A Beautiful Day for a Long Run

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Let me backtrack to yesterday. My back was still a little bit sore so I decided to rest it. We did the grocery shopping and some laundry.
For lunch we decided to try out a place that we have driven by a million times but had never gone to, The 5 Spot. One would think from the name that it was a diner and it looks like one on the outside but it turns out that it's a taqueria. It's actual name is The Chivas Grill. They just kept the old 5 Spot sign outside as well which I think is really neat.
I went for the carnitas...super tasty, not greasy. The beans were also not greasy. Definitely a place to go back to.

We ended up at Sweet Tomatoes for dinner because we wanted some veggies...sorry no pictures of my salad or soup.
The weather was cool this morning 50's and 60's. This morning my back was a little sore but I thought I'd give it a go for the long run. Today's run was scheduled to be 6.5 miles. We ended up going 7.2 miles including warm up and cool down. My back felt great while I was running. A little sore afterward but since it was a little sore before, I figure it was good. I wore my neutral shoes. The feet and knees felt good. A very good run...I even burned 593 calories according to my heart rate monitor.
For lunch today we tried to go to Banana Leaf which is a Thai place, but it isn't open on Sunday. My husband was craving Thai so we went to another place (who's name I can't remember). Yellow curry chicken, chicken pad kee mao, we asked for brown rice but ended up with white, chicken satay (but not on skewers). It was tasty but not very spicy. I had to add a ton on chili sauce. Definitely not as greasy as some places, so we may return.

I mixed up some stuff for dinner in the slow cooker tomorrow. Picture and recipe will be in tomorrow's blog.....I do have to keep my audience coming back emoticon
Have a great night and a great week!!

Mmm the foods look great! Especially the carnitas!

How long does it take you to do 6.5 miles? The 80 minutes on the treadmill that I did was because I wanted to see how long it took me to run 6 miles, and I was DONE after the 80 minutes LOL

Glad you had a nice run!!

So, pardon the ignorance but what is a taqueria?
Awesome burn on your run. How long did the 7 miles take? I am happy that I got my 330 burn in from an "easy" 30 minutes on the elliptical yesterday. But hey- I made it to the gym!

Ouch! Damn Back!

Friday, July 08, 2011

I forgot to reset my alarm to 2:30, so I didn't up until 3:30 this morning. No time to do CLX before work.
The guys came and removed the counter and cabinets that we needed to get rid of. The mass spec (all 7 boxes of stuff) arrived at the VA just before I left for the day. I only got one of the boxes but they promised the rest on Monday or Tuesday. It's just as well. The new table has not arrived (due 7/12) and we still don't have a 208v outlet installed.
I came home and did my CLX
7/8/11
Push Circuit 3
Sumo Squat - W 25 R 8 (will try 30 pounds next time)
Single-Arm Row - W 22.5 R 7
Chest Fly - W 12.5 R 8
Bowler Lunge - W 25 R 6
Double-Arm Bent-Over Row - W 22.5 R 6
Bench Press - W 15 R 8
Single-Leg Sumo Squat - W 22.5 R 7
Reverse-Grip Bent-Over Row - W 22.5 R 6
Long-Arm Pullover - W 17.5 R 6

I don't know what I did but now my lower back is a little sore emoticon I did take an ibuprofen and I am going to ice it in a few minutes. I hope it's okay for my run on Sunday.

We went out for Ethiopian food for dinner. We got the meat and veggie samplers. They put it all on one plate: chicken, beef, yellow split peas, collard greens, potatoes & carrots, red lentils and the bread (injera). Very tasty. Yes, it was a large plate but it was split between the two of us and my husband ate about twice as much as I did.

I'm off to ice. Have a great night and a wonderful weekend!!

