Boy am I happy it's Friday!

It feels like it's been such a long week. I am so glad Friday has come.
I tried out Jackie Warner's Xtreme Timesaver Training DVD this morning. I used mostly 5lb weights and that was a tough workout. I didn't think I was going to get through some of the 1 minute segments and definitely went slower than they did on some of them. It has quite a bit of shoulder work, so I'll be feeling it tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to raise my arms. Time will tell.
Kind of a slow day at work which is why I'm blogging now. I may be able to head out early. If I do, I may just walk a little with Leslie Sansone this afternoon before we head out to the Silicon Valley Scale Modelers Meeting tonight. No, I don't build models but my husband does and he likes me to come to the meetings. I do like to see the models, but when they start talking about what paint they used and stuff it starts to get really boring. It's okay. I'll bring a book. We usually head over to the Mini Gourmet afterward for some "dinner". We always eat before the meeting so I usually don't get anything but decaf coffee and maybe grab a couple of fries from my husband if he orders something with them.
I'm hoping it won't be too late a night tonight because I've got to go into work for a little while tomorrow. The hazards of research....random work hours. And I'm on salary so I don't get extra but if I do skip out early today, I still get paid the same. It works both ways.

    Unfortunately one of my husband's hobbies is pistol shooting, and I really don't like guns. Talk about opposites attract! One of his other hobbies is photography, and that one works well cause I'll take some photos too and then just enjoy wherever we are. Too bad he doesn't do it much anymore!

    Nice that you can spend some time with him what he likes to do. I'm the same with car shows. Love to look at the cars but when they start talking cam shafts and pistons my eyes glaze over. Well his does too if I get into talking conformation on dogs and horses and or jumping ability, etc. emoticon It's really all about caring enough to be there for there hobby now an then.

My arms hurt reading about your work out! I'm dancing tonight and have a run planned for tomorrow afternoon.

3 Mile Run and Some Oat Bran Muffins

My ankle and calves felt so great that I ran today. I went 3 miles. My calves were a little sore while running but not much. I'm not sure if that's the new shoes or a little residual muscle tightness.
It definitely put me in a good mood for work and the day went by relatively quickly. The HPLC stopped running so I had to get it going again before I could leave, but it didn't take too long.
When I got home I put some clothes in the washer and started making some muffins. The base is actually a box of Krusteaz Oat Bran Supreme Muffin Mix but they had a suggestion for Coffee Break Muffins. For these you add: 1 cup peeled and diced apples, 1 cup raisins , 1/2 cup chopped nuts (I put pecans at my husband's request...they're for him so he should get to choose) and 1 tsp cinnamon. The batter tasted really good, so I think they'll be a hit tomorrow at breakfast.

Soon it will be time to take the clothes out of the dryer and for me to decide what to make myself for dinner. My husband is going out with some friends....the guys need a night out every once in a while (well, this actually happens just about every Thursday night).

    Those muffins sound delish!!!!! I made some muffins last weekend... spice cake mix and a can of pure pumpkin... nothing else. They were wonderful!!! emoticon

    I actually love when my husband has a business dinner so I can have what I really want! Of course, then I have to go out in the cold (or the rain, or whatever) with the dogs, but it's usually worth it.

TurboJam Cardio Party

I was feeling good this morning but figured I've give my ankle and calves another day to rest up before running, so I did TurboJam. It's official. I'm uncoordinated. I did have fun, though. And I did something funny and now my ankle is a little sore. I'm hoping that'll pass very quickly. It didn't hurt while I was working out so I don't think I did anything major.
I'm definitely in a better mood than I was yesterday. Must be the exercise endorphins. My boss is heading out of town today for the rest of the week to attend a conference so I'm all alone but he did leave me with one of his horrible spreadsheets to work on...yuck.
I've been making a grocery list. We're going to try to go to our new Whole Foods (it was way to busy last Saturday) to pick up the Thanksgiving stuff. My mother in law has ordered a pie from Marie Callender's. I was going to make a different pumpkin dessert because that's we had discussed in September but she has sprung this pie on me. When I found out yesterday, I was pissed off. I can bake a pie if that's what she wants. I won't eat it, but I'll bake it. I'm over that now. Let them have their pie. I will be baking some cranberry cookies for myself because I hate pie. After I reminded her that I dislike pie she offered to get a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. I don't like ice cream either. I know...I'm a freak. There will be no ice cream cake. Anyway, I'm sure it will all work out fine. At least I'll be cooking the vegetables this year so they won't be all soggy.
It should be a good day today. Lots of trips up and down the stairs between our two labs will give me a little extra exercise. We're having whole wheat spaghetti and turkey meatballs for dinner. I got some spinach and garlic pasta sauce. We'll see how that is and I think I'll make some okra since it's been in the freezer a long time. If it's too freezer burnt I'll find another vegetable.

