I had planned on getting up early this morning and doing the elliptical but I've been so tired in the mornings this week. Today it may have been the after effect of the migraine.
Busy day at work but I managed to get in 40 minutes of dancing anyway.
When I got home it was really hot in the house. The elliptical is upstairs and it was just too hot in that room today to do it. I decided to go downstairs and see what was On Demand. I ended up doing Leslie Sansone 3 Mile Walk. Not as high intensity cardio as the elliptical but I was still sweating...maybe because it was so hot. I felt like I did something, though so it's all good.
I had ordered TurboFire and it arrived yesterday. Some of the discs were scratched so I've been watching them to make sure they played. So far I checked 4 of the scratched discs and they all had playing issues. I'm going to check every disc to make sure. The set is not cheap and I ordered the advanced workouts as well. Since I didn't purchase the insurance on them, I cannot return them for free replacements after the first 30 days (as far as I know). I know I won't be doing the workouts for quite a while but it's better to check them now so I know they'll be playable when I'm ready for them.
Nothing else going on today.
I do plan to get up early tomorrow. I want to do the elliptical and even if it's not as hot as today, I'd like to get it done early. I'm meeting my BFF for lunch. Yes, a short day at work. What a great way to start the weekend!!

    Oh sorry to hear that your new dvd's are scratched, that sucks! Good job on the 3 mile walk though. Even though it is not high intensity I also sweat a little doing it. Have fun @ your lunch with BFF!

    glad you're feeling better! I would certainly return the discs asap. They might not have issues later, but I can see over time stuff accumulating in the scratches and then you'd be out of luck!

    I am glad it is hot somewhere. The snow is melting here, though. I am going to try for my first 5 km straight run since October last year. I took the day off work so I also want to get the housework done before DH gets home around 3 so we have the rest of the weekend to do what we want. It is great being a grownup!

    Sorry your discs are scratched! I've been watching the turbofire infomercials. I'm still trying to use the resources I have. I think you were smart to do something, but not push too hard. When I overtrain, I actually lose workout time resting up.

    Did you get them from BeachBody or Amazon? I don't know if someone is pulling a scam on the latter, but I've read a LOT of reviews there that said the discs were defective and couldn't be replaced, because Amazon is like a reseller and BB won't honor whatever warranties they usually issue on the sales. Sounds like a load of BS to me...

I hope they won't give you any trouble replacing your discs. You've paid good money for them!

    That really sucks about the discs, but such great advice to check them out when you first get them. I hope that you are able to fix them or find a way to get them replaced. I love when a short day comes for work, enjoy it.

    What a bummer about the discs. Will they give you a hassle about exchanging them?
The turbofire is an incredible workout. I decided to put it off for now because it was too high an impact on my ankles. Hopefully in a few months running and this!
In the meantime I live vicariously through you... hehehehe

It was hot today! It was 85 when I got home from work at 5pm! I used to have to workout upstairs with no AC and it was horrible and so hard to get motivated! Good for you for doing something. Leslie Sansone is so cute and positive! I have a couple of her dvds.

I Started Out With a Migraine But it Went Away and I Baked Cookies

I stayed home from work because my migraine became visual and I knew I couldn't drive anywhere. I emailed my boss..that took a while because it was so hard to see..and then I went back to bed. It did go a way for a while, coming back a little now. I hope it goes away over night.
Enough of the migraines.
I did get in 4.5 miles on the elliptical today. I did a load of laundry. Don't worry, I carried small batches of clothes down stairs rather than the whole basket all at once. I baked the chocolate chip cookies for my Niece's boyfriend:

For dinner we had casarecce with the leftover spinach and quinoa and Whole Foods chicken chili (canned). The casarecce is the pasta.

It was very good. the combination of textures and flavors really worked well.
Tomorrow it's back to work. Which is a good thing.

    I get silent migraines -- funky stuff. congrats on exercising! some people find that hard to do with migraines in play. I saw that dinner and had a strong "I want that" -- maybe I'd better go eat breakfast . . . . Looks good!

Oh, It's Tuesday

I had planned on getting up this morning and doing the elliptical but when I woke up I had the worst headache. I have had it most of the day. It seems to have finally gone away (fingers crossed). It's just my standard TOM migraine/sinus headache combo. Boy, do I hate it.
Okay, that's enough ranting.
I did manage to get some dancing in my office which is good because I didn't end up doing the elliptical today. I had a lot of statistics to do at work...yuck!
We had some Trader Joe's Chili and Lime Chicken burgers for dinner. They were very tasty. I'm taking the last one for lunch tomorrow. On the side we had edamame. Sorry, I forgot to get a picture.
I was good and did not indulge in any M&M's today.
Oh, my back is doing a lot better. Much less crunchy when I stand up after sitting for a while. The knees are a little less sore, too. Maybe they decided to give me a break because of my head?
The plan is to get up early and do my workout. I'll be baking some chocolate chip cookies for my niece's boyfriend. His birthday was yesterday and he requested chocolate chip cookies. So he shall have them.

    Maybe the knees are still hurting, but because your head hurts so much you don't notice... I can always tell when your TOM is on the way because your blog always features M&M's somewhere, you only seem to indulge in that one week, I eat chocolate so much you could never use that as a gauge...

    I'm glad you got in the "move it, move it" when it fit into the schedule. I had a cancellation and had time to walk to a doc office to sign a release form -- and I was disappointed with the calorie burn. I just walk a little too slow -- dancing would have been higher impact. Still, it felt good and the swans are nesting by that lake, so the scenery was interesting.

