Sunday 1/23/11 I Did a Little Baking

Sunday, January 23, 2011

I slept in until 5:30 this morning. I must have been super tired. I was craving some cardio so I did 70 minutes on the elliptical and got in 6 miles.
I made some oatmeal with a little vanilla whey powder, chocolate PB2, fiber one and a square of Trader Joe's Organic Super Dark 73% chocolate. Tasty!!!
For my husband, I baked Ginger Chocolate Chunk Scones. I needed 1 square shy of 1.5 bars of the TJ's chocolate...that's why it ended up in my oatmeal. Win-win!

I did a load of laundry and swiffer vac'd around the house. We went to Trader Joe's to pick up some groceries. After they got put away, we went out to lunch at one of the many local taquerias. I had some chile verde, rice, beans and tortillas. It was pretty good but not as good as the chile verde at El Rancho.
I got a Cookie Calendar. It's one of those page a day calendars (weekends are one page), so it has over 300 recipes. Actually it has a master recipe and then for a few days following it, there are variations. I picked it up yesterday when we were walking around Mountain View. I decided to make this weekend's cookie: macadamia nut cookies with the variation of dried cranberries.

They turned out nicely. I did not roll them in sugar and flatten them. I just left them as scooped.
I'm really not sure what we'll be doing for dinner if anything. I suppose we'll be hungry soon. I have nothing planned for tonight so we'll have to pick something up.
Have a great night. I hope everybody has a fabulous week!

"Fun" Saturday

Saturday, January 22, 2011

DH and I headed out at 6:30 because I needed to stop for gas. Then off to Kaiser. Of course the door I usually go in was locked, we had to find another door. Finally get in and get to the lab at 6:55...it is supposed to open at 7:00..it was already open and they were on number 50 (no, it does not start at 1 every day) and I pulled my number...60. Not too bad. Only have to wait for 9 people. I get my blood drawn and we decide to head over to the hospital building to see if we can get a cup of coffee since my mammogram isn't until 8:30 and it was only about 7:15. We find the cafeteria but it doesn't open until 9 on the weekends and although there are vending machines, there isn't one that sells the icky coffee. We leave the hospital from the basement and get trapped behind the building. Have to walk up and down a whole bunch of stairs before we get to a place that we recognize. It's time for Starbucks. We cross the massive parking lot and finally get across the street.
YAY for coffee!!!! Then it's time to head back to Kaiser. We get back at 7:55 and they are just arriving in the Women's Imaging department. I get checked in and prepare to wait until 8:30. I get called back at 8:15 and we're walking out of the building at 8:30. I call my brother to let him know we're heading over and he says "Wow, your appointment only lasted 1 minute."
We went to Baji's Down the Street Cafe. I got a really good egg white, chicken, mushroom, tomato, onion and jack cheese scramble with some home fries and 9 grain toast. I was starving so I ate the whole scramble but only half of the potatoes and toast.
As we often do, we headed over to Fry's Electronics and walked around for a couple of hours looking at DVDs, Blu-rays, PS3 games. We get back to my brother's place and then people are starting to feel a little hungry. We decide to walk to downtown Mountain View and go to Shiva (Indian buffet).
Too much tasty food was eaten...well, I still made my calories...not even at the the top and I definitely don't want dinner.
Got lots of walking in. It was a 5 mile round trip to lunch/dinner (lunner). I'm at about 19,000 steps for the day. It turned out to be a good one.

Friday Has Come!

Friday, January 21, 2011

Sort of a busy day today at work. That's okay because it kept me occupied. But boy was I happy to leave.
It's been an exhausting week.
To further exhaust myself, I decided to do some strength training. Bob Harper Butt & Balance. Didn't want to do too much squatting and lunging. Then I did 40 minutes on the elliptical. A good workout day. In the morning at work I did the 15 minute SP desk workout. It hadn't started getting busy yet.
Tonight I'm not sure if we're going to the model club meeting or not. We certainly have to finish eating dinner by 7pm because I plan on getting my blood drawn at 7am and I need to be fasting for 12 hours. We almost always go out to eat on Friday night but still haven't decided where. My husband isn't home yet at it is 5:40. He better get home soon or I'll have to resort to a frozen meal.
Not a super exciting day. I'm looking forward to tomorrow so I can get my blood drawn and for extra fun also get a mammogram. Then we'll be heading over to my brother's place to have breakfast.
Have a fabulous Friday everyone!!

