Yesterday I got in a 3.25 mile run followed by CLX Push 2.

Push Circuit 2 (went lighter...back a little sore)
Standard Overhead Press - W 12.5 R 6
Single-Leg Lunge - W 20 R 8
Standing Reverse Fly - W 7.5 R 8
Standing Arnold Press - W 10 R 8
Single-Leg Dead Lifts - W 15 R 8
Bent-Over Lat Raise - W 12.5 R 6
Frontal Shoulder Press - W 10 R 6 (could feel it in my back so I stopped)
Single-Leg Tap Lunges - W 20 R 8
Lateral Delt Raise - W 7.5 R 8
The rest of the day was filled with laundry and groceries.
Today was a yoga day. I needed that for my hamstrings and glutes!!
Afterward, I baked some cayenne brownies for a friend of mine. We're celebrating her birthday tomorrow at the Indian buffet emoticon. I will try to be good and just get one plate. It's a good thing I have an 8 mile long run scheduled for tomorrow morning emoticon
Here's a pic of the brownies...I'll put them in a nice box tomorrow but I'm keeping them moist in a bag right now.

Then my husband decided he would like to plant something in the backyard so we headed over to the nursery. We ended up with a Fuji apple tree:

We're heading out soon to check out some used cars...just to look, no buying and then maybe some Peruvian food.

    Great workout and yummy looking brownies! Was this the blog you lost the first time you did it? Frustrating, right?! And why does it always happen when there are pictures involved... sigh!     Yum brownies, your cooking always looks so pretty! I forgot to tell you about my mentor teacher almost crying when I gave her the homemade cookies. She loved them...

I think you can afford to be a little out there when you eat what with 8 miles runs you probably need a little more then the rest of us do!

    Sounds like an awesome weekend. I love the picture of the brownies that is the closet I will get to any for the next few weeks, giving up chips and sweets. DH has a family day at work, at a water park of course and I need to look ok in my swimsuit. So I will stay away from the sweets for a while. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    sounds like a fun weekend, especially the food part! cant complain about an apple tree either. my goats ate all of my fruit trees the summer before last, so i had to start over. i tried to transplant the old ones to a goat free area, we will see if anything becomes of them!

you will have to post your brownie recipe. they look de-lish!

Back From San Francisco!

We had a great time. We ran yesterday morning and then walked many miles around the city. I got over 30,000 steps!!

Magic Mile #1

This morning we hit the track so we could do our Magic Miles. For those of you who are not doing a Jeff Galloway training, the Magic Mile is a one mile time trial. You run about as hard as you can go for one mile (with or without walk breaks as you see fit) and there is not puking allowed.
The track was really crowded today, so I'm glad I had my GPS's going (HRM and Runkeeper). I had to keep going around people while doing mine so I ended up doing 1.1 miles instead of just 1. It took me 10:56 for 1.1 miles but my one mile time was a pretty respectable 9:56. Not too bad. I even took walk breaks. I may have been able to go a little faster if it hadn't been so crowded but at least I've got something to start with.
We had warmed up with a lap around the track and then took another lap after the mile. We did the remaining 3 miles that were on the schedule for today and finished with another lap around the track. We did change directions halfway through so we would always be going counter clockwise. The change meant we had to run along the outer edge so we did go farther than we should have. All told, we did 5.1 miles today.
Based on the 9:56 magic mile, I could then determine what the long run time and run/walk ratios should be. I had been using an 11:30 mile as a guess before. To get the pace for the long runs you take the magic mile time and multiply it by 1.2 (which is the slow down for a half marathon length run from the magic mile) and then add 2 minutes. We'll be doing some 14 minute miles for our next long run using a 30 second run/30 second walk ratio (from his website).
We tried to go for sushi for lunch but none of the places were open for lunch today. We had Chinese instead. Sorry, I forgot to get pictures.
For dinner, we met up with my in-laws for Mediterranean. I had falafel again. Yes, a creature of habit.
It was a very nice weekend. Even better knowing I'm off next week.

FYI, if you use Runkeeper to do the 30/30 splits for you, you will never get your five minute status reports as the interval beeps override it. That's why I do 40/30, it only overrides it a few times.

Mocha Pineapple Upside Down Cakes

Friday morning I did some Jari Love Ripped Slim & Lean. I only used 5 pound weights but that's okay because you do many, many, many reps. Next week it's back to CLX.
I did not figure out what was up with the HPLC. It'll have to wait until the 25th because I'm taking a staycation next week.
This morning I did some yoga. I tried out two new DVDs. The first one, Yoga for Athletes, allows you to customize your routine by selecting the sport you do. I chose running and did the 30 minute basic program. It was okay. A little too new agey for me (or too much like real yoga, I suppose). I'm not into the spiritual aspect, I just want a good stretch.
The second one, Christine Felstead's Yoga for Runners: The Essentials, I liked much better. It was about 50 minutes and covered foundation ( basic breathing and standing poses), lower back stretches, hamstring stretches, and hip openers. She had been a runner before she started teaching yoga. I liked it much better. It seemed more appropriate and wasn't too yoga-y.
Today is my husband's birthday. We went to a friend's house and help them move. Don't worry, I only moved dining room chairs not the couch.
He requested mocha pineapple upside down cake:

We'll be heading over to House of Falafel with my brother for dinner.

    emoticon I want some! Sounds like a good day - and a good week coming up. I'm with you about yoga in general. I really need/want stretching, but I get soooooo antsy doing yoga, I think it's counterproductive for me. My gym offers a great stretching class once a week and I try to make it, but it is at an inconvenient time. I am doing better with stretching overall though, so I guess progress is progress. Have a great Sunday!

    I like yoga for runners better too, but I do use them both - I don't really find the yoga for athletes new age-y, but then again I like that aspect of yoga, too. I like Cheristine's second DVD, too, but it isn't as easy to just go to one section as it is with her first & I really like that option.

    sounds like a fun plan, to have a staycation. that is pretty much what we have planned too. and to make it really interesting, the only grocery shopping for the next week can be for milk and dog food. we have to live on what is in the house! trust me, the meals are gonna be REALLY intereting!
