Sunday Fun (Pictures of Cookies Included...You Have Been Warned)

My back was a little crunchy this morning but not too bad. I decided I needed a good workout and did 4.1 miles on the elliptical. My back has been less sore upon standing today. Better and better.
My workout plan will be the elliptical and body weight exercises and lots of abs for this week. Next week I plan to start running again (I'll go back to week 4 of C25K since I will have been off 2 weeks. Does that sound right or should I just restart week 5? Opinions?) and do the body weight stuff...maybe try light weight at the end of the week...No More Trouble Zones? Then on 4/10 restart ChaLEAN Extreme. It will have been 3 weeks so I figure I'll just restart.
We ended up at the Boiling Crab today for lunch. It would be a great place except I'm not into the shellfish. You get crab, shrimp, crayfish by the pound and can have it as spicy as you want. My husband had a pound of crayfish. I got the chicken strips..the only non shellfish item except for the fried catfish or sausage (side item). We had some cajun fries. They actually had a little spice to them.
We walked around the shopping center for a little while and then got coffee at Starbucks.
I had mixed up some cookie dough before we went to lunch and rolled it out and baked the cookies when we got back.

I will frost them tomorrow with chocolate buttercream...requested by my husband. There will be pictures of the frosted ones then.
I think we are headed to Chavez Supermarket Taqueria for dinner tonight. I see some carnitas in my future...yum!!! It's a good thing I put in some time on the elliptical this morning ;-)

    Hi Nat! as usual, teasing me with that wonderful food! I love how you go out to eat often. reservations are some of my favorite things to make for dinner!
i think you will be fine to pick up where you left off. you are already doing 4 miles on the elliptical, and to me, that is the same as running, with out the stress of course. you will do great!

    Car cookies! Too cute! As for C25k, I think that since you've already graduated once, you could start week 5, and then if it seems like too much, go back a week. But as often as you work out (and as good shape you are in!) I don't think you'll have any probs w/week 5 :)

I agree with Samaara on the running. Just try week 5, and if it doesn't workout for ya go back to 4. You might surprise yourself, I always do!!!

    My husband would love that shellfish place... I don't think you'd have any trouble with week 5, it's just a matter of your knees so if you think they'll be fine I'd say go to week 5. Love the cookies, are they for something in particular?

    Are you going to decorate the cookies too? That would be so cute, but tons of work :)

As for the running, you are SO fit and you hurt your back thru the weights not running. You could always plan on week 5, start it and see how it goes. If it's too much you can dial it back right away.

    Oh...yum...carnitas! You are quite the baker! How do you not gain weight with these sweets? You must have good self control. I have no advice on the C25K program. Maybe the repeat is a good idea?

    I tend to do the go backwards to move forwards, as if goig back to week 4 sets you up for a stronger week 5. Your plan sounds pretty solid. The cookies look great! Nice cookie cutters!

    Don't have much advice on the C25K. I should be starting week 4 but might repeat wk 3. Haven't decided yet & probably won't until I step on the tmill lol. Love the cookies...can't wait to see them frosted!

Saturday is Chore Day

Today when I got up my back felt pretty darn good. So good, that I decided I'd try the elliptical. 4 miles later, it still felt good. Still a little bit sore when standing after sitting for most of the day, but now it's hardly even sore when I stood up after sitting for about an hour. I think I'm nearly over this!! emoticon
There were errands to run today. We went to Hallmark to pick up a Bar Mitzvah card for one of my nephews. We actually had to ask where they were. The lady had to open up the understock and pull out a box that had the "jewish cards" in them. We found a suitable one. I'll figure out what multiple of 18 I will write the check for and mail it on Monday. We're not planning on attending the dinner party in Chicago next Sunday. We wouldn't even be allowed in to the Lubavitch World Headquarters in New York on Saturday for the actual reading of the Torah.
We had planned to go to the sushi buffet at the mall for lunch but it was really crowded. There were a whole lot of people lined up to get in. They must have all brought their 50% off coupons. We ended up going to our standby, Rejoice Buffet. Also an Asian buffet. Lots of broccoli, bok choy, string beans and a little bbq pork. A fine lunch. Since it's near Whole Foods, that's where we did the grocery shopping. I picked up some salmon and avocado rolls for DH because he missed out on his sushi at lunch. He will have those for dinner and I got some vegetarian summer rolls (with tofu) for my dinner. Nice and light.
I've got laundry going now. DH brought the basket down :-) He also did the vacuuming. Yes, I did get very lucky. Now I'm going to see if I can get the dust bunnies under the bed with the swiffer. It's pretty bad.
Maybe I'll watch some House tonight. I'm still watching last season on Blu-ray.
A nice day. Still rainy, windy and chilly. But that's okay by me.

    Glad to hear your back is better -- I had to do sit-ups to help my back for awhile. Why wouldn't you be able to attend the Torah reading? too far away? or not observant enough? I'm glad you found the cards. It gets tricky sometimes.