Argh! I hope you were able to eat some real food. My funny mammogram story: Years ago I was getting a mammogram in a small hospital in Wyoming. The exam room was right off of the lobby. The technician put my boob in the machine and started to crank it down. For some reason, I passed out... but because my boob was stuck in the machine (and because there was/is a lot of boob), I kind of stretched out and finally went plop to the cement floor. The technician didn't know what to do. She wanted to open the door and call for help but because I was laying half naked on the floor and the door opened to the waiting room, she was in a tizzy. I was fine. It was fine. And the next year I had the same technician. Poor girl.I'm sure she never wanted to see my face (nor my boob) again! Good luck tomorrow.

Mild Osteo Seen

Thursday, January 20, 2011

I decided to sleep in this morning. I didn't have the heart to move Malika. She had her paws resting on my left shoulder and her head on her paws. So cute.
Work wasn't particularly busy so I had plenty of time to Spark.
When I got home, I put in 54 minutes on the elliptical and got 4 more miles for the SF to NYC relay. It's only about 250 miles away from NYC right now.
I got an email from my doctor about the weight bearing x-ray:
"Hi Natalie,
Here is a copy of your Xray of the knee mild osteo seen . Similar in both knees.
Dr.Joshi"

Well, lovely. What does that really mean? I don't know. Hopefully I'll get a better explanation after the blood work is done. Can I go back to running? I don't know.
Anyway, that's the news so far.
I may get up in the morning to elliptical some more. It depends on if there is a cute sleeping kitty tempting me to stay in bed and if I get enough sleep tonight.
I am very happy tomorrow is Friday. It feels like the week has been very long and draining. Some of that may be due to joint pain. I haven't been taking any pain relievers.
Have a great Thursday night. I'll catch CSI On Demand. Too late for me.

Doctor's Appointment

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I did not do any elliptical today. I was tired and slept in. When I got up my joints were feeling pretty good but by the time I got to work, my knees and elbows were pretty unhappy.
I was done for the day trying to wrangle up people for our study at work, so I headed over to Kaiser for my appointment. I got there about an hour early. That's okay, on a few occasions I've even been seen early. That was not the case today. My appointment was supposed to be at 3:10 but I didn't get called back to see the doctor until after 4:00. She asked lots of questions, she looked at my knees, she listened to my heart and lungs. This was a yearly checkup originally. She said that along with the regular blood tests, she would check for arthritis and also check my vitamin D level. That's good because I was going to ask her if I could have my vitamin D level checked because I wear sunscreen every day and it's usually SPF 100. She doesn't think that I have rheumatoid arthritis, but I could have osteoarthritis. I could also be vitamin D deficient which can cause joint issues. She did send me to get x-rays of my knees since those are the worst joints. We'll see what they turn up and what happens with the blood tests. I won't be doing those until Saturday because I need to be fasting and their lab opens too late (6:30am) during the week for me to go before work. I should have some sort of idea of what's going on by early next week.
She did say no running or jumping (so no jumping jacks or jump rope...sorry, Jillian), until she at least sees the x-rays. Elliptical is okay.
So the answer is, we don't know yet.
If I don't stay up too late tonight, I'll try getting up in the morning to exercise. It's already getting late so I guess I should wind this down and get to bed soon.
I'll keep you updated!

Glad you are getting it checked out! I hope you find relief soon. I also hope it's just your vitamin D levels and not arthritis!!

I would bet you are vitamin d deficient -- most of us are. But you'll know soon enough, and then hopefully you can do something about it & feel better.

Hey Nat! glad you finally got in and have the tests lined up. bummer that you have to wait on the labs. a bit odd, huh, since you work in one.
i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 13 years ago, but i found out that the more i let the pain be the boss of me, the more pain i was in. now i just ignore it for the most part. so hopefully once you find out what the cause of your pain is, you will be able to be the boss of it!!
