March Update

Monday, April 07, 2014

March started out great. Still using the vapor pen and only smoking 1 - 2 cigarettes a day now. Some days I don't even smoke any. This is working! Also I am already dropping the nicotine level on the vapor from 3.0 to 2.4 and throughout the day I use a liquid that has no nicotine in it, so I have really cut down.

Exercise on the other had has been light since the weather is really messing with my arthritis and MS. We are going from very warm to extremely cool right now. Sometimes a 40 degree drop in one day. This really causes a lot of pain in my hip and legs so I have to only do light exercises.

Today we are really cool and I had to put the heater back on, tomorrow we will be up in the upper 70's possibly in the 80's and the next day in the 90's then we drop again. Looks like April is going to be a repeat of March.

Have a great month all and keep Sparking!

February goals met!

Thursday, February 27, 2014

At the beginning of the month I set a few goals for myself.
1. To break my 4 month plateau
2. To hit 1500 exercise minutes
3. To quit smoking.

Numbers 1 and 2 I met fairly easily. I have started losing little by little again. Maybe only 3/10th of a pound a week but it's still there. I am losing very slowly now. I hit 1500 mins today! (and actually went over and there is still tomorrow.

Number 3 was harder since I have smoked since I was 16 minus a 5 year stop. What was really hard is that I am allergic to the patch and with being on SP didn't want to add the candy or mints or gum. So my middle daughter (who is also quitting) got me a vapor pipe.
And it is working! I now use that almost all the time. I am down to only 2 packs of cigarettes a week and about to tier down to one next week and then none the following week.

Doing this and still losing. I am truly blessed!

Will keep posting to tell how all of this is going.

Thank you to all who answered my last post about the scale. It is just a cheap digital and you cannot adjust the weight figure so I will subtract the extra 3 lbs that it shows.

Again thank you all for the great support.

New Scale

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Bought a new scale recently since the lighted read out on mine stopped working. Got it all set up and went to use it and it weighs heavier than my old one did by 3 lbs. When I went to my doctors he said I had lost the same amount that I had showed I lost. Now I don't know what to do about this situation. Do I continue with the amounts I originally showed and just keep subtracting the 3 lb difference? Or do I adjust my figures and go with the new scale? Any suggestions?

i'd adjust the scale. or move it to a location where you weigh what you should weigh.

Either way you do it would be fine - just so you're consistent. (I would probably just subtract the 3 lbs!)

My son is a hero in our eyes.

Monday, October 14, 2013

My son lives in Fort Worth. This morning between 6 and 7 he was on his way to the gym to workout before going to work he saw the pickup in front of him try to slow because brake lights were on in front of her. Her truck went over the bridge nose first into the Trinity river. He stopped called 911 and went down the embankment to the river. The truck was upside down in the river. Without thought for himself he got in the river and tried to get her door open. He broke out the window with his bare hands and got the woman out and on the bank of the river before the police and first responders got there. The woman was breathing very shallow and was unresponsive to him as he was trying to talk to her. He went back up the embankment to get the police. The FT. Worth police dept. sent him on his way! (without taking a statement or even getting his name!) When he got to work he was in mild shock, soaking wet and bloody from all the cuts on his hands from the window glass. He was taken to the ER and spent 3 hours having all the glass removed. As he was leaving the ER docs did tell him the woman did not make it. She died right after he left the scene.

I asked him if he would do it again knowing the outcome: He said he would do it in a heartbeat to try to save someone no matter what the outcome.

We are very very proud of him and our heartfelt sorrow goes out to the family of this woman.

Wow what a brave thing to do. So surprised the police sent him on his way when they could see he was also injured. Hope he is ok. Sorry for the poor woman.

What your son did was totally awesome! It takes real courage along with a caring and compassionate heart to help someone in that type of need.

You have reason to be proud of him and reason for him to be proud of himself! I bet that woman would like to know your son's name to thank him herself.
Just Amazing!!

Thank you for sharing that. What an incredible story and indeed an incredible man.
I was so sorry to hear that the woman did not survive, but am relieved that your son came through with minimal injuries.

It's often difficult to understand why things happen the way they do, but there must be a message there for your son. He knows himself a little better today and the tough stuff he's made of. And you, you raised him!

God Bless

Definitely a hero! I am sure the family would eventually want to meet him. So sad. Your son may have a hard time processing all this in the days/weeks to come. I wish him peace and pride in knowing he did a very brave thing. emoticon

so sad, but what a wonderful son you have. I hope I don't have to deal with the Fort Worth Police if they ignored your son's hands.

That's an amazing story. You're son was completely a hero without any regard for himself, jumping in to save her. I can't say most people would do that!! Thank him for being such a great example!!! Thank you for sharing!

Incredible, let him know he is a hero in my book as well. Regardless of the outcome he thought of this woman and not himself. True act of selflessness.

Stuck at same weight for several weeks now!!!

Friday, October 04, 2013

Talk about discouraging. I've been stuck at this weight for several weeks. Don't know if it has to do with fronts coming in and all the inflammation I have going on or what! Very discouraging. Plus on top of it, I had to take a steroid today just to be able to move and walk. Hope I can break this rut soon. Still exercising almost everyday though on a positive note.
