Windy Wednesday

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Today my gyming was Personal Training with Jackie: Power Circuit Training followed by 45 minutes on the elliptical.
Then I started a load of laundry and went to Safeway to pick up some stuff for New Year's Eve. My brother has requested pigs in blankets and I could not find the appropriate items at Whole Foods on Monday. He likes the Hillshire Farm 'lil smokies. I got some turkey ones and the reduced fat Pillsbury crescent rolls. At least they'll be slightly healthier. We only do it once a year, so it's not too bad. I also picked up some roasted garlic hummus and whole wheat pita. We'll have some baby carrots and bell pepper as well. It will be some nice snacky stuff for Friday night. I will probably bake some cookies but I haven't decided on what kind yet...any suggestions?
I did bake some oatmeal raisin cookies this afternoon to bring to my hairdresser tomorrow. Yes, he will still get a tip.
Tonight's dinner will be teriyaki pork tenderloin, roasted fingerling potatoes and asparagus. Sounds fancy, doesn't it?
I even watched a movie...Presumed Innocent and I'm watching the second movie on the disc, Frantic, right now. Finally!
The weather here has been very weird. Sunny, rainy and windy. Sometimes all three at the same time.
Happy Wednesday!

I request peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips :) Your New Years Eve sounds fun, I hope you have a great time. I think we are going to stay in and watch the rest of Dexter, season one. My stepson introduced me to this show and I LOVE it! (I definitely recommend Netflix!) So today I'm trying to figure out a way to rearrange the living room so that I can fit the treadmill in it, or at least the bike. Today is the first day of things finally at some sort of normalcy around here and I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful a feeling that is in itself!

Friday's snacks ALSO sound lovely. I think I'm in charge of bringing snacks to the hotel so I need to get on that!

If you haven't made cookies for Friday, hmmm Peanut Butter blossoms? Brownie cookies? Those are my choices

I have no plans for snacky foods tomorrow . . . don't know what DH has planned. I did manage to talk him into making dinner -- it's been 2 weeks since we've eaten out!

Of course, I made the potatoes with yesterday's dinner that we'll have tomorrow, so all he has to do is reheat them. And I'll make some veggies for me tonight that will also provide some leftovers. But he's still "making dinner".

Wow, Tuesday Already.

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

My gyming (thanks Samaara) today was the elliptical for 60 minutes again. My knees are very happy with it. My right foot (a little plantar fasciitis) is starting to feel better, too. Maybe by Saturday I can try running again. We shall see. Otherwise me and my brother will be fighting over the elliptical since he's staying over for New Years Eve.
Nothing too exciting today. I did some laundry, I got the mail, I baked some muffins for my husband. I did take a look at the new Bob Harper DVDs...yikes! I'm afraid to do his "My Workout". I'll have to wait until I feel like I can do some jumping before I try it out. The kettlebell workouts also look very intense. I'm going to stick with the first ones for a little while before I'll be ready to move on to these new ones.
I hope everybody had a great Tuesday. Gotta go, it's time for What Not to Wear!

Did you get to watch last night's new episode of WNTW - that was about the most amazing transformation I have ever seen, the professor girl/lab rat. WOW !!! She looked totally awesome and it did wonders for her self esteem and attitude, kinda of a nerdy one, nothing wrong with nerds though. emoticon

We have a DVR, so I tape everything I want & watch it later. Cause I can't stay up to 9 or 10 pm to watch a show (remember, they start later out here), which I'm sure you can relate to.

So glad the elliptical is working out so well for you! A great investment. I really do wish I had some room for another piece of equipment so I could do more cross training.

Kettlebells are a great workout, and they're really not as bad as they look. I like them a lot! Course, I don't know what that particular workout is actually like.

