All wheels back on track!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

I got lazy and complacent for almost 6 months. A 3-week long vacation, a trip to Vegas a few weeks later, getting a puppy, increased stress and workload at work, etc. all were convenient excuses to eat like sh!t and not exercise.

Anyway, started using SP again for New Years. Had a bit of a health issue which put a 10-day hold on exercising, but that wouldn't stop me from getting my eating habits back into shape. Then I put the bike on the trainer and have been watching episodes of Chuck on my MacBook as I ride. Today I went back to the gym for the first time in 5 months and did some weightlifting. Felt great!!

I can honestly say I'm back to 100% commitment to making myself healthy and fit once again. No more excuses.

Good for you, not letting a setback totally derail you. After I signed up I hurt my foot and was banned from any intense exercise for 5 days.
I focused on my nutrition and discovered yoga, that kept me on track!

Did you ever wonder what it was like to jump out of a perfectly good airplane at over 13,000 feet?

I found out today, and the answer is: there really are no words to explain just how awesome it was. I loved every foot of it.

    Thanks coug!

Gutternuts- No butterflies, believe it or not. I was honestly a little more nervous about being in a prop plane rather than jumping out of it. I had a very surreal feeling as I was approaching the door, but no butterflies at all. It was such a great feeling to fall towards earth at 120mph. You can't imagine how badly gravity wants you back on the ground. 13,000 to 6,000 feet was so quick it was mind boggling.

176 feet PER SECOND. emoticon

Congrats! Keep it up. It will be 3 years for me July 10th. I smoked for 32 years. One of the hardest things I ever did.
And great job on your exercising and healthy life style.

Caught up in the spirit

Sunday, March 15, 2009

I attended the annual St. Baldrick's fundraiser last night with my wife, who had 8 inches of hair taken off to donate. The foundation raises awareness and funds to help cure kids' cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships.

Dozens and dozens of people were getting their heads shaved and I got caught up in the spirit and got my head shaved too. First time in my life. Feels very strange and I think I look strange as well, but I'm glad I did it.

After (with my wife)

It was a fun night! I think the location we were at raised about $25,000.

Let's get right to it- here's what new things I have tried since last post:

An olive - Sorry, olive connoisseurs, I have no idea what type it was. It was big, green, salty as all hell, and still had the pit in it. Yuck-o. 0/5. I was told I probably wouldn't like it and I should just try pitted black olives, but I tried it anyway. I should have listened. I will give a different type of olive a try sometime in the future. BTW, I still like olive oil. This horrific experience did not ruin that.

Goat cheese - I had no idea it was goat cheese until I was told as much a few hours later. Amazing that I actually ate something and had no idea what it was. Taste was OK, a little odd, but OK. 2.5/5

Tangerine - Basically an orange with seeds. Very tasty, but a pain in the ass to eat. Taste - 4/5, eating it - 2/5

Pistachios - I have liked the pudding for years but never tried them before. I love them! Very tasty snack, and very healthy, too. I just have to watch the portion size. 4.5/5

That's it for now. Until next time....