    I miss Whole Foods! But they do call it Whole Paycheck for a reason.

We're going to my parents for Thanksgiving. My mom always makes way too much. I'm sure I'll contribute something. Haven't had much time to think about it!

    Whaaaat? You don't like ice cream???? How is that possible? I could eat ice cream all day, every day if someone would let me. My weight loss would go much smoother if I didn't like it. Pie on the other hand, I like but can live without.

I see you've been getting the exercise In today. I haven't tried the BFBM dvd yet, but you are sweet to think that I would.
Spaghetti and meatballs sound great. Was over at bff's grandmas yesterday. shes from Italy and makes a great meat sauce.
rollerskating was fun but very small turnout. I'd go again though. .. well it will be f$149rt to san jose In dec if i dont get a job!

    YAY! Glad you had fun with TurboJam! It takes a little while to get used to it, but no matter what its still a fun workout!

I'm sorry to hear about the pie fiasco - but it sounds like everything is working itself out! That spinach and garlic pasta sauce sounds fabulous!!! I totally have food envy now! haha!

Wow, it was weird to not exercise today

I ended up putting a hot water bottle under my calves last night when I got into bed (but once it cooled off, I dumped it out). I don't know if it was that or the rolling, but my calves and ankle felt pretty good today. I did the foam roller when I got home and it made my left calf a little sore (but it did that yesterday,too) so I'm hoping it'll feel good tomorrow.
I'm thinking I'll do TurboJam in the morning and save the running for Thursday. I figure another day off the pounding will be good. Then maybe run again on Saturday (we're going out for Indian buffet with my brother so I need to burn lots of calories ;-).
It was a pretty good day. Not too busy at work but there were a lot of phones calls. I don't usually get any, so that was odd. Only a few aggravating drivers on the road (talking on their stupid cell phones..grrrrrr).
Tomorrow will be a busy day at work so I should head to bed soon.

    Sending vibes that the calves will be 100% healed soon! People on their cell phones are the worst drivers. They are very aggravating, they don't pay attention and they either drive way too fast or way too slow. They need to follow the rules, no cell phones while driving.

Sore Calves

My ankle was feeling pretty good this morning when I did my weight lifting (Jari Love Ripped & Chiseled). I didn't do any flys or chest presses because I think I pulled a muscle in my chest and it hurts to do those. I rolled my calves on the foam roller after I was done.
My calves (especially my left one....the same side as the cranky ankle) were sore today so I did some more rolling when I got home. Not before trying out TurboJam, though. It was pretty fun but I'm not that coordinated so I guess I'm glad I was doing it in my living room and not in a class somewhere. I rolled my calves after I finished and then after dinner. They're still pretty damn sore.
I'm thinking I should take a day off tomorrow and rest those poor calves. If they are feeling better, I 'll try running on Wednesday. As much as I want to do it on Tuesday, I think my legs and feet probably need the break.
It was a busy day at work so it passed quickly which is nice. The drivers on the freeway weren't too bad but as I was getting on both to go to work and to come home, there were some really slow people not paying attention. I know the person on the way home was on their cell phone...don't know about the morning person because it was dark. I didn't get too mad at them.
Boy I hope my poor ankles heal up....I want to run emoticon

    Oh yes def. take a break tomorrow if you need it. Pain sucks. Do you have a heating pad? That might also help at night. Hopefully you didnt pull a muscle in your chest. I love do flys.
