Just Friday

Friday, May 13, 2011

I was still pretty sore this morning so I decided I'd just make it my rest day and try for ST tomorrow. Lots of stair climbing at work though. My inner thighs weren't liking that very much but I made them do it anyway. Got lots of samples prepped. The freezer maintained it's -85C temperature all day. Hopefully it'll continue to do so for at least another couple of years. They cost about $10,000.
I went to the chiropractor for an adjustment. It feels so nice when they put the EMS electrodes and the heating pad on. Then he comes in and does his thing. Then its off to the massaging table thing. About 2 hours later my lower back gets sore. That's okay, it will feel much better in the morning and my butt is doing awesome.
We went back and forth on where to have dinner tonight. I finally suggested City Diner which is about 0.5 miles away. We walked over and back. I had a turkey burger with fruit and I saved half of the burger for another meal. Not too bad.
I am exhausted so I will be heading to bed very soon.
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Sore Thursday

Thursday, May 12, 2011

I amazingly got out of bed this morning and did my run/walk...2.5 miles even. I've been super sore today from Jackie's beating yesterday. Boy, I really am out of shape already. The lower back soreness from the chiro visit is nothing compared to my thighs and shoulders...ouch!
It was busy at work today. We were able to get blood from the fellow today and then while it had an hour to spin in the cold room, we went to Pete's to get some coffee. When we got back, one of the -80C freezers had lost it's power. Very odd. There is a common room where we have two freezers among many. I decided to see if maybe it was the outlet, so I'm pushing giant freezers out of the way. I unplugged one of ours that was working and plugged the other one in to see if it would go on...yes, it did. I called to get somebody to reset the breaker. They did and the power was working again on the formerly down freezer. As of 6pm, it's still okay. I'll check first thing in the morning.
After work, I had to pick up a package at the post office. Always a pain. Our nearest post office is not a regular one. It's more distribution. There is no service counter. You have to knock on the double door and somebody comes out and will get a package for you. There were 6 people lined up when I went in today. Now I have a GPS for my heart rate monitor watch.
I baked some cookies for somebody at work who has been very helpful in getting us the mass spec detector. Just chocolate chip...nothing fancy.

That's it for today. I'm beat. Spark at you tomorrow. It's very nearly Friday!!

I'm Back

Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Sunday morning I finished week one of the Galloway 5K training. Then we drove down to LA for the funeral of my oldest friend's father. A very sad occasion but I did get to see my sister and have a Mother's Day dinner with her. After the funeral, I took my husband to my parent's wall crypt. I'm surprised I remembered the number as it's been 10 years since I was last there.
The funeral was on Monday but I knew I wasn't going to be in any shape to drive back up here, so we stayed the night and drove back on Tuesday.
Tuesday morning we were all set to use the tiny hotel gym. Just as we were going to ask at the front desk for the key, two people entered the gym. It only had 3 pieces of equipment and some weights, so we knew we were out of luck. We decided we'd just run/walk on the street. So down Sepulveda Boulevard we went and around the corner onto Ventura Boulevard. I was listening to my Galloway app and it ended when we hit Land Rover Encino (about 1.9 miles away from the hotel). Then we walked and did a little running back. A very nice workout. After a relatively good breakfast at Denny's (I got egg whites, English muffin dry, chicken sausage and turkey bacon...I ended up having only 1 slice of the bacon) we headed back home.
It was definitely nice to be back and see my kitty and sleep in my own bed. I totally did not want to get up and go to work this morning. I ended up not doing my workout this morning but that's okay. It ended up being a sort of short day because we were trying to draw blood from the fellow that I work with but we couldn't get enough tubes..her vein collapsed (as sometimes happens). We'll try again tomorrow. Since I didn't have to do all the spinning in the cold room today, I was able to leave a little early. I did Jackie Warner Xtreme Timesaver Training with 3 pound weights since I haven't done any weights for a while. Whew...I forgot how much that workout made me sweat. Then I hosed myself off and went to the Chiropractor for an adjustment. A little sore now, but that is to be expected. I will be getting up in the morning to do my run..It's pretty warm around here and it's much better to get the exercise in during the early morning hours.
Happy to be back. I've got some whole wheat spaghetti on the stove and turkey meatballs in the microwave (no time to go shopping). Have a happy Wednesday night. I missed you all.

Welcome back! Sounds like you're doing great with the Galloway plan. I've been having tummy issues again the last few times I've tried to run :( And while I've now lost the 5 pounds I gained over Easter/Passover, I'm just feeling totally unmotivated and blah. I did go and get the Biggest Loser Yoga DVD the other day but won't have time to try it until tomorrow. By the time I get home from CCC I have no energy left to do anything. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday - I'll be so happy to have a day off! Woohoo!

