I woke up this morning to the fabulous smell of beans cooking in the slow cooker. I had put them on low at about 8pm yesterday and checked on them at 6am today. Still hard. I turned it to high knowing we'd have another 6 hours before anybody would be eating them. All good.
After feeding the cats and Sparking for a little while, I did my workout. CLX Burn Circuit 1 and Recharge (yoga).
Burn Circuit 1

Sumo Squat with Hip Lift - W 10 R 12 (I'll try 12.5 or 15 next time)
Lunge with Posterior Fly - - W 7.5 R 12
Push Up with Leg Lift - 12 (on toes)
Dead Lift with Posterior Fly - - W 7.5 R 12
Lunge with Core Rotation - - W 12.5 R 12 (I'll try 15 next time)
Bench Press and Leg Lower - - W 10 R 12 (I did 10leg lowers but started to feel it in my lower back)
Squat with Side Bend - - W 12.5 R 12 (I'll try 15 next time)
Forward Lean Lunge with DBL Arm Posterior Fly - - W 7.5 R 12 (6 each leg)
Chest Fly with Hip Lift - - W 10 R 12
It was nice to do some yoga. It's about 20 minutes but really hits all of the major areas.
I had planned to start on the potato salad after I got out of the shower. My husband offered to slice the potatoes in the food processor while I took my shower. emoticon
After I finished showering and got dressed I heard cursing from the kitchen emoticon
Apparently there was a clog in the sink. My husband went over to Home Depot to get a snake and managed to get it cleared emoticon He also decided to replace one of the seals on the garbage disposal so he wouldn't have to open it all back up again.
While all this was going on, I boiled the potatoes and made the dressing. To my dismay, he had sliced nearly 5 pounds of potatoes. There were only 3 of us partaking in the meal emoticon Needless to say, we've got a lot of leftover potato salad.
Since tomorrow will be model car building night at Andy's, I baked some cookies. Oatmeal with raisins and walnuts.

The cookies were not a Spark recipe. They were from The Better Homes and Gardens Biggest Book of Cookies.
We had turkey burgers and the guys also had chicken sausages but I forgot to get pictures.
All in all a nice day.

    So funny! After 10 pounds of potatoes being peeled by my husband for Christmas mashed potatoes one year, I learned I have to sit out the exact # of potatoes I want peeled or they all go. :) Need to check out that bean recipe, doing beans (and a whole lot more in a couple weeks.) Cookie Marathon is going well, I'll blog later. Hope you are feeling better and had a good run.

    Yummy Goodness Nat! i will have to go check out that tater salad recipe as i have a bag that is going to waste right now. guess i could boil them up and freeze some mashed potatoes, or slice for fries and feeze. gotta do something because i hate wasting food!

Glad you had a GREAT weekend. Hope you enjoyed that ride "WE" did. 11.5 miles lots of little hills this time, but 95 degrees! trust me, we had fun... emoticon

Sunny Sunday

I got up this morning and it was very cloudy. It rained a lot yesterday so I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get out and do a run today. Luckily, it cleared up.
Since the community college is closed and there are no other open tracks near us, we found a trail at a park about 2 miles away from the house.
I tried out the new GPS unit for the polar watch. We started walking to warm up and it finally found a signal. I also wanted to try the GPS function on the Galloway Ultimate 5K app. It had an issue and I ended up downloading it again. Finally got it going and our run going. I hadn't thought about how many hills we would be encountering. Not giant, by any means but when you're used to running on the treadmill it can be quite the challenge. The workout was supposed to be 2.8 miles but with the extra walking to warm up and the fact that we didn't turn around halfway through, we ended up at 4 miles for the day. Not too shabby. We plan to go back there next Sunday (or Saturday) for our next long run. The following Sunday will be my first 5K race (husband's second).
After showers and breakfast, I got some laundry going and caught up on a little Sparking.
We went to a running shoe store that we had walked by one day about a month ago and I had them check my gait to see what I should be wearing. She said that although I have low arches, I really do not over pronate. Neutral or a slight stability shoe is fine for me. I ended up getting a new pair of very cushy neutral shoes (I think my knees and back will be happy with the choice)...Nike Vomero+ 6 in yellow

I'll have to check the next load of laundry soon. A nice low key day.
I've got navy beans soaking to make baked beans (in the slow cooker) for tomorrow.

