Mocha Pineapple Upside Down Cakes

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Friday morning I did some Jari Love Ripped Slim & Lean. I only used 5 pound weights but that's okay because you do many, many, many reps. Next week it's back to CLX.
I did not figure out what was up with the HPLC. It'll have to wait until the 25th because I'm taking a staycation next week.
This morning I did some yoga. I tried out two new DVDs. The first one, Yoga for Athletes, allows you to customize your routine by selecting the sport you do. I chose running and did the 30 minute basic program. It was okay. A little too new agey for me (or too much like real yoga, I suppose). I'm not into the spiritual aspect, I just want a good stretch.
The second one, Christine Felstead's Yoga for Runners: The Essentials, I liked much better. It was about 50 minutes and covered foundation ( basic breathing and standing poses), lower back stretches, hamstring stretches, and hip openers. She had been a runner before she started teaching yoga. I liked it much better. It seemed more appropriate and wasn't too yoga-y.
Today is my husband's birthday. We went to a friend's house and help them move. Don't worry, I only moved dining room chairs not the couch.
He requested mocha pineapple upside down cake:

We'll be heading over to House of Falafel with my brother for dinner.
A nice day :-)
Have a good rest of the weekend.

emoticon I want some! Sounds like a good day - and a good week coming up. I'm with you about yoga in general. I really need/want stretching, but I get soooooo antsy doing yoga, I think it's counterproductive for me. My gym offers a great stretching class once a week and I try to make it, but it is at an inconvenient time. I am doing better with stretching overall though, so I guess progress is progress. Have a great Sunday!

I like yoga for runners better too, but I do use them both - I don't really find the yoga for athletes new age-y, but then again I like that aspect of yoga, too. I like Cheristine's second DVD, too, but it isn't as easy to just go to one section as it is with her first & I really like that option.

you will have to post the recipe for the cakes. they look delish!
Happy Birthday to your Hubby! and have a fun rest of the weekend.

Yay for Thursday!

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Wednesday morning I slept in because I was really tired.
Lots of little things going on at work followed by a chiropractor appointment.
When I got home, I decided to try out The Butt Bible on demand. The instructor is amusing and it was a good workout. I did Upper 1 and Lower 1. Nothing seemed to bother my back although it was a little sore on and off all day.
Today I got up early and did my run...3 miles. Seems to be pretty standard for me on a weekday. It felt good.
Kind of frustrating at work. Something weird is going on with the old HPLC. I think the needle may be clogged. I'll have to check it out in the morning.
I'm definitely looking forward to Friday.
Happy Thursday!! Have a rockin' Friday!!

No Circus Peanuts for Me

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

My calves were still sore this morning so I decided to postpone my run until the afternoon.
The VA store did not have any circus peanuts. I left a voicemail for my husband but he doesn't check it very often, so I didn't get any today. He did say he would bring me some tomorrow, though.
I scheduled the Move team to move our giant boxes into the lab tomorrow morning. Now we are just waiting for the table to arrive and to find out when somebody is going to come and install the mass spec. Soon, I hope. My boss is getting very antsy.
My back was still a little sore on and off today but I couldn't determine what was bothering it. It seemed very random, so I decided to run. 3 miles...pretty respectable. My back and my calves feel less sore now so maybe they wanted to run.
I guess I'll decide in the morning if I'll try a little light strength training.
We had some Trader Joe's Indian food for dinner: channa masala, lentils, dosas. It was the first time we tried the dosas and I give them a thumbs up.

Have a good night, all.

Mass Spec Monday

Monday, July 11, 2011

I decided that since my back was a tiny bit sore, that I would not do any strength training today. Maybe on Wednesday.
Some giant boxes on pallets arrived at the lab today. Unfortunately the delivery guy couldn't get them into the lab so they are sitting in the hallway. I hope they get installed soon or we're going to be in trouble for blocking the hallway.
I made the Turkey and Cabbage Slow Cooker dish for dinner tonight. When I was growing up my mom had a recipe that she cut out of The LA Times called Low Calorie Hot Dish. It was basically deconstructed stuffed cabbage: ground beef, onions, rice, cabbage, tomato sauce all mixed together and baked. I decided to try it with ground turkey breast and use brown rice. I also subbed some pasta sauce and added garlic.

If anybody would like to try making it, here's the recipe:

It was a success. Tasty and reminded me of my mom. Thought thinking about her is making me want some circus peanuts. Sometimes I would wake up and go into the kitchen and my mom would be eating them. Kind of a weird candy but it has special memories for me. Maybe I'll pick up a package at the VA retail store tomorrow if they have any in stock. I miss you mom.
Hey, we made it through Monday. We can do this week!!

this weekend, i made peas and potatoes with onions, milk and butter, plus a touch of salt and pepper. it is one of my Grandmas old favorite dishes. i think our families would be pleased to know that we think of them with the comforting foods they made for us.
