Cooky Recipe Number 9: Butterscotch Brownies and I ran a 5K Race

Sunday, June 10, 2012

I just pulled these out of the oven...the recipe says to slice when warm, so I did. They smell fabulous.
I ran my second 5K this morning, the 18th Annual Run and Walk for Lupus. I did this one last year and it was my first race ever. Despite the fact that it was at least 10 degrees warmer today, I manage to take almost 2 minutes off last year's time. I saw 36:10 as I ran by the finish..official results have not been posted yet...it'll take at least a week based on last year.
I was near some kids who kind of snickered at me for stopping to walk (I did 90 seconds run and 30 seconds walk) but I passed them after the first mile and didn't see them again. Snicker all you want kids, the Galloway method does work. I may not be a speed demon but I think I did pretty well. The course was "rolling hills" and it was somewhere in the 80's.
My husband ran as well and my brother and BFF walked. Afterward we headed over to the Country Inn for brunch....all in all a nice morning.

It's not how you got there so much as the fact that you tried and you finished!

WOW, awesome job Nat! I can't believe anyone would snicker...that is very uncool. I ran a 10k almost a year and a half ago and there was one woman who power walked the whole thing--a bunch of us cheered for her as she crossed the finish line. Keep working the galloway method!!

Cooky Recipe Number 8: Jubilee Jumbles

Another cakey drop cookie. Tasty, though. This one had sour cream in the batter. Added a good flavor and texture. Yes, Sheila, there are walnuts in these cookies :-)
The next recipes will be bar cookies.
In other news, I registered for the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half Marathon just a little while ago. Hopefully this year I can actually run it instead of just picking up a very expensive technical t-shirt.

Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Cake for My Brother's birthday

Sunday, May 27, 2012

This is his favorite chocolate cake. This year he asked for chocolate mint icing. I decided to add a surprise and chopped up some Andes Mints and put them between the layers.

Here it is frosted.

I got some fun candles to put on top.

It was an excellent cake. Moist and chocolatey...just the way it should be.

Cooky Recipe Number 7: Molasses Jumbles (Spiced)

Saturday, May 19, 2012

Since we've got friends and my brother coming over today, I baked the next recipe in the Betty Crocker Cooky Book, Molasses Jumbles. I made the spiced variation that calls for ginger, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. These smelled fab. I haven't tried one yet.....no, not even the dough. These cookies are even vegan...no eggs or butter.

We're going to walk over to Johnny Garlic's for lunch. It's looking like a beautiful day and we'll burn a few calories.
Happy Saturday!!

What about the dough? Did you try some of it? Oatmeal cookie dough is my favorite.

Since you are a cookie baking expert, maybe you could help me.
There is a lady at church who does not share her recipes. She makes the most amazing bar cookie I have ever had. It has a shortbread layer, then a chocolate layer (almost like melted chocolate chips or Hershey bar) then another shortbread layer on top. She calls them candy bar cookies. I've searched the internet & can't find a recipe that is anything like it. Do you have any ideas of where I could find a recipe?
I may just have to start expeirimenting & come up with my own. This lady is moving to KY in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping she'll makes these one more time before she's gone!

Those look excellent. I think oatmeal cookies with raisins and chocolate chips are my favorite. I made some ginger molasses last weekend and have done a pretty good job eating one a day. Maybe theres hope for me:-)

Whenever I see a blog of yours, I prepare my taste buds before I open the blog and make sure that they know that this is just going to be a
picture of yummy stuff. NOT a suggestion
to run out and get some.

My favorite cookies. My husband's oatmeal cookies are in demand for every potluck we go to. He uses the recipe from the Quaker Oats box, but substitutes homemade apple sauce for half of the oil in the recipe. Yours look yummy too.
