Low Key Saturday

Saturday, October 08, 2011

I got an another couple of 13+ mile rides on the bike on Thursday and Friday. Today is a rest day since it's a fasting day. No, I don't actually go to temple but it's just been so ingrained that I do the fast anyway. Not quite sure why. Partially because we are invited to my aunt and uncle's house to break the fast. Not much of a breakfast if you've already eaten.
I tried to sleep in but only made it to 6:45. Too many hours awake and hungry. Boo. I guess I'll go down and torture myself with some food network.
I did bake some cranberry walnut flax brownies to take for dessert. I didn't even take a taste of the batter...that's a lot of restraint for me.

Have a great Saturday :-)

Spirituality isn't confined to shul or religion etc, Congrats on the resistance. I think that's one of the things that Yom Kippur offers, it kind of lets us show ourselves to ourselves (not just the fasting headache) and sometimes we are quite a nice feeling when a strength shows up!

a flu-like bug showed up for me --- bleh, but I'm recovering well

i just got in from a long ride. took lots of breaks along the way. 24 miles in 135 minutes of actual moving time. i was gone for 4 hours. it was fun. probably the most excitement i will have today.

have a fun rest of the weekend!

Those brownies look incredibly yummy. I've finally been able to get canned pumpkin at the commissary, so on Tuesday, I'm making that pumpkin coconut bread I've been wanting to try. Just in time for DH's return the following day!

As the weather gets gloomier, I'm feeling better

Thursday, October 06, 2011

Thank you everybody who gave me support on my happy/sad blog. I'm feeling much better now. I am still super proud of my husband and will definitely be cheering him and JLITT on in Las Vegas in December. I do hope to be out of the boot and walking in normal shoes by then.
My cold has turned into the "a little cough here and there" phase so hopefully it will be gone soon.
We've been having rain here and it's nice for a change. We could certainly use the water. It is supposed to heat up over the weekend but only time will tell if this will actually occur.
I have a little lull between samples so I thought I'd check in and let you all know I'm good.
I hope your Thursday is going well. We're almost at the weekend and that's always a happy thought.

Glad to hear that you're doing better. In the grand scheme of things, your time in bootland is just a drop in the sea! You'll have fun cheering your hubby on and getting a taste of the awesome race environment (which is always great fun), and you'll be looking forward, more than ever, to when you'll be at that starting line again yourself!

Let's see, yes, I did wear the new jeans to my parents. My mom liked them, but quite frankly her taste is questionable. They really are a little too tight, which is not surprising considering the number on the scale at the moment.

I won't be taking the teal dress to Vegas . . . Would take up half the suitcase! But I might be able to squeeze in a skirt or a different dress . . ,

Weekend Recap

Sunday, October 02, 2011

Friday night we went to the Asian buffet for dinner before heading over to Trader Joe's to do our grocery shopping.

Saturday I got up early to get in a 13.32 mile bike ride before showering and baking some brownies with cherries for Grandma.

Then we headed over to pick up our race packets. That was actually pretty depressing but I do have a nice new technical tee shirt and some sports beans.
Later we went to the Middle Eastern and Greek Food Festival:

I sliced the brownies when we got home and then it was time to have dinner with Grandma. Originally we were going to go to a steakhouse but we ended up at a Middle Eastern restaurant. Needless to say, I did not have falafel again. I got some spaghetti with chicken...pretty good but I didn't get a picture.
This morning I got up early again and did 13.33 miles on the bike. Not as satisfying as running a HM, I'm sure. My brother, my husband and I headed over to the race. It was a zoo. There were so many people there, that my brother and I couldn't get to the start line to watch but I had set up to get text messages for my husband's location. They texted when he crossed the start, at 5K, at 10K at 10 miles and at the finish.
We had some coffee at a nearby diner and then walked around a bit and listened to the music. Some people finished in under an hour...I am totally astounded. We headed over to the finish line area at about 90 minutes. I saw one person wearing a boot on one of those kneeling scooter things. Hmmmm...not something I'd do. We did manage to spot my husband as he neared the finish line

He finished in 2:26:45. Something to be quite proud of, I think
That happiness has now worn off and I'm feeling pretty low. I know there will be other races but right now it doesn't feel like it.
Not really the way to end a weekend.

Busy Weekend Ahead

Friday, September 30, 2011

I got in a good 11.8 mile bike ride yesterday and did some leg lifts for lower body ST.
It was a long day at work.
I'm definitely glad it's Friday. Lots of stuff to do because the weekend is packed. Today I've got some upper body ST, groceries, laundry and cleaning on tap.
Saturday I'll be biking, baking brownies for Grandma's birthday later in the evening, picking up the race packets, going to a Greek festival for lunch.
Sunday it's the HM for my husband and I'll be biking one in the morning before.
I don't know if I'll have time to check in until Sunday afternoon.
Have a happy Friday and a wonderful weekend!!

Not a food blog for a change

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Foot update in case anybody is wondering: it's a little sore on and off. Sort of seems like it's been more so since I've been wearing the boot. Don't know what that's all about.
I have decided that I will bike 5 days/week (Sun, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat). That way my butt gets a couple of days to rest. I got in 11.66 miles yesterday followed by my push ups. I'm doing the hundred push ups challenge and yesterday was the start of week 3. I did 14, 18, 14, 14, 20. Pretty respectable.
Yes, I have been eating but I have no pictures to share at this time. It's the usual stuff.
I am glad it's Wednesday but I do wish it was the weekend although it will be a very busy one. We have to pickup the race packets, do dinner with Grandma for her 95th birthday, and then the HM is on Sunday.
Happy Wednesday and for those of you who celebrate L'Shana Tova.