Busy Day

Monday, December 27, 2010

After my husband left for work, I worked out on the elliptical for an hour. Then I thought I'd do some weights because it's Monday. I didn't want to do any upper body because my arms and shoulders are a little sore from last week (Jackie really worked them on Friday, then Saturday on the elliptical...it has the arms, then yoga on Sunday and elliptical again today). I ended up doing the Bob Harper lower body butt and balance. It has a little upper body but I was using 3lbs so it was okay.
My brother invited me to have lunch with him, so I went over to his place. We went to Clarke's. I got a garden burger and we shared some fried zucchini....yummy. Then I dragged him over to Whole Foods and we did some shopping. For some reason that took a really long time. After I got home, it was time to start some laundry and then start on dinner. We had some two bean (black and pinto) turkey chili with whole wheat macaroni....nothing like chili mac on a chilly rainy day.
Tomorrow I'm going to try not to go anywhere. Maybe I'll even have time to watch one of the blu-ray movies I got for my birthday (February).
Have a good night all.

How are you liking the elliptical? I was contemplating getting one but when I tried out my sister-in-laws it really bothered my knees. I find it weird since running has never bothered my knees. I think my next piece of equipment is going to be a spin bike. I'm thinking about training for a triathlon in 2011 as one of my resolutions/goals. The other resolution/goal should be simple- 365 miles :)

We Braved Target This Afternoon

Sunday, December 26, 2010

As has become my habit on Sundays, I did some yoga. I tried out Bethanny's yoga workout on exercise TV on demand. Not a bad workout. My shoulders and arms are pretty sore...some is residual from Jackie's beating on Friday.
We had breakfast with a friend we hadn't seen for a while. I was pretty good..egg whites, black bean patty, 1 corn tortilla and a few blueberries.
Afterward, my husband and I headed out to Berkeley. We went to the Ace Hardware. Why go all the way to Berkeley to go to a hardware store? They have a very good selection of plastic models. My husband's hobby is model building. We then went to our favorite Indian restaurant in Berkeley, Ajanta. I had some saag paneer (spinach and cheese). They make it nice a spicy. The naan is crispy but soft. And they have brown basmati rice on request.
On our way back, we stopped at Target. I got a $40 gift card as a present and it was burning a hole in my wallet. I picked up a 19" LED TV to put in the exercise room. No, the $40 didn't cover the whole thing but it made it more reasonably priced. It'll go next to the window. Once the mounting hardware I ordered from Amazon arrives...should be Wednesday.
I'm going to need to use the elliptical very soon..perhaps tomorrow. We went out for dinner as well. Chicken enchilada (I brought the other 2 home), rice and beans. Actually, I came in at the low end of my calorie range for the day...not to bad for 3 meals out.
I hope everybody had a great Sunday.

There will be definitely be shoveling today -- DH uses the snow blower, which even tho I don't like those sort of things I'll have to learn cause last time he was gone in Feb. we got 17" of snow that I shoveled all by myself (over about a week!). Unfortunately we have a fairly large driveway. But I will still be shoveling as well -- gotta shovel paths for the dogs in the backyard!

I thought I would go to my local Big Box electronics store to get a case for the iPod I got for Christmas but couldn't even get in to the parking lot-abandoned that idea & got to work an hour early instead.
I'm off to help a friend (cat sitting while she's on vacation someplace warm!) for 10 days & have packed my yoga & Turbo Jam dvd's so I can stay in shape while I'm there. It's a ferry ride away so I'll actually be there, on my own, for the whole time. I'm thinking that means 'no distractions' & that I can redouble my efforts to get thinner before the New Year.

Happy New Year!!!

Excellent Workout

Saturday, December 25, 2010

I fired up the new elliptical this morning and did the interval preset workout for 60 minutes. Including post workout cool down and stretching (for a total of 70 minutes), my heart rate monitor clocked me at 510 calories burned....woohoo! That is awesome!
This is good because we went to the International Gourmet Buffet for lunch..it being one of the few places that was open today. Then we're going to a friends house for dinner which will include the fruitcake I baked yesterday. I needed to burn a lot of calories.
It's rainy and dark today, but I find that quite soothing. At least while I'm indoors, driving in it is definitely not soothing. Luckily our friends live pretty close.
I hope that everybody who is celebrating the holiday gets/got what they wanted. Happy Saturday to those not celebrating the holiday (Saturdays are their own reason to celebrate).