    Loooovvvveeee new shoes. Lots of rain here too and I don't like running in rain. Seems when it clears up, I'm in the middle of something else. (Sounding like a lot of excuses, huh?) Was supposed to go for a 7 miler this morning with my running buddy, but just too wet for my liking. Guess we'll see how the day progresses. Got my Garmin FR60 last week and finally got the footpod to pair yesterday. I haven't had very good luck with GPS, so decided to go this route. Looks like we'll be learning together.

    Love the shoes! I gotta tell you, I was awfully tempted yesterday; DH ran his 10K and I perused the stands while I waited for him to get back to the finish line. Asics was there, and I LOOOOOOVE Asics!! Bought a sports tank instead... it IS getting rather warm out these days.

    Sounds like a wonderful day! No rain here either today, but a lot yesterday! I stayed in no workout just relaxed and cleared some paper work. My tummy didn't feel good yesterday and today either. Didn't eat much. I was afraid too. Hopefully it will fill better tomorrow. I have a class planned for the morning that I want to try out at the gym. Those shoes look cool! Let me know how they feel. Hubby was just saying today that he wasn't too crazy about the 100$ it is going to cost for my bike tune up. i said it beats paying for a new pair of shoes! lol. Thankfully, i am good on shoes for now.

Mmmm, baked beans is one of my faves.
Thanks for your great note today about my downer blog. I listened to Pema Chodron and then took a nap. Then got up and asked my sister when we're working out today, and she said it's ok if we take another rest day so I can just try to relax. Then we did art projects all day. All that helped a lot.
Hope tomorrow is another great day for you!

Yesterday Was Very Busy

I was way to busy to Spark yesterday, so here's a recap.
I did get some exercise in yesterday morning. Did a 2 mile walk with Leslie as a warm up and then CLX Burn Circuit 3

Here's my Burn Circuit 3
Sumo Squat with Overhead Press ~ W-7.5 R-11
Lunge with Calf Raise ~W-15 R-12 (I'll try 17.5 next time)
Squat with Lateral Raise ~ W-7.5 R-12 (I'll try 10 next time)
Lunge with Frontal Press ~ W-7.5 R-12 (I'll try 10 next time)
Squat with Calf Raise ~ W-15 R-12 (I'll try 17.5 next time)
Sumo Squat with Delt Raises ~ W-7.5 R-12 (I'll try 10 next time)
Squat with Double Overhead Press ~ W-7.5 R-11
Lunge with Lateral Raise ~ W-7.5 R-12 (6 on each leg) (I'll try 10 next time)
Sumo Squat with Calf Raise ~ W-15 R-12 (I'll try 17.5 next time)

It felt good.
After I took my shower, I just had time to swiffer vac before my brother showed up.
We walked over to Southern Kitchen for our lunch. I got chicken chilaquilles. Pretty tasty but it was dark meat so I think I'd go for the beef if I get it there again. I did make it healthier by having them do egg whites only. No, I didn't eat all of it and left most of the tortilla chips.

We walked back to the house and watched a little TV. Then it was time for me to make frosting and bacon for the cupcakes.

I went to my Chiropractor appointment and left my brother watching TV.
We ended up at El Rancho steakhouse for dinner. I got some lemon chicken (grilled, not breaded) and baked potato. Brought half home.....sorry, I forgot a picture.
A little sore today from weights and chiro. Not sure if we're going to go try the track to calibrate my foot pod or just wait until tomorrow (which would be my normal running day) and try out the GPS.
I'll be baking some chocolate chip cookies for a graduation party this afternoon. Maybe go grocery shopping after.
I think it's going to be a good day.

    DARN THE DARK MEAT! I hate that when they use dark meat instead of breast meat. i probably would have sent it back.
the bacon cupcakes, hmmmm, i have heard of those, maybe if it was turkey bacon i would try one. were they chocolate? or something more breakfast-y? i am heading up to Nashville to the airport tomorrow, so i will probably stop by Williams and Sonoma and see what's cooking! that is where i heard of the bacon cupcakes a month or so ago at one of their demo's.