Thursday Turned Out To Be A Good Day

Thursday, July 07, 2011

I really, really, really did not want to get up this morning. The alarm went off a 2:30 and I got up and reset it to 3:30. But I was awake so I got up. Our clock has 2 alarms. I set mine to music and keep the volume low so it doesn't wake up my husband. His is set for 7am but it's the buzzer.
I got 3 miles in on the trusty treadmill and it felt good. I wore my neutral shoes (Nike Air Pegasus) and my shins and calves felt great. My calves are really tight, though. Running? Rockband drums? Strength training? My stability shoes? I rolled them this evening.
Lots of good things happened at work. I got the liquid nitrogen cylinder, a gas nitrogen tank and a regulator ordered for arrival next week when the mass spec should arrive. They installed tank restraints so nothing goes rolling around the lab. The carpenters came to look at the cabinets we need removed and said they would be able to do it tomorrow when they had their equipment with them. Now we just need a 208v outlet installed and we are golden :-)
For some reason I was craving eggs and happened to have some hard boiled ones in the fridge. I made egg salad: 1 whole egg and 3 whites with 1 tbsp Kraft olive oil mayo on an Ezekial english muffin. I'm not big on mayo but you do need something to bind it all together. Also had some raspberries and blackberries...yum! Sorry, I forgot to get a pic.
I am definitely looking forward to Friday and the weekend.
Have a good one!

Hey, It's Wednesday Already!

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

Tuesday was a very busy day. I got up dutifully and ran 3.1 miles. Lots of stuff going on at work. Then it was off to have dinner with my best friend. We ended up having Thai. Yummy...but evil!!

After dinner we went to the mall for some coffee, looked at shoes at Nordstrom and hung out in Sephora for a while. A very nice evening. The only problem being that I didn't get to bed until almost 11pm.
I most definitely did not get up this morning to do my CLX. I did that between work and the chiropractor.
7/6/11
Push Circuit 2
Standard Overhead Press - W 12.5 R 7
Single-Leg Lunge - W 25 R 8 (will try 27.5 pounds next time)
Standing Reverse Fly - W 10 R 8 (barely)
Standing Arnold Press - W 12.5 R 6
Single-Leg Dead Lifts - W 17.5 R 8
Bent-Over Lat Raise - W 12.5 R 6
Frontal Shoulder Press - W 10 R 8 (barely)
Single-Leg Tap Lunges - W 20 R 8
Lateral Delt Raise - W 10 R 8
My shoulders are going to be sore tomorrow...guaranteed.
Dinner tonight was salmon, green beans and some Kettle Tias! salsa flavor with Trader Joe's fat free bean dip. Super tasty and relatively healthy.

Going to head to bed soon so I can run in the morning. It's been in the 90's and the treadmill is upstairs. Even with the A/C on it's warm.
Have a good night.

A Very Nice Holiday

Monday, July 04, 2011

Since I had plenty of time to exercise this morning, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical before getting my CLX workout.
7/4/11
Push Circuit 1
Standard Bicep Curl - W 12.5 R 8 (will try 15 pounds next time)
Standard Squat - W 25 R 8 (will try 27.5 pounds next time)
Single-Arm Bent-Over Tricep Extension - W 12.5 R 6
V-Press Biceps - W 10 R 6
Single-Leg Squat - W 22.5 R 8 (will try 25 pounds next time)
Overhead Tricep Extension - W 20 R 6
Hammer Biceps - W 12.5 R 7
Heel Squat - W 22.5 R 8 (barely)
Push-ups - 8 on toes
Then it was time to start baking some cookies for our holiday treat. I made Pistachio chocolate chip cookies. I posted the recipe in Spark. It's basically the standard toll house cookie recipe with the addition of a package of pudding powder. You can add any flavor you like. I tried out pistachio pudding today. I also added some extra pistachio flavor instead of vanilla.

My brother came over and we made turkey burgers, grilled zucchini and Trader Joes' cuban black beans. I added a slice of pepper jack to mine. I'm glad we have the Griddler because it got pretty toasty outside....95 the last time I checked.

Afterward we played some Aerosmith Rockband. I'm the drummer so I worked up quite a sweat. Maybe I should have worn my heart rate monitor so I could put it in as exercise :-)
Oh well, back to work tomorrow. Luckily there are no inspections this week.
Have a great rest of the day. Happy 4th!!

Sounds like a great day for you today! Good job on the workouts. I too had turkey burgers for dinner, but with corn and baked beans.

Wow, pistachio sounds like a great idea!! The cookies look amazing. It was very hot here, too, so I understand not wanting to grill outside. At 9 am it was already nearing 80 here. I am glad you had a good 4th! emoticon

Great workout - Rockband included!! That's why I like by BodyMedia...it tells me how many calories I burn for everything I do all day. The cookies & dinner look delicious. Enjoy the rest of your day.
