It's Monday and I Didn't See Any Inspectors

Monday, February 07, 2011

The office of the inspector general (OIG) is at the VA this week inspecting. They may or may not come through research. I haven't seen them yet, but the folks in the dialysis unit are all on edge. It seems like all the inspections do is make everybody freak out. Can't get any work done because you can't make any messes. It's really hard to do experiments when all of your equipment has to be put away. I'm hoping they show up after 2pm when they do come. I'll have gone home. :-)
Today I did some strength training. Even used the 25 pound barbell for the chest presses. I think I'll be feeling it tomorrow. I wanted some cardio, so I did TurboJam Cardio Party. It is fun but now my knees are a little sore. I guess I can't do it on the carpeting with shoes on. I think friction of the shoes on the carpet puts too much stress on m knees. Boo! Just when they were feeling really good. Hopefully they'll be fine in the morning. I'll just have to stay away from the TurboJam or do it without shoes.
We had the leftover vegetarian chili for dinner. Still yummy.
Have a great night!

I hope your knees are feeling better. I tried doing a Zumba DVD with socks on last night -- couldn't twist very well -- actually kinda twisted my socks off my feet! LOL -- it wasn't a pretty sight anyway and that just made me laugh all the more. I caught glimpses of myself in the glass in the curio cabinet... I looked like some 52 year old lady with no rhythm whatsoever! Imagine that!! LOL

Sorry, got to rambling there -- anyway, hope your knees are better today and that those inspectors have been there and gone!

Have a good night and a great Wednesday!

Great job on the workout as always. Easy on the knees. I always thought cardio without shoes would be a big problem. So I try to always wear mine.
Chilli sounds good. I need to make that Chicken Encilada chilli again soon!

Hope your knees aren't too sore still. Yeah it is normal for everyone to freak out when you have visitors (in you case inspectors). When I worked daycare and licensing would come by, everyone would freak out. I always told my staff, if you are doing it right in the first place you have nothing to be afraid of.

Hope you ducked the inspectors. I know how it feels to have someone take everything you do and put it under a microscope. I never wear sneakers exercising at home, except on the treadmill. I dislike shoes to start with, and wouldn't wear them at all if I didn't have to. Hope Tuesday is a good day for you.

Try duct taping the bottom of your shoes, reduces the whole carpet friction problem... Good luck not seeing the inspectors! There's nothing worse then the stress of having people there checking up on you...

I Don't Like Football.

Sunday, February 06, 2011

I was a good girl and got in 6 miles on the elliptical this morning. I knew my brother would be coming over for lunch and that we would be having some snacks later so I figured I should burn a few calories in the morning.
We went to one of our favorite places, El Rancho Steakhouse. I got the chile verde burrito and brought about half of it home (a little less because my husband had some at the restaurant). I may be having the rest for dinner tonight. We haven't decided what we're doing.
As you can tell, I won't be watching the superbowl. We did check out a few minutes of the puppy bowl on Animal Planet, though. So cute.
I did get some pictures of the food from the party last night but it's just my stuff. After people arrived I got to busy being hostess and forgot to get pictures.

Happy Sunday! I hope your team wins!!

I actually like football, but we got NFL network a few months ago and I'm ready to disconnect the cable to get rid of that channel. I've already told my ds that once superbowl is over, NFL network will be severely limited. I've reached my football limit and dd reached hers months ago.

Party Saturday

Saturday, February 05, 2011

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't get a blog in. That's okay. I did get my strength training in and danced around the office. We went to sushi for dinner (I had teriyaki salmon) and then to the grocery store to get some last minute stuff for the party today.
This morning I got 5 miles on the elliptical. Gotta burn some calories because potlucks are like a buffet at home. After my oatmeal, I baked my triple chocolate cookies.

Yes, this is the same picture.
I had gotten the chili assembled in the slow cooker last night and put it in the fridge so all I had to do this morning was turn it on low.

I must say it does smell really, really good. I hope everybody likes it.
We cleaned the house so that it's presentable. I've got to find a cloth for the table and get some onions chopped and cheese shredded for toppings.
From what I've been told, people are brining: chow mein, bbq pork, spinach dip, beer, steamed dumplings and salad. I guess we'll see if anything else shows up or not. I'll try to remember to get some pictures of all of the food and post them tomorrow.
Have a great Saturday!!!

Chinese New Year!!

Thursday, February 03, 2011

It is Chinese/Asian New Year today. I know if for sure. We live in a predominantly Vietnamese Neighborhood. There were a few firecracker trials at about 8pm when I headed to bed. I definitely knew when it was midnight. Those firecrackers lasted until about 1am. Needless to say, my sleep wasn't the greatest. Last year they were at it again at 6am (it was a Saturday morning). I don't know about today since I was already at work at 6am. I guess I'll ask my husband tonight.
I will be doing my elliptical this afternoon. Hopefully my headache will be gone by then, but I sort of doubt it. Very annoying.
I spent the morning proofreading the grant yet again. And comparing it to another copy to make sure nothing got deleted. Crazy!! This afternoon, I'll be reading consent forms to see if they have everything in them that we might want to do in the future. Having a headache doesn't help matters. What does help is that it's Thursday. I cannot wait until tomorrow. I am ready for a weekend.
We're having a welcome party for some colleagues at my house on Saturday. It's a potluck, so I don't have to make everything. I will be making some vegetarian chili in the crock pot and baking some of those triple chocolate cookies that were so popular. You can't go wrong with chocolate. Won't add any nuts just in case.
Happy Thursday everyone!!! We've only got one day left until the weekend.

Happy Lunar New Years to you too! In Japan they call it Setsubun. Always fun celebrating different cultures. Did you manage to have a Mabo Tofu then? Sorry to hear about the fireworks. We amazingly didn't have any here - but then again it's illegal and I'm not sure if they even sell any during this time of year nearby... never thought about it. Hope your headache goes away! Maybe some relaxing green tea? I can't remember if you like green tea or not... oops... Oh, your job sounds like so much fun! What is it that is your title exactly? Pasta and Meatballs

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

I guess I've gotten back in the habit of exercising in the afternoons. It's hard to do a workout in the morning if I've done one in the afternoon so it perpetuates itself all week.
It was a sort of busy day at work. A manuscript to proof read and some blood samples to prep for the HPLC. I also was looking up articles to find out how to prep samples for some new chemicals we will be studying. While reading, I danced around my office for a while. When the good music comes on, I just can't help myself. Good thing I don't have any windows in my office.
I did my ST workout today. I decided to skip the lower body (squats, deadlifts, calf raises) because my left hamstring was still sore from Monday. May have pulled it a little. I did the upper body (all 10 pounds except triceps kickbacks at 8 pounds) and crunches. Then I did 3 miles on the elliptical.
I realized this morning that we did not have any jarred pasta sauce. We did, however, have some canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce so I made my own sauce this time around.
Dinner was whole wheat penne, my fancy homemade sauce, turkey meatballs (frozen) and broccoli.

It turned out pretty well. I haven't made my own sauce in quite a while.
I am very glad it's Wednesday.
Have a great night everyone! We're more than half way through the week.

You and your delicious food pics again! Last night I made chili and cornmeal muffins with cheddar cheese and bacon in them. A really good and satisfying meal, if a bit high in the calorie and fat categories. Good for you for making your own sauce. It's so much better than the jarred stuff. My hubby makes huge batches of tomato sauce then we freeze it so we rarely use the jarred stuff, although I usually have some on hand just in case. Today is strength training but I am going to skip the squats as my knees are sore from yesterday's 25 minute run.
