Screening for cancer: don't underestimate its importance.

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Almost 40 years ago, a routine Pap smear picked up an early cervical cancer. I had treatment and have had no signs of recurrence.

I found out yesterday that an early breast cancer was detected thanks to a screening mammogram. I'll have a biopsy to confirm the specific type of cancer on January 6, then find out what treatment the surgeon advises. I've been reassured that the prognosis is excellent with a cancer this small.

Ladies, don't let fear prevent you from having an excellent chance for survival. I plan on being able to wish you a Merry Christmas for years to come, and want you to be able to do the same.

Merry Christmas!

My mom is a breast cancer survivor for the same reason. She had a lumpectomy with lymph node removal in 1999 and she remains cancer free since 2000. Her cancer was detected by a routine mammogram. She had no symptoms at the time. Three of her eight sisters who waited to be tested after they found a lump have died of breast cancer.

We have traveled the same road. I was 27 when early cervical cancer was diagnosed and successfully treated. At 48 it was uterine cancer diagnosed and treated successfully. Two weeks ago and abnormal mammography at 68. I will have a needle biopsy on the 9th.

Life is good embrace it. Treat yourself with the same love and care that you treat others. That includes having your screenings.

Merry Christmas emoticon

  Exciting and crazy.

You'd have to be weird to try this stuff, but the joy if you could do it. Kinda gives a weird meaning to... all or nothing! emoticon emoticon

Where'd it go?

Friday, June 28, 2013

I've been hunting for the motivation to start tracking again, because I'm sure that's made the difference. But I'm so tired of the routine. I'd love to find something magic but haven't for 60 years. I need a kick in the butt.

Just figured it was time for me to get honest.

I do better without tracking because when I track I always figure hey I can eat some more and without tracking I don't eat unless I am hungry and am losing weight, so what ever works for you do it and if it doesn't work don't do it.

I began by tracking just one meal a day. Once I experienced success with that I moved up to two meals and then every bite. Then I started seeing if I could lower my calorie count by just 100 calories.
