Another cold and busy day at work. The warmer the weather outside, the colder it is inside. Definitely true.
My butt definitely feels sore when it's cold. Very odd. I made an appointment with a chiropractor tomorrow for a consultation. Hopefully he can figure out what is going on.
Even though I didn't do any elliptical or treadmill, I still have managed to get in over 11000 steps so far today. Lots of walking up and down the stairs at work. Then I had to deliver some samples to somebody at Stanford. The parking lot was at least 1/2 mile from the building so I got it a bit of walking there as well.
For dinner tonight, we tried Trader Joe's Chicken Asada. We had it as tacos on Trader Joe's corn and wheat blend tortillas. Vegetarian refried beans on the side. Quite tasty.

Then I baked some low carb spice muffins for my husband to take for breakfasts.

Time to go and roll my butt and back. A little sore right now.

    The food looks good! Hope the back thing gets solved. I'm thinking you might be disappointed with any recommendations to take it easy -- but that's merely a postponement. Having my leg in a cast and gaining weight for 10 years before getting thyroid medication has taught me that an interruption doesn't mean that it's over. All you want to have over is the pain and discomfort!

    Hope the chiro can help you! It is pretty cold in our building this week too. I noticed the big difference from being inside to going outside. Outside was much nicer. i have to remember to bring a sweater or light jacket to work daily. Dinner sounds and looked so good. I like Mexican.

    Brrrr...I hate to be cold. I'd rather be too warm than too cold. It's easier to turn on a fan or remove layers, but when I am cold it takes my body a long time to warm up. Good luck at the chiropractor!! Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about the soreness! My hubby has had some similar pain lately, and went to the chiro yesterday. Turned out to be an "inflamed disc" in his spine..?? Dunno, but he has to do a lot of stretching, icing, and minimal activity to get better. Lame! Hope you get some answers!

What Happened to the Weekend?

For those of you wondering, yes, I did do the elliptical on Sunday morning. I originally planned on 30 minutes which turned into 3 miles which turned into 3.5 miles (42) minutes. I definitely felt good while I was on it, but somehow I don't think it agrees with my back/butt. Later in the day they were a little sore but by bedtime I felt fine. This morning and most of today, they've been sore. Not sure if it was caused by the elliptical or because I slept funny (I woke up with a cat on my chest and I was kind of in a weird position). My plan is to rest today and maybe walk tomorrow. If I'm feeling good on Wednesday, I may try running. My back may just prefer it. It's different muscles and not a twisting motion like the elliptical.
Yesterday morning we took Malika in for her rabies and FVRCP vaccinations. Unfortunately, she also had some worms...maybe picked up in the garage. We don't let her out of the house otherwise. She was not a very happy kitty when she got home but is doing fine now.
We decided to go to House of Falafel for lunch. I had my usual, the falafel plate. We also got some fries (not pictured).

I only had 3 falafel balls and my husband had the rest.
I baked some superdoodles (snickerdoodles with cinnamon chips). Some I kept as is to give to some of my dialysis guys. The rest, I added chocolate chips to for a cinnamon and chocolate cookie extravaganza. We tasted them last night...yum!!

Another busy, cold day at work. At least I did not need to go into the cold room. It seems the hotter it is outside, the colder it is inside the hospital. Crazy!
I finally tried out my Cricut cake with some frosting sheets that they sell. I still need some practice but at least I've got an idea of how to use it. The sheets are very fragile, so I tore some of the edges accidentally. I'm hoping to get some good designs to put on a cake this weekend.

Tonight's dinner is a rehash of last Tuesday. Trader Joe's jalapeno chicken sausages and Alexia sweet potato fries. Maybe another veggie. I'll ask my husband when he gets home.

    SUPERDOODLES! They look great, as does the falafel plate; totally yummy. 42 minutes on the elliptical is AWESOME. The elliptical is very difficult for me, stamina-wise; running is easier. I hope to be able to do 40 minutes on the elliptical soon!!

