C25K Week 1 Day 1...Let's see how the knees like it.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

I had a super busy day at work. I went in and had to get rid of some old samples from the -80C freezer to make room for some new ones that were shipped to us yesterday. Then I had to drive over to another hospital and drop off some fiber packets and get some blood from one of our study participants. Then it was back to the VA and get the blood ready to run on the HPLC (I'll actually run it next Tuesday) and make an aliquot for the clinical lab. By that time, it was time for lunch...not a moment to soon as I was starving. Then I had to wait for my shipment to come. I finally got at at 2:45. I usually leave work at 2:00 but I had to wait for my stuff. Then I had to unpack it all and put it in the freezer. It was almost 4:30 by the time I got home.
I fired up the treadmill and the C25K app on my iPhone and I was off. My knees felt a little tight during the first few running intervals but by half way through they were fine. No pain at all. They felt a little tight afterward but that happens sometimes with the elliptical as well. They're a little sore tonight but they've been a little sore at night for weeks. I'll see how they feel tomorrow.
Dinner tonight (in case you were wondering) was salmon burgers (I had my on a sandwich thin) and asparagus. Then I realize I was way too low on calories, so I had some almonds.
Pretty good day! Tomorrow is my rest day (meaning I may dance around my office but won't do any weights or heavy cardio).
Happy Tuesday night and have fun watching Biggest Loser if you do (I don't and I only caught a little of tonight's What Not to Wear).

Hope you knees are up to you continuing. Sorry I have been MIA, but I have had the bubonic plague and just haven't been Sparking, only sleeping. I am aiming to get back to running next Monday, but who knows, and who knows where I will be able to pick up the program. Thanks for asking how my days were going. Didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.

Yes, It is Valentine's Day

Monday, February 14, 2011

Work was okay. I had to drive over to Stanford for a meeting this morning. That's not so bad. It's the parking over there that I hate. Luckily I found a spot easily. I ended up paying $5 to park. I wasn't sure how long the meeting was going to last and it was $1 for each hour. I didn't have 2 ones, so $5 it was. Oh well.
Lots of stuff to do when I got back to the VA.
My boss actually gave me a small box of See's candy. He can be very sweet sometimes.
Then he wanted to go over some information from the meeting and make a plan for things to do. This made me miss another meeting I was supposed to go (but really didn't want to).
I emailed my doctor this morning. I wanted to let her know that my knees were still sore in the mornings when I got up, often sore in the evenings and sometimes just sore randomly. I asked if I could start running this week. She said as long as I took it slow then I could give it a go. YAY!!! I'll be starting the C25K (for the 4th time) tomorrow.
I had turkey chili simmering in the slow cooker all day. It made for a great dinner.
I gave my husband his Valentine's Day present...a whole bunch of different chocolates and a card. He gave me mine: a box of chocolate, a card and a dozen very beautiful red roses.
It turned out to be a great day and that is really saying something for a Monday.

No Candy Today

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Since it was Saturday I made sure to get in 6 miles on the elliptical.
It was a good thing. Breakfast was light...Ezekial English muffin with PB2. Lunch, however, was another story entirely.
We headed over to the mall so I could get my brows threaded and then I stopped by Sephora to pick up some Philosophy body wash and collect my birthday gift (another Philosophy body wash...score!!!).
My husband decided he wanted Thai for lunch. We had yellow curry chicken with extra potatoes (I don't know why they're so chintzy with the potatoes...potatoes are cheap), chinese broccoli with pork and pork fried rice. Very tasty, but that yellow curry is evil....I always try my best to take as little of the sauce as possible but it's still full of coconut milk.
After lunch we headed over to Whole Foods to do some grocery shopping.
For dinner we ended up going to a Mexican chicken place. We shard some very tasty grilled chicken, rice, beans and tortillas. Definitely a lot lighter than lunch.
Today I had no candy. Actually I didn't even want any. Some days are sweets days and some days are not. I just try to have more non-sweets days.
Happy Sunday! For all of you celebrating Valentine's Day early, Happy Valentine's Day!!

I renamed Valentine's day to Kindness day as I was working with a couple who weren't looking forward to it -- my daughter called it "Singles Awareness Day" in middle school.
Congrats on the 6 miles! I love the culinary adventures -- it's much better that eating a lot of pretend food products and then calling it healthy!

Eyebrow threading is very big here too. Most the westerners wax and most the eastern descendants thread - very old school.
Sephora sounded like it was fun, but then Sephora almost always is. :)

Nat, did I miss your birthday???? Happy birthday! I hope it was wonderful. I think I remember us talking about how both of our birthdays are in Feb. :) Great job on no candy!!
Which Philosophy body wash do you like? I am a beauty product junkie so I am always trying new things. I think I sampled some philosophy products a while ago (bought a travel size to try) but not the body wash. I didn't like the moisturizers everyone is so crazy about.
We had Thai Friday night for dinner. Yummmmm. Happy Sunday to you and happy Valentine's Monday. We are going out a day late, on Tuesday night.

M&M's For Lunch

Friday, February 11, 2011

Luckily the inspectors finished up yesterday so the hospital feels a whole lot happier. However, it's been quite an aggravating day at work. Busy morning looking up patient information for a study that's 3 years old. We're in the process of having the paper published but one of the reviewers sent 30 questions he wanted answered before we could publish the paper. Most of these questions aren't even relevant to the study itself. That just makes looking up the information even worse. Those peanut M&M's were just calling to me and today I decided I'd have some. Only about a serving and I'll just call it lunch because now I'm not hungry for the one I brought. It's a frozen low fat chicken burrito. I guess that's what I'll have on Monday. Some days a sweet treat really does satisfy. It even has some peanuts for fiber and protein.
I'll be doing my Muscle & Fitness Hers strength training routine when I get home and maybe 30 minutes on the elliptical to burn off a little of the M&M's.
I am really ready for this weekend. It's been a super stressful week. A little R&R is just what I need.
Happy Friday everone!!!
