M&M's For Lunch

Friday, February 11, 2011

Luckily the inspectors finished up yesterday so the hospital feels a whole lot happier. However, it's been quite an aggravating day at work. Busy morning looking up patient information for a study that's 3 years old. We're in the process of having the paper published but one of the reviewers sent 30 questions he wanted answered before we could publish the paper. Most of these questions aren't even relevant to the study itself. That just makes looking up the information even worse. Those peanut M&M's were just calling to me and today I decided I'd have some. Only about a serving and I'll just call it lunch because now I'm not hungry for the one I brought. It's a frozen low fat chicken burrito. I guess that's what I'll have on Monday. Some days a sweet treat really does satisfy. It even has some peanuts for fiber and protein.
I'll be doing my Muscle & Fitness Hers strength training routine when I get home and maybe 30 minutes on the elliptical to burn off a little of the M&M's.
I am really ready for this weekend. It's been a super stressful week. A little R&R is just what I need.
Happy Friday everone!!!

Hey, It's Thursday. Awesome!!!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Not to bad a day at work. I got in at 5:30 and starting going about my day. My boss emailed at 6:30 to tell me he was taking leave today. I emailed him back to ask if I could leave early to read. He emailed back that he needed me to email him something from his computer and then I could go. I left at 8:30. I did actually do the reading I needed to do. I was unable to get any done at work. There was just too much tension in the whole hospital with the inspectors around.
I got in 6 miles on the elliptical for the SF to UK relay...that reminds me I have to put in those miles.
I boxed up the cookies so that when my husband comes home he can take them to our friend tonight.
I have no idea what I'm going to make myself for dinner. I guess I should go down and see what I've got.
A good day!
Have a great night!

Guess Who Baked Some Cookies?

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Today was my day off of exercise. Very weird. I did do my Quickfire Challenges for the day...high marches and shadowboxing. I also danced around a little bit but definitely didn't do anything hardcore.
Lots of aggravations at work. Just one of those days. I didn't see any inspectors, though.
I baked some cookies for a friend's birthday. They are espresso chocolate chip.

We had some whole wheat pasta shells with home made pasta sauce, Trader Joe's Organic Foursome vegetables and some turkey meatballs. Very tasty.

My package with ChaLEAN Extreme showed up today. When I opened up the case with the DVDs, some of them were off the spindles (and the spindles were actually not even attached to the package...it's got weird packaging). They had some scratches on them so I figured I should watch them to make sure they would play okay. I did get through most of one of the discs and it was okay. I'll have to finish check it out and check the other one. Hopefully they'll be fine and I won't need to get a replacement. I'm waiting to start the program when my friend LENKEES is ready to start. She had injured her back and is currently not exercising. I'll just continue my Muscle & Fitness Hers routine until we're ready to go with ChaLEAN.
Just two more days this week. We can totally do it!!

Tuesday

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

I had to read that grant application once more today. We need to make sure that the copy that is submitted is the same as the copy we wrote. My boss said he couldn't stand to look at it again because he's too tired of it. Fair enough, he wrote it. So I spend a good part of my morning looking that over. Also had a lot of data to look at and enter into our excel spreadsheet. Luckily, I saw no inspectors today.
I did get in some elliptical this afternoon...5 miles, not too shabby. I realized today as I was recording my miles and calories burned on my calendar that I hadn't taken a day off in almost 2 weeks. I think I will start taking Wednesdays off. I pretty certain that 2 total body strength workouts a week is adequate. Is this true? Feel free to give me your opinion on this. I don't want to take a weekend day off because I tend to eat more on the weekends (I think that's a pretty common occurrence for most people) and I'd like to be burning some calories. I also tend to walk around more on work days than I do if I'm just at home.
We had some Jennie-O turkey burgers for dinner. I had mine on an Eating Right Sandwich Slender (the Safeway knock off of the Oroweat/Arnold/Earthgrains Sandwich Thins). My husband had his on regular buns. He decided he wanted chili burgers so we opened a can of turkey chili since we didn't have any left from the potluck. A side of asaparagus and it was a very nice dinner.
Tomorrow brings another opportunity to dodge the inspectors. I've got some reading to do at work and some supplies to get ready for our study participants.
Have a great night. We're nearly halfway through the week.

Yuuuuuum. The only time that I had a decent turkey burger was on the grill ( and I didn't make it!). It seems like the ones out of the pacakge are too hard for me to make?! I don't have good luck with that. I should take a cooking class or two! My standby( and what I'm having for lunch today) is homemade turkey chili.
On a side note: There's a VA clinic ( hospital?) goign up in my hometown this year.

It's Wed -- so happy rest day! You may find that resting gives you more progress! I think that I've heard that 2x week strength training is good for maintenance and 3-4x is good for pushing progress. I've also heard that some people prefer to strength train every day, alternating muscle groups in order to give rest. See what fits you best. If 2x gives you what you want after a month, keep it there. If not, add something. Your cardio input is fantastic! emoticon

How much longer will the inspectors be around? I imagine you in a trench, shades and hat peering over your desk to dodge them :-D

Report Inappropriate Comment
MISSMITSY 2/9/2011 6:56AM

Two is adequate if you're doing full body sessions, 3 would be the maximum you would do because you need to rest the muscle groups in between, especially since you often do other strength work...
Fingers crossed you can avoid the inspectors again tomorrow!

I am taking the day off work to recover from this nasty cold I have. I can't be sick tomorrow because there is payroll to be done, which of course means mine too. I may walk on the treadmill later today but I will have to see how much energy I have. Hope you have a good day today.

It's Monday and I Didn't See Any Inspectors

Monday, February 07, 2011

The office of the inspector general (OIG) is at the VA this week inspecting. They may or may not come through research. I haven't seen them yet, but the folks in the dialysis unit are all on edge. It seems like all the inspections do is make everybody freak out. Can't get any work done because you can't make any messes. It's really hard to do experiments when all of your equipment has to be put away. I'm hoping they show up after 2pm when they do come. I'll have gone home. :-)
Today I did some strength training. Even used the 25 pound barbell for the chest presses. I think I'll be feeling it tomorrow. I wanted some cardio, so I did TurboJam Cardio Party. It is fun but now my knees are a little sore. I guess I can't do it on the carpeting with shoes on. I think friction of the shoes on the carpet puts too much stress on m knees. Boo! Just when they were feeling really good. Hopefully they'll be fine in the morning. I'll just have to stay away from the TurboJam or do it without shoes.
We had the leftover vegetarian chili for dinner. Still yummy.
Have a great night!

I hope your knees are feeling better. I tried doing a Zumba DVD with socks on last night -- couldn't twist very well -- actually kinda twisted my socks off my feet! LOL -- it wasn't a pretty sight anyway and that just made me laugh all the more. I caught glimpses of myself in the glass in the curio cabinet... I looked like some 52 year old lady with no rhythm whatsoever! Imagine that!! LOL

Sorry, got to rambling there -- anyway, hope your knees are better today and that those inspectors have been there and gone!