    Hope the back is better today. Good job on those cricut cake cutouts, those look great. I don't have the cricut cake, just the regular cricut, but I hear some one others talk about the cricut cake and it takes time to master the skill of peeling them off the sheet. Those cookies look so good and I bet the smell and taste was even better!

I was thinking about getting my mentor teachers something to say thank you for letting me mess up the flow of your lessons to practice teaching and all your baking has inspired me I'm thinking I might make them some cookies, definitely cheaper then buying boxed chocolate!

i think those ellipticals are a hard work out. might be that until you have used it regularly for several months that you will always get some aches from it, if it is a muscle that is aching. i would think that the pain would lessen over time/use of the machine as the muscle gets stronger.

the falafal balls look interesting. sort of like a "hushpuppie"? (seasoned and deep fried cornbread ball).

and the cookies, oh yummy goodness! i'll take a half a dozen with a glass of cold milk please!

I Hiked on the Treadmill/Incline Trainer Today

It appears the thought of going to the chiropractor has scared my back/butt. They are feeling significantly better today. A couple of mild twinges. Hopefully that'll keep up.
I decided I'd give some incline trainer a try today. I have some of the Jillian Michaels iFit cartridges so I did Lose Weight Level 1 #1 and then added on a little extra for 40 minutes total. I felt slight pressure in my left buttcheek on and off but that was it. After I was done I gave it a good rolling. It's been pretty happy the rest of the day.
I texted my friend who goes to a chiro to see where she goes but she hasn't returned my text. That's okay because from what I could tell from the websites, nobody is actually open for new business on the weekends.
We headed to Trader Joe's to get groceries and on the way stopped at Rejoice Buffet for lunch. We both wanted some veggies.

Yes, I did already take a bite out of my onion ring before I took the picture. The greens it was sitting on turned out to be mustard greens. I only had a couple of bites. Yes, I had one piece of orange chicken. There were only those two pieces of tofu to be had. I did get a second plate (sorry, no photo) that had some more green beans, broccoli and a couple more pieces of the bbq pork. I definitely need some protein at dinner since I only had oatmeal for breakfast.
Not sure what we're doing. My husband has been napping on the couch since we got home. I'll have to get him up if he doesn't wake up soon. I'm starting to get hungry for dinner.
I think tomorrow I'll give the elliptical a try. It's been almost two weeks since I've used it. Fingers crossed my back/butt stay happy and maybe by Tuesday I'll be up and running again.

    Oh boy, and of course I am huuuuuuuuungryyyyyy! DH is in the kitchen, fixing chicken and dumplings, and it's going on 7 pm, so hear that stomach growl...

Do you know the modified pigeon pose or #4? It's a great stretch for those odd areas of your butt and lower back, and it really helped me when I jacked up my left cheek a couple of weeks ago. Walking was very uncomfortable, but it didn't seem to interfere with running, thank goodness. You lie on your back with your knees bent, put the ankle of one leg onto the bent knee of the other, reach through the hole and gently pull in your leg towards your chest. You can rock back and forth or side to side a little, move your knee around a bit or raise your head and shoulders to change the focus of the stretch.

Hope it helps, and sure hope your back keeps being good!

    are you scared of a chiro? I love mine!!! I have had 6 and truthfully liked 4 of the 6, but only 2 were exceptional! Only reason I left the first exceptional one is that I moved and it was not feasible to see her any more. I can talk all day about good and bad ones if you want, just let me know!

    Hope the back continues to cooperate. Just getting ready to do 30 Day Shred again. Then housework. I have had issues the past few days with really stiff and sore achilles tendons. Did some research and it appears with was from my 10%% incline running on the treadmill. I apparently should have worked up to that! Who knew! So back on the flat for running which means I can't run outside yet. I live in a sort of bowl and no matter where I run there is a huge hill. Have a great day, my friends.

    Mmmm, lunch looks good! Keeping my fingers crossed that the back twinges are behind you.

I do seem to have permanent butt pain - priformis, I guess - doesn't seem to get better or worse so mostly I just ignore it. It's not terrible by any means & doesn't bother me while I run.

