Cooky Recipe Number 13: Dream Bars

Saturday, August 25, 2012

I baked these last Sunday. Shortbread crust with almond coconut topping. They were definitely a hit with the model car guys and at my husband's workplace.
Last week, when I met up with my BFF to thank her for watching the cats while we were gone, I gave her a souvenir from DisneyWorld.

Lots of errands today. Looking forward to a 9 mile long run tomorrow with my new Garmin 410.

IPMS 2012 Nationals and DisneyWorld

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

My husband and I flew out to Orlando last Wednesday so that he could participate in the IPMS (International Plastic Modeler's Society) National Convention. People from all over the United States came and brought in their models.
My husband entered two in the contest:

This silver one won a second place in the automotive category.

This won first place in the miscellaneous category.
I'm super proud!!
We did visit Epcot and the Magic Kingdom while we were there. Lots of walking around and eating super expensive food....there's no escape from Disney if you are at one of their resort hotels without your own vehicle.

There was a nice jogging path around our hotel....only 0.95 miles so I had to do many laps to get in my 8.7 mile run (9.33 total with warm up and cool down) on Sunday morning.

Then it was time to fly back home...except our flight was delayed by about 2.5 hours...runway work at SFO.
Back at home, back at was nice to get away.

    Hi Nat,

As an IPMS show judge I am constantly amazed at how many great looking models fail to make the grade due to basic construction errors. You husband's models look amazing. Boy I wish I could see them up close and personal. Your husband picked some difficult subjects. Motorcycles are a nightmare to get right. The snow vehicle looks unbelievable, which is also a difficult subject. Your husband's work looks like the products of a true master modeler.

And I have a good eye!

Congratulation for sticking to your program while I the road. The photos look great. A mile long circuit is pretty short. I hope you were not too bored while running in circles.

I think it is great that you support your husband's hobby. Too bad about the flight delay. Those things happen.

Fudgy Salty Peanut Butter Brownies....Thanks, JASMINELOU

Monday, July 23, 2012

I got this recipe from a friend who got it off the food network website. So tasty.
First you bake the brownie part:

Then you cover it with peanut butter buttercream and some peanuts:

Then you cover it in ganache:

Then it sits in the fridge for 1-2 hours (or for a day like mine..but that makes it very hard to slice).

Grasshopper Pie and A Not Quite 10K Race

Monday, July 16, 2012

My husband's birthday is today and he requested grasshopper pie. I scoured the internet for a recipe and asked my MIL what recipe she used. She couldn't find hers but found something on the internet that seemed close. That's what I made.

It got a thumbs up from my husband, so mission accomplished.
We ran what we thought was going to be our first 10K race yesterday. It was Miles for Migraines and this was the first year they were doing it at Shoreline Park in Mountain View. They also had a 2 mile walk and a 5K race. The 2 mile walk ended up being 2.25 miles, the 5K was correct length and the 10K was about 5.5 miles. I got 5.42 on my Runkeeper...the Polar GPS wouldn't find a satellite. I think they averaged the mileages from everybody who had a GPS to get the 5.5 mile number. My husband came in at about 55 minutes and I was timed at 1:03:33 (but I could swear I saw 1:02 when I hit the finish line). My brother came in third place in the 2-ish mile walk and won a $25 spa gift card...pretty sweet.

After the race, we headed out to brunch. We were pretty darn hungry.
Yesterday was my father in law's birthday so we met with the family for lunner.
Busy day but fun.
Today I took the day off to spend with my husband.
My legs and butt are a little sore from the race but not bad. I've got a sports massage scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

That's a GREAT time (by my standards, anyway!). It's not really unusual for races to be a little off & runkeeper isn't necessarily completely accurate . . . but that's a lot. A good cause, tho.

Love the picture of you and DH! Glad the race went well, even if it was a weird distance. Sounds like a fun day.

Well it would have been nice if they had more accurate tracking, but it sounds like a pretty darn successful day, at least for your part, as well as dh and bro.
The pie looks like something I'd want to stick my whole face into.
Have a wonderful sports massage. Yay for a short week at work!