As i was lazily spreading cookie dough in to a pan yesterday, i though how ashamed you would be to present my creation as dessert to your friends. but i did, and even though it wasn't pretty and barely presentable, it tasted GRRRRRReat! it's already too stinking hot to spend time in my kitchen making all those little balls and opening and closing the oven a gazillion times. haha. thats my story and i'm stickin' to it!

Yes, I'm Still Here...Just Busy

Saturday, May 07, 2011

Friday morning I did do my Galloway walk/run for 2 miles. The back felt good. I was tired, though. I only got about 4 hours of sleep the night before. Work was busy and had lots of trips to the cold room. Only slight tingly from that.
I saw the chiropractor that afternoon and he showed me the x-rays. I have mild scoliosis and my spine is also twisted making one hip higher than the other. The plan is to go 2 times a week for 2 weeks and then once a week for a month as long is there has been improvement. That sounded reasonable to me. It was definitely weird having an adjustment.
On Thursday night I had dinner with my best friend for her birthday. I baked her some gluten free chocolate chocolate chip cookies:

Friday night I baked the gluten free red velvet cake for the party today.
Here it is with just the middle frosting:

All frosted:

And decorated:

We just got back from the party. Everybody had a good time and the cake was a success :-)
I am going down to LA tomorrow for a funeral on Monday. The father of one of my oldest friends died on Wednesday. A very sad time. But also nice because I will be seeing my oldest sister tomorrow and can celebrate Mother's Day with her.
Have a great one and I'll talk to you on Tuesday (or Wedesday).

really hope the chiro helps you. When I first went, I had a lot of left knee pain and it was because my left hip was rotated down 5 degrees or something vs the right hip and caused more pressure on the left than the right. Was so glad when that went back to where it belonged, knee stopped hurting!

Even if I had, I probably would've come back on a red eye tonight, since DH leaves for a business trip to CA tomorrow - oh, not to mention it was in San Diego. Busy Day Yesterday and Today

Thursday, May 05, 2011

I had no time to blog yesterday so here's the recap.
I thought about doing run/walk in the morning but I was exhausted so I slept in.
Lots of running around at work and then it was off to see the chiropractor. He asked a lot of questions and took some standing x-rays. He did some pushing me around to see if it would make me hurt..not happening. He did say that my hips are uneven and that he thinks one leg is longer than the other. He also thinks that some of the back soreness may be from the arthritis. Not sure about the butt yet. I will go back on Friday to go over the x-ray results and hear what his plan is. He did say that I should do what I usually do, so I went home and did day 2 of the Galloway ultimate 5K (somehow the app skipped day 1 and I didn't realize until I was done). It felt great. No pain at all while running...a little sore this morning but not sure what it's from since it's all very random.
We had some Trader Joe's Chinese type foods for dinner: pork bun (yes, I bit in before the picture was taken..I was starving), stir fry veggies and chicken wontons. Very tasty.

I mixed up some gluten free cookie dough..chocolate chocolate chip with a little added cinnamon and cayenne for my BFF's birthday today. I will bake them when I get home and get a picture then.
I'm fasting for a blood draw right now. I hope my boss comes in soon so we can do this already. I'm starving.
Have a good one!!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

    That dinner looks really yummy!

Hope all goes well with the chiropractor and the xrays. Back pain sucks. Been there, done that...I ended up with surgery as a result...so I totally feel where you are coming from! emoticon

Hope you were able to get a tasty meal after your fast. How was your Cinco de Mayo? I ate way too much Mexican food and felt sick to my stomach afterward. Lesson learned. LOL. Have a great weekend, Nat! emoticon

I'm in the Gallway HM program now. I planned to incorporate the Galloway plan into my 10K race last weekend but ended up running the entire race! I hope all of your medical issues get resolved...or at least that the doctors can sort out what the issue is.

Glad you are going to the chiropractor. i think you will like the results. just remember that sometimes after an adjustment you might be a bit sore (very low level) for a day or 2. keep the ice packs handy! not that the adjustments hurt, just your body reacting to the adjustment.

No pain while running = YAYYYY!! Your dinner looks delish. Are the chicken wontons spicy? Did you get them at TJ's? Hubby loves wontons but they can't be spicy...we both don't like spicy foods.

Well, that didn't really tell you much you didn't know before... hmmmm. Then again, it's good that you're already doing the right things. Are you working on improving your 5K time? Or is this program seguing into a 10K one? Very exciting!!

Food looks delish, as usual. We ended up ordering the breadmachine from amazon; KAF charges too much for shipping over here because we don't qualify for ground. Can't wait!!