    Back and knees crunching and stiff when you move after sitting. I'm always like that. I guess I am just used to it. Sound like you are doing well, though. I am off to do another 27 minute run, maybe 28. I think I will reset the treadmill after my 5 minute warmup and see how far I get. I have a day off Friday and if I feel good, I might go for 30 minutes, or even 5k. I feel good and I am ready.

Oh, and this weekend, I think I might get new running shoes. I love the "goodie" shoes I have gotten, but they all are wearing out. I am going to the New Balance store an hour away and will get fitted for the right shoes. I have a thing with my professional accounting association that I get 15% off and free shipping if I order then online from the Toronto store. I will ask for the 15% off where I will be, and if they won't give it to me, I will just take my info and order online. That's the way it is. Every penny counts these days.

Mmmh, chocolate chip cookies! DH loves them. He has a friend in the States who is renowned for his recipe and sends a large box every year for Christmas. Kind of a cute tradition.

Chili and lime are one heck of a tasty combination! I hope there's a Trader Joe's near us whenever we end up moving!!

Frosted Car Cookies and a Tasty Dinner

I had planned on getting up at 2:30 this morning to do some elliptical but my body decided it wanted to stay in bed so the plan was delayed about 12 hours.
Work was work. Not too bad. We did have a meeting and they always last too long. I ate way too many pretzel M&M's. They are my new addiction since they don't make the crispy ones anymore. I shouldn't have bought them but Monday and TOM had me craving candy. Oh well, I worked off quite a bit of them (if not all) on the elliptical this afternoon. No more for the rest of the week, Natalie!!
We had a yummy dinner tonight. Trader Joes' Organic Sirloin Roast, spinach and quinoa cooked with some curry powder and chicken broth.

My husband helped ice the cookies:

Now the icing has to dry a little before I can put them in a container and they'll be all ready for tomorrow night at the model car club meeting.
Oh my back? It's still a little crunchy and for some reason the knees are feeling sore today. It's not even rainy and cold. Cranky knees...oh well.

    I can't believe you used "crunchy" to describe your back AND a snack in the same post! emoticon Well, your plan of action seems perfectly reasonable, and I'm glad to hear you're continuing to get better. Backs are such sensitive areas, once there's something wrong...

LOVE your dinner! Ours was kind of hodgepodge, but pretty tasty (and colorful): I tried the spinach salad from the BodyRocker cookbook someone put together (yum!), pan fried some chicken breasts with lots of Mrs Dash (chili/lime) and some broth, and heated up the leftover roasted potatoes from the weekend.

I have to ask: WHY do you have car shaped cookie cutters? That's so cool!

    The cars look like a lot of fun and the meal looks healthy!! I can fathom being awake at 2:30 but not exercising! I have a hard enough time with that at 6 am!
Go slow with the back -- full recovery tends to avoid reinjury/restrain.

Sunday Fun (Pictures of Cookies Included...You Have Been Warned)

My back was a little crunchy this morning but not too bad. I decided I needed a good workout and did 4.1 miles on the elliptical. My back has been less sore upon standing today. Better and better.
My workout plan will be the elliptical and body weight exercises and lots of abs for this week. Next week I plan to start running again (I'll go back to week 4 of C25K since I will have been off 2 weeks. Does that sound right or should I just restart week 5? Opinions?) and do the body weight stuff...maybe try light weight at the end of the week...No More Trouble Zones? Then on 4/10 restart ChaLEAN Extreme. It will have been 3 weeks so I figure I'll just restart.
We ended up at the Boiling Crab today for lunch. It would be a great place except I'm not into the shellfish. You get crab, shrimp, crayfish by the pound and can have it as spicy as you want. My husband had a pound of crayfish. I got the chicken strips..the only non shellfish item except for the fried catfish or sausage (side item). We had some cajun fries. They actually had a little spice to them.
We walked around the shopping center for a little while and then got coffee at Starbucks.
I had mixed up some cookie dough before we went to lunch and rolled it out and baked the cookies when we got back.

I will frost them tomorrow with chocolate buttercream...requested by my husband. There will be pictures of the frosted ones then.
I think we are headed to Chavez Supermarket Taqueria for dinner tonight. I see some carnitas in my future...yum!!! It's a good thing I put in some time on the elliptical this morning ;-)

    Hi Nat! as usual, teasing me with that wonderful food! I love how you go out to eat often. reservations are some of my favorite things to make for dinner!
i think you will be fine to pick up where you left off. you are already doing 4 miles on the elliptical, and to me, that is the same as running, with out the stress of course. you will do great!

    Car cookies! Too cute! As for C25k, I think that since you've already graduated once, you could start week 5, and then if it seems like too much, go back a week. But as often as you work out (and as good shape you are in!) I don't think you'll have any probs w/week 5 :)

I agree with Samaara on the running. Just try week 5, and if it doesn't workout for ya go back to 4. You might surprise yourself, I always do!!!

    My husband would love that shellfish place... I don't think you'd have any trouble with week 5, it's just a matter of your knees so if you think they'll be fine I'd say go to week 5. Love the cookies, are they for something in particular?

    Are you going to decorate the cookies too? That would be so cute, but tons of work :)

As for the running, you are SO fit and you hurt your back thru the weights not running. You could always plan on week 5, start it and see how it goes. If it's too much you can dial it back right away.

    Oh...yum...carnitas! You are quite the baker! How do you not gain weight with these sweets? You must have good self control. I have no advice on the C25K program. Maybe the repeat is a good idea?

    I tend to do the go backwards to move forwards, as if goig back to week 4 sets you up for a stronger week 5. Your plan sounds pretty solid. The cookies look great! Nice cookie cutters!

    It seems like you like Mexican food as much as Brian! He could eat it all the time...I like it but about once a month is good enough for me! Glad you got a good workout in and it sounds like you have a great plan to get back into the swing of things!