    The food looks great. I love how the cupcakes turned out, too. I've never had bacon on a dessert, but I've seen some bacon covered donuts in a shop near my work and am sometimes tempted to try one. . . Great job on the burn circuit!! Keep Pumpin' iron!

Today is My Friday!!

My migraine came back around dinnertime last night so I ended up just going to bed.
When I got up this morning it was mostly gone. I was a little sore from my workout yesterday (butt, hamstrings, biceps and a little low back...hard to tell if that's from workout or chiro). I did my W4D2 Galloway 5K run and added on some extra walking to make it 3 miles. That felt great.
Work was semi busy. I did not partake of any candy today. Very proud of myself.
On the way home, I stopped at Target to pick up some Hershey's Cocoa Powder. My brother really likes the Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Cake and since it's his birthday tomorrow, that's what he's getting. I came home and baked it as cupcakes. Tomorrow I'll make the Perfectly Chocolate Frosting and top them with bacon...yes emoticon. That was his request. Stay tuned for pictures.
As my title states, today is my Friday. I'm taking tomorrow off to spend with my brother for his birthday. His work gives them today off as well as Monday. I'm happy to have a 4-day weekend. Very tired this week. Probably a combination of TOM and too much candy (due to TOM).

Potluck Wednesday

I set the alarm for 2:30 so I could do my workout before I went to work but my head decided otherwise. Migraine. BOO!
We had a potluck at work today. Lots of tasty stuff. Chicken nuggets, chap chee, egg rolls, gyoza, pasta salad, chips and salsa (and guacamole for those that like it), fried rice (it had shrimp so I didn't have any), salad (covered in dressing so I didn't have any), cheesecake (yuck), banana pudding (I didn't try it) and my brownies.
For some reason (TOM) I ended up having some peanut M&M's as a snack. Not so great considering what I had for lunch but I promise I will not have any tomorrow.
I did to my workout when I got home.
Burn Circuit 2

Sumo Squat with Bicep Curl - W 7.5 R 12 (I'll try 10 next time)
Lunge with One-Arm Tricep Extension - - W 5 R 12 (I'll try 7.5 next time)
Dead Lift Row - - W 12.5 R 12 (I'll try 15 next time)
Sumo Squat with Overhead Tricep Extension-- W12.5 R12 (and I didn't hit myself in the head...bonus)
Dead Lift with Double Row -- W15 R 12
Bowler's Lunge with Single-Arm Row - - W 12.5 R 12 (I'll try 15 next time)
Bicep Curls with Abductor Balance - - W 7.5 R 12 (I'll try 10 next time)
Forward Lean Lunge with Double Row - - W 12.5 R 12 (I'll try 15 next time)
Triple-Threat Push Ups - 12 (on toes..but barely)
I felt like it was safe to up the weights a little bit but didn't want to push it to far. I started to feel it a little in my lower back on the dead lift with double row using the 15 pounders so I scaled back to 12.5 on the rest of the exercises.
Boy, am I glad it's Wednesday. Just one more day and then I have a 4-day weekend. I really need it. At least then I won't be stuck in the office with the candy.

    I love doing potlucks at work. We do it a lot here when we are about to have a big meeting or something, also sometimes during the summer we have a bar b q in the parking lot before we open to the public.

    Hope you are feeling better. You and my mother are among the crazy people (I think I have mentioned that before about you!) who don't like cheesecake. Enjoy the long weekend when it comes. I am off to do my strength training and feel like like burning this morning!

    Migraine - poo, glad you were well enough to do your ST when you got home.
4 day weekend - right on!!! I am seriously contemplating some time off. That is I want it, but can't take it just yet.. Maybe a long weekend would help tide me over.

ARE YOU NUTS?!?! Did I seriously read "yuck" after the word cheesecake? I guess passing on cheesecake can justify a few peanut M&Ms. I had to buy a bag of plain ones today because last night my grandson laid down the law and told me my calendar was empty next week and it's time I start baking cookies again! Gotta love those 6-year-olds!

Have a great "pre-four day weekend" day at work tomorrow.
