 2012

DH got a call from MIL’s GS about needing some help so he went off and I did all my spring cleaning in one day! I kid you not!

The house is not dirty by any means but……..every room is now spick and span and every cupboard and drawer tidy and decluttered!
The kitchen cupboards have been cleaned and the fridge/freezer and even the dreaded oven! And I’ve made a note of things (dry foods, toiletries and cleaning products) that need replacing which I’ll get tomorrow with the normal weekly shop.
The only thing left to do are the windows (it rained all day so no point!) and some ironing.

AND I got a 10 min sit down before he got back with a well earned cuppa and a bickie.

Just a shame that walk didn’t materialize, but HECK I had a great workout going up and down ladders, cleaning and polishing the house to within an inch of it’s life LOL.

DH thinks I’ve got a screw loose! He said I should have rested but I had so much energy it was unreal.
I shall now collapse in front of the TV and catch up with the soaps. NNSTDLTBBB

I guess with the cleaning of your home marks the end of a stressful,
period of days spent in the hospital keeping your mother in law company and looking out for her welfare. And now it's time to return to your life, and your shiny oven(!!!!!)
Mourning has its twists and turns. We all pass through it in our own way.
The thing that I wish for you, Caz, is the knowing that you were an exceptional, loving, attentive daughter in law. I hope this give you a sense of peace. Above all this is what I wish for you. That you understand just how extraordinary you truly are, and how blessed your Mother in Law was to have you by her side at the end of her life.
Sweet dreams.

  Hi Caz.....
I have found that when there is a situation where I have ZERO control, as with the death of your MIL, when all is over and I am left to myself, I find a situation like cleaning, where I have TOTAL control, and it makes me feel much better. Maybe that was your THERAPY.......
Take care.....

Awww man wish I had the $$ I would fly you to my house.... .lol seems I never have the time or my body hurts after a few mins. to clean. Then we could go for a walk as the sun has been shining here and really nice days. I helped hubby in yard today, well I feel as if I am standing around or just a go fer. but it is still a help. He won't let me lift or dig with the pick ax and rightly so but I want to help. lol

Glad that all is done, and you had time for a rest too. Hope hubby does okay the next few days.
HUGS to you both.

It sounds like it was the right thing for you I am not good at doing nothing. You will hopefully recharge now with a good sleep. Glad Pete was asked to give a hand.

Back to normality........well getting there :)

Thanks to all of you for your support and friendship, messages and goodies.
MIL passed yesterday and already I feel easier. I think it’s because we had a feeling it would not be good news when she was readmitted to West Mid last Thursday and had prepared ourselves. Hope that doesn’t sound callous as she meant a lot to me, just being realistic, she’d had a good life, full of fun and love.

I am sad at her passing but comforted that she didn’t suffer or have to end up in a home or have an army of Carers “invading” her home when she was such an independent soul. I’m also glad she never got to find out her house had been burgled a couple of days ago- there are some NASTY bits of work out there who deserve the stocks at the very least!

Anyway, back to normality now…well getting there, gonna pedal for all I’m worth in a while and get 10k under my belt, then see how the day pans out, might just chill.

Time to move on and DH had offered to help MIL’s grandson with the registering of the death and funeral arrangements but we’re mindful that he may want to do all this himself as part of the healing process.

The love you’ve all shown has touched my heart, thank you

I totally understand how you feel. We were so relieved for Mum when eventually she went as she had lost all her dignity and fight for life being looked after full time by strangers. It's been hard for Dad these few weeks having the personal care. Hopefully he will be able to do more for himself soon. You are definitely not being callous. emoticon

I totally get that. My great Aunt's biggest fear was Altzheimer's , because both my grandmother and her brother had it in the ending years. I had hoped she would escape it, but she didn't. So, I totally understand feeling grateful for the blessing of passing in peace.

You are wonderful, and I am glad things are feeling more back to normal. Very often, as I did with my Mom, I had mourned her passing well before she actually did pass. I know that sounds strange to some, but you have to live it to understand.

Love and hugs!

Not callous at all...it is what it is...and we all get old and we all leave this earth...that is not callous either...just fact. It wouldn't do you or dh or anyone any good to wallow in the doldrums and mil would not want that either.

So glad you are feeling better, Caz...you are a wonderful and very caring friend and a wonderful and caring dil too...xxx

Embrace the sadness and grief - those emotions are the essence of life. Grief and sadness are a measure of how profoundly we felt the relationship, and without those emotions we wouldn't recognize happiness.

She's gone

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

We got a call around 7.15 am to say MIL had deteriorated and to get to the hospital. We were there by 7.50 but she'd gone.

We had a call Monday morning to say she'd suffered a heart attack and stopped breathing did CPR but it took over 4 mins and she was by noon actively dying.
All interventions were removed and they made her confortable just giving her oxygen and medication to ease her breathing and we've been with her as much as is humanly possible since.

She's at peace now and I am glad the end was swift and relatively pain free for this wonderful woman. I shall miss her greatly as will we all in our family.

My thanks to all of you who kept her in your prayers and for kind thoughts and words which have kept me going.
Time to rest now

You and your husband and family have my deepest sympathy. It sounded, from your description of her, that she was feisty and had a good life. Ninety years is a very full life and I am sure that you all have great memories of her. My Dad was 77 when he died and he suffered a lot at the end. You can be very grateful that she did not suffer and that she is now at peace. Time heals and memories keep her alive and with you forever.
Please rest now and take care of each other.

When my Dad was in a hospice, the staff told us that patients "prefer" to die when their relatives are NOT in the room. That is what happened in my Dad's case, though he was very happy that we were visiting him in the last few days. I'm sure your MIL appreciated everything you did for her.

Condoms...

Monday, April 16, 2012

WHY CONDOMS COME IN BOXES OF 3, 6, AND 12 !!!
A man walks into Boots with his 8-year old son.
They happen to walk by the condom display, and the boy asks,"What are these, Dad?

To which the man matter-of-factly replies, "Those are calledCondoms son. Men use them to have safe sex."
"Oh I see," replied the boy pensively.Yes, I've heard of that in health class at school."
He looks over the display and picks up a package of 3 and asks, "Why are there 3 in this package?"

The dad replies, "Those are for high school boys, one For Friday, one for Saturday, and one for Sunday."

"Cool" says the boy. He notices a 6 pack and Asks, "Then who are these for?"
"Those are for college men," the dad answers, TWO For Friday, TWO for Saturday, and TWO for Sunday."
