MISSION: OUT SMART THE GROCERY STORE!!!!

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Today was grocery day!!!!
I sat down and planned out my meals for the week....
Tweaked and re-tweaked my list......
Nothing was allowed on my list that wasn't healthy!
Carefully in my mind I plotted my adventure.....
Aisle by aisle in my head...cause I know my local grocery better than most of their employees!! Come on, you probably do too! Just think about it...
I always use the same route every time I go, cause I have always bought the same ol' items!!!! But not this time!!!
I knew that I would have to treat it different if I was going to buy the healthy items from my new list! So I tried to play by play the shopping out in my mind!! That made it a challenge!!!
I love challenges!! They keep me on my game!
Finally I was ready!!! I felt like I was on a mission!!!
With list in my hand I headed to the store.......
All the way to the store....12 miles away...lots of time to think......
I kept playing it out in my mind over and over again...
I was determined that I wasn't gonna let the store control me with all their sale gimmicks, and strategically placed items that love to tempt their way into my basket...No sir, Not today!!!
I got this!!!!!
(to be continued.....)

Great to know what you are planning when you go into the store. I have my list. I print it from the grocery ads and it tells me by departments which saves me time I have my coupons clipped to my list so I will not forget to use them

Looking forward to the Continued portion of this!

I would like to be adventurous and try new foods; so I saw a Yucca root/Cassava root at the grocery store. Looked like a nice vegetable to add variety. Brought it home, peeled it, cooked it in the microwave.

It was delicious! And different. THEN I looked up the calories at www.ndb.nal.usda.gov (my go-to place for nutritional values).

OMY!!! It was 300 calories per cup! I had eaten the entire two cups for lunch @ 600 calories!

That certainly wrecked my calorie count for the day!

Never, never again will I buy Yucca root. emoticon

Outsmarting the grocery store is for me a regular contest. More than outsmarting the store, though, it becomes outsmarting the marketing efforts of all the mega food companies. You can do it!

I have been making my grocery list for decades now. Grocery stores have come and gone, changed completely as a matter of fact. You can fit two of the old grocery stores into one of today's stores. I walk the whole store except certain aisles: the bulk candy, snacks, bakery. Over the years of lists, I don't even SEE the endcaps anymore. If I see something that catches my eye (it happens) I write it on my list for next time. Sometimes I'll work it into the new menu plan, mostly I just forget it. I know the new aps are in, but give me good old paper and pen.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT MONDAYS?????

Monday, August 19, 2013

What is it about Mondays that seems to bring out the worst in some people?

I had a really bad day at work! Seriously, the kind that makes you wanna scream OMG!!!!!

I came home and the first thing I wanted to do was eat.....
I searched the fridge, the freezer, the cabinets......
then I thought t asked myself.."What are you doing?"
I was headed for a "Bingefest!" for sure....as I always have done.
But there was this tiny little voice in my head that said NO don't do it!
So I opted for a large glass of ice water and 30 minutes of silence!!!

I do believe all this "SPARK-THERAPY" is starting to sink in!!!!
Aren't ya proud of me???
Hugs,
Lacey aka Need2Succeed emoticon

HEY! I KNOW HER.....

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

I saw a woman today that I havent seen in a while.
She smiled at the path she had taken.
I saw a glimmer of love in her eyes...
I patted her on the back and walked away from the mirror!! :))

PLATEAU is an UGLY WORD!!!!

Sunday, November 20, 2011

I have been doing so good, planning my meals, taking healthy lunches to work, wearing the belts out on my treadmill (lol), and yet seem to have hit that wall with dropping pounds....

I know I am making progress because my clothes are getting loose, people are commenting to me that I look like I've lost weight and its getting easier to go farther and faster on my treadmill.....so why isnt it showing on my scale?

It is so disappointing to know you are working so hard to do everything you should and yet just cant seem to bust thru that plateau on the weekly weigh in.

How do you deal with getting past the plateau???? I mean you start to question yourself on everything that you are doing, like is it enough? And how can I do any more than I am?

I believe this is the point where some throw in the towel.....I dont intend to be one of those!

Just looking for ideas to help break thru this wall......anyone?

I hate plateaus too! It sounds like you are doing everything right, and I am sure the scale will start moving down soon.

Other than trying tracking measurements too, you could really take a good hard look at what you are eating. Are you grabbing a handful of something mindlessly and not tracking it? What about drinks? Those are some sneaky calories right there! Or, maybe your nutrient ratios aren't quite right for you. There are lots of things you can try, so don't give up!

HOLLYS_NEW_LIFE 11/21/2011 7:22AM

I've been on a plateau for the last 6 weeks. I don't know what to tell you, except to hang in there. Just keep doing what you're doing it the scale will move eventually!

SWEETNEENI 11/21/2011 6:12AM

If your clothes are loose and people are noticing change, I'd say you aren't in a plateau. The scale lies. A 250 lb bodybuilder will look PLENTY different than a 250 lb Sweetneeni. emoticon

Keep doing what you are doing. emoticon

Oh I can relate.. grrr.. But throwing in the towel is so not a choice!! What will happen if we did that... well we both know lol.

We just keep plugging along, keep logging, making sure we are really being honest with ourselves etc...
We will get there.. just keep at it!!! emoticon

DROWNING ON THE U.S.S. POSEIDON….

Monday, October 31, 2011

I have a recurring dream of being on a cruise ship like the one on the movie about the
Poseidon Adventure…… All of the surviving passengers that are with me are traveling down corridors looking for a way out to a safer level. We come to a long corridor and at the very end of the hall we can see a light thru an opening. As we all run to the opening, the hole appears to be getting smaller and smaller. When we reach the hole in the wall, all the others passengers slide thru the hole with ease, no problem at all. Then it is my turn. I start to feel flush all over because I know there is no way that my large body will fit thru that small hole. I feel so doomed. It is at this point that I usually wake up……

I think that my inner self is sending out warning signals to me as to my demise if I do not wake up and make some adjustments to myself before it is too late. You would think that such a scary dream like that would make me stronger and more motivated to somplete this journey, but I still struggle every day…….

Has anyone else ever had a dream like this?????

Searching for answers…….

Thanks for listening,
Lacey

Dreams are crazy and that you keep having the same one probably does translate into the inner struggle you talk about. This whole *healthy* lifestyle IS a daily struggle. All or nothing mentality does not work for me...I try and go for moderation. Food in moderation
Fitness in moderation
The holiday season makes it even more tough to even stick to moderation but... emoticon
Tracking IS important and eye opening experience.
I'll be here to emoticon you along the way,
give you a emoticonwhen you need one and
of course to swim or row out to get you off that darn ship!

I always dream of being too weak to defend myself from an attacker. I'm either in the dark or everything is very blurry or foggy and my whole body is too weak to run or fight back. When I wake up I feel so awful and it pushes me to try harder during my workouts. When I have those dreams I workout very hard and do well, it seems like when I forget them I don't have a very good week of tracking my food/exercise.

Oh my sweet friend, I know you can do this! I know you can chip away at the fat, right down to the Skinny You!

I don't read too much into my dreams, otherwise I'm sure I would be at the Funny Farm!

Set some goals. Big goals and mini goals. Example: try not to gain during the holidays. (that's a hard one) Then starting in January stay focused and start losing again!

Use the Nutrition tracker! I find that I lose quicker when I'm tracking my food.

Good Luck!