It seems like it's been a very long week. Maybe because I haven't been able to get in the kind of exercise I'd like to. It has ended on a happy note. My back is doing a whole lot better today. Just a few twinges when I get up from sitting for too long.
I went to Stanford and got a little hands on experience on the mass spec. It was very helpful. I do need to order some more supplies before I can get over there again.
I managed to get in 2 hours of dancing around today. That could be the reason my back is a little sore now. Maybe it was a little too much. The knees are achy today, too. It's been cold and rainy so I suspect it's the arthritis. I took an ibuprofen so that should take care of the minor aches. I can't complain. It's all much better than before.
I did have a little too much chocolate today. TOM is due over the weekend. There is definitely a correlation.
We ended up having L&L Hawaiian for dinner. I got my favorite, kalua pork and cabbage. It's actually one of the healthier dishes except for the salt. I got broccoli and brown rice as my sides rather than white rice and macaroni salad.
There is still plenty of pork and rice left over. I ate all my broccoli. I should start pounding the water, though. The sodium plus TOM is going to show up if I weigh in tomorrow. emoticon

    Sounds like a good day. Today is going to be busy, I have to make breaad, bake a cake to take to friends' for dinner tonight, clean house, do errands and maybe work out?     Oh my gosh, you have an L&L over there?? I make Kalua pork at home and sometimes toss the leftovers with cabbage in skillet. It's really good!! We don't eat a lot of local food here because of the salt but I've learned to keep the sodium under control by cooking a lot of things myself.

Not Really a Day Off

I decided I'd stay home and read for work today. I didn't actually do any reading but I watched some videos on Youtube about the Mass Spec. They were very informative and not boring like the book, so I think I accomplished my goal.
I also got in some walking on the treadmill. I started out at 3mph but that was too fast for my back so I kept decreasing the speed until it felt good which ended up being 2mph. I was able to up the incline to 4% without and noticeable pain in my back. I got in 1.75 miles which is pretty good. My heart rate monitor went all wonky and sometimes told me my heart rate was 180 and sometimes nothing, so I don't know how many calories I actually burned. It felt good to do something, though. I also did a little dancing.
Tomorrow I will be going into work. From there over to Stanford to learn more about the Mass Spec.
I'm glad I didn't have to go out today. It was really windy and rainy.
My back is doing better. Still sore but not very much. I am deciding if I should take an ibuprofen or not. More for if there was any inflammation from my walk on the treadmill than actual soreness.
That's enough rambling for one day.

    I'm not big on taking pills, but when it comes to backpain, better to take that extra ibu than accidentally contort yourself while you're trying to prevent hurting yourself... You know, the other day I read that on a regular treadmill, a 0% incline is actually a slight DEcline which is why it's better to slightly up the incline when you use one. Isn't that interesting! Well, I'm glad you were able to work out AND get some rest, and that your back is starting to feel better. emoticon

    Hiya Nat, I definitely think you should take an ibuprofen- you'll notice by morning how much it helps. It was cold, snowy and windy here today but I managed to get out and run 3.1 miles. I've switched from music to listening to my audio books (I go slower but it makes the time pass much faster :)) Because of the snow I missed both Wed and Thur going back to other job, so I'm going in tomorrow for a 15 hour day! Yikes! Hope your back gets better soon!

A Bath Pillow is a Very Nice Thing

I think the soak in the tub yesterday did help (or maybe it was the hot water bottle) because I was standing much straighter today and I could walk at a normal speed. Still a little sore when getting up from a sitting position, but I think it's improving. :-)
It was a busy day at work getting the chemical waste ready, looking at data, ordering supplies. I was supposed to go to Stanford tomorrow to learn about how to run the mass spec but it turns out the person who was supposed to be helping me wasn't able to do it tomorrow so it has been postponed until Friday. Originally I was going to go at 1pm and my boss told me to just stay home and read and then go directly to Stanford. When I told him it got postponed, I wanted to know if he wanted me to still stay at home and read or come in. He said to do whatever would make my back feel better. I don't know what will make my back feel better, but I may stay home and read.
On my way home from work today, I stopped at Bed, Bath and Beyond and picked up a bath pillow and a bath mat. They make a huge difference in the comfort of soaking in the bathtub. Very, very nice.
We had Trader Joe's Jalapeno Chicken Sausages and Alexia Yukon Gold Fries for dinner tonight. The fries are baked and only have 3.5g fat for a generous 24 fries. Very tasty, too.
I'm baking some low carb coconut muffins for my husband to take for breakfast. The recipe is from the same cookbook that I made the coconut cookies from. They should be out of the oven in about 4 minutes. Then I can get a picture to post here:

    Yay glad your back is starting to feel a little better! Bath pillows are wonderful things aren't they... I think you should definitely hang at home tomorrow, relax your back while you read, it'll be good for you...

My sister gave me a bath pillow once, and I kinda thought, what would I need this for? But even for someone my size it's just sheer luxury. Glad you're enjoying yours!

    So happy the pillow worked for you. I have one and it is nice to use, especially if I decide to stay in for a while and read my book. The muffins look and sound very tasty. I may need to go soak my knee tonight. Still a little achy, not like this morning, but there is something there. I hope it is gone tomorrow. I only did my walking today and that was not too much to do.