Our bodies are funny creatures! I suppose I should have my BIL check me out but that would be kind of weird.

Another Busy Day at Work

Yes, it was very busy. I had to prep 39 urine samples to be run on the mass spec over at Stanford. First I had to take them out of the -80C freezer and thaw them out. That took a couple of hours even in a tub of water. My boss wanted to bring the first 5 over earlier so I did those first. They needed to be diluted and then filtered. He also asked me to meet him at the front entrance with a cart. He had Diet Coke he wanted me to put in his office..6 24-packs. He drinks a lot of it. I used that as my opportunity to make him take is hold Mac G4 home instead of taking up valuable cart space in the lab. Lots of walking up and down the stairs again today...I had 10,000 steps by the time I got home from work. Luckily, I did not have to go into the cold room.
We were going to go to the International Gourmet Buffet for dinner. My husband was craving some Persian food and they do it very well there (the owners are Persian). When we got there, it was gone. Something else will be opening soon. Very sad. We ended up at our standby, Chavez Supermercado Taqueria. I finally had something other than carnitas. I had barbacoa..beef, it's what's for dinner ;-)

Back's was not at all tingly today but was sore off and on. Not sure what triggers it. Sometimes I'll bend down and it hurts and if I do it again a couple of seconds later, it doesn't. Annoying. I'm contemplating a chiropractor. Not sure. I sort of think they're quacks but they seem to help some people. I'll see how I'm feeling about it tomorrow.

    Your job sounds so exciting! OMG being of hispanic origin, I used to eat barbacoa all the time until I learned what it was. If you thought it was good I won't tell you so you can continue to eat it if you want to.

I used a chiropractor for my back and neck and she helped alot. GOOD LUCK with that.

    A friend of mine is married to a sports medicine specialist chiropractor. From the few times we have discussed issues, he seems really good. That might be a good way to go

    Well if you're willing to start trying things you think are crazy maybe you should give accupuncture a go, it might be worth it...

    So e chiros are quacks, but many aren't; my BIL definitely isn't - but he's almost cult-like & wouldn't use western medicine at all & that's been a real bine of contention in their marriage.

Our grandparents were mostly gone before we got married. My parents were the babies in their families by quite a bit & so am I. My grandma died about the time we got engaged; his grandfather not long after we got married.

But at least there's a lot of longevity in both our families.

    Chiropractic is a great option, just ask your friends who they go to, because just like anything else, they are all different. Acupuncture is pretty good too! i used to have this old chinese man give me acupuncture. he looked at my ear and told my life story from it (healthwise that is!) wish he was still around.

More Cold Room Action

Today was more work with plasma in the cold room. And it was cold in the hospital.I kept warm by going up and down the stairs a lot. I did not bring my heating pad. I did wear an Icy Hot patch on my lower back. I had forgotten how good they feel and every once in a while I'd catch a whiff of the menthol. Not tingly today and only a tiny bit sore. I did some extra good butt massage with the foam roller last night and this morning. I will definitely do it again tonight and tomorrow morning. It seems to be working..or it's just coincidence. With any luck maybe by next week I'll be back to normal.
It seems like it's been a very long week. I am definitely looking forward to the weekend.

    I am glad your back is feeling better. I got a relaxed run in this morning. I just concentrated on an easy, even pace and it worked. I ran a full 5kms straight again, and it felt good.

    Yay finally caught up on your blogs! I don't think the foam roller is a coincidence, it seems to make your back feel better every time you use it. I like the idea of having the icy hot patch on your back, especially in the cold room, I bet it helped a lot!

    Glad you are feeling better Nat! hey, if you ever want an ice pack, i got a great one a few weeks back. it has CLAY in it. it molds around shapes very nicely! i love it!

    Happy Thursday! I could have used a foam roller yesterday and today, still a little sore from Monday and Tuesdays workouts. An Icy Hot patch sounds good for your back, hope it gets better soon! Good luck!
