A conversation in heaven

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

SYLVIA:
Hi! Wanda.

WANDA:
Hi! Sylvia. How'd you die?

SYLVIA:
I froze to death.

WANDA:
How horrible!

SYLVIA:
It wasn't so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?

WANDA:
I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating,
so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.

SYLVIA:
So, what happened?

WANDA:
I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally
I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.

SYLVIA:
Too bad you didn't look in the freezer ---we'd both still be alive.

MIL update and some happier news- mixed emotions

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

We’ve still got DH’s chocolate Easter Bunny and my Cadbury Crème Eggs in the fridge to devour, keep forgetting they’re in there, tonight I will demolish one crème egg, have a feeling I’ll need one.
MIL has been showing anxiety symptoms the last few days, a result of mishearing and misunderstanding things said either to her or around her and getting the wrong impression and then letting her imagination slip away with her. Add to that there is little mental stimulation on the ward and it’s a cocktail for getting worried and upset. DH has the knack of calming her and we’ve had words with the nursing staff about any change in medication affecting her/infections and they’re keeping an eye on her.
They’re spending more time assessing her strength and weaknesses and seeing what she’s capable of before offering assistance and she’s taken this that the staff think she’s lying about her abilities or lack thereof. This too had to be explained to her.
She really does need to get out of the hospital environment(been in 9 weeks Sunday just gone); there is little going on in ward- bar mealtimes -to stimulate the patients who other then MIL get few or no visitors and just sit and stare. Not healthy at all
One lady has been in there 9 months and every time they offer to get her home with carers she refuses the carers so they offer a nursing home which she doesn’t want and when they say they have to move her on she throws a tantrum. Yesterday she was in floods of tears and I tried to console her that they were protecting her interests but she was so upset. It was heart breaking.
My God I hope better facilities are in place for my dotage- but I doubt it.
On a lighter note I get some me time on Saturday, I’m seeing Jackie for dinner and a change in scenery is definitely needed, hoping Friday or Friday week DH will be seeing Bob for a pint down their local, Bob’s presently in Nepal doing some charity consultation work so although he might be back this week he might be somewhat “jetlagged” and unable to make this week.

I managed to get 2 supersets, a core workout and some cardio in so far this week so am pleased with that. Was hoping for a short walk in the park today with DH as the sun’s out but we got a call from MIL asking for us to get there early today so that’s out of the question. Hoping to get some quality time with DH soon.

Thanks all you lovely sparkers for keeping MIL in your prayers and supporting us emotionally...don't think I'd be this sane without you.

Love and hugs to all, hope you're all having a spendiforous week and the sun is shining on you.
Take care of yourselves and each other.....as Jerry Springer used to say emoticon

HUgs and so sad for her, I put above that glad she is in hosp as I was under the impression she had gone to rehab. as I also said above I lost your blog sub. for a few days. Thought you were being very quiet! LOL
HUGS to you all as it is so hard, and hugs to those other souls who need company. I know about that first hand. I still do miss some of my old people but at the nursing home they are all gone but 2.
Take care of you in all this too!

It's such a blessing for your MIL to have both of you around and watching out for her welfare. She probably feels insecure and confused in a situation she doesn't want to be in. Having people she trusts and who love her can make all the difference! May God renew your strength and patience, and give you wisdom as you accompany her through this difficult time in her life.

Glad you're managing to get in at least a little "me" time. These are draining times for you. I hope there's light at the end of the tunnel soon and you get back to some sense of normalcy of your usual life. Poor MIL...I hope she can back to her life soon too. It must all be so confusing for her poor lamb. It's hard when you're a spirited independent person to have your wings clipped. You're in my prayers emoticon emoticon

I managed a 20min walk at lunch time which was lovely. Glad you are still managing your exercise.

If only we could get into someones' mind and see what they are thinking and how they feel about things. With the elderly being so fragile and helpless in their environment it is a daily struggle to stay mentally sane.

Is there something that you can take to her to cheer her up like a family photo album of happy days to keep her mind busy? Does she have any hobbies she could do knitting or painting? I think a little mind stimulation would help and keep her busy other than to worry all the time.
Maybe you can think of something like that.

Hugs and prayers. Sandy

We have a nursing home near us and I see an elderly gentleman pushing an elderly lady (probably his wife) around in a wheelchair a lot of days. That's so sweet and so sad!! Most care homes have days when people come in to lead singalongs and do things for their "Patients". Is there nothing like that for MIL or does she just not want to join in???
Hope you and your DH have some "US" time soon!

Bunny story

JUST FUNNY, NOT ADULT !

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front of the car.

The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit is the Easter Bunny, and he is DEAD . The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry.

A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees a man crying on the side of the road and pulls over.

She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong. "I feel terrible," he explains, "I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny with my car and KILLED HIM."

The blonde says,"Don't worry." She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead Easter Bunny, bends down, and sprays the contents onto him.

The Easter Bunny jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road. Ten feet away he stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again and again, until he hops out of sight.

The man is astonished.

He runs over to the woman and demands,"What is in that can? What did you spray on the Easter Bunny?"

The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label.
It says..
(Are you ready for this?)

(Are you sure?)

(Last chance)

(OK, here it is)

It says,

"Hair Spray Restores life to dead hair, and adds permanent wave."

Happy Easter!!!

THE MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER LOL

Monday, April 09, 2012

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my Husband that my breasts are too small.

Instead of characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.

"If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of
toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds".

Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in
front of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts.

"How long will this take?" I asked.

"They will grow larger over a period of years," my husband replies.

I stopped. "Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between
my breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the Years?"

Without missing a beat he says, "Worked for your bum, didn't it?"

He's still alive, and with a great deal of therapy, he may even walk
again, although he will probably continue to take his meals through a
straw.

Stupid, stupid man.
