Pictorial of Taste of Chicago and other sites - Day 178 Accountability

Monday, July 16, 2012

Sunday -

On Sunday, Carla (CARLA0716), Tony (HEALTHDUDE), and I went to the Taste of Chicago, then hoofed it over to Navy Pier - and stopped at various landmarks along the way. Harry, my Sweetie, is still recovering from surgery and this would not have been a fun time for him. We were downtown from shortly after noon til almost 7pm, and I think we only sat down twice for about 10 minutes to rest and cool off. I take that back - we stopped for a beer and that was longer than 10 minutes. The rest of the time, we were walking around in 95* heat. But, we were right on Lake Michigan, so that gave a welcome breeze from time to time.

I haven't spent this much time in downtown Chicago in years. It took Carla coming from Canada to get me out there and do the touristy things! It was a very fun day. Tony is a great tour guide - he knows the city like the back of his hand. I would not have known where to go if he hadn't been with us. It gave me the bug - and the confidence - to get into the city more often.

The Taste of Chicago was a food-fest. We ate a lot, but we walked around and sweat so much, I actually lost a pound.

Here's a pictorial of our day --

Buckingham Fountain - The Taste of Chicago was on the streets surrounding the fountain.

The Art Institute - Those lions roar and then tell you to get off of them or the police will be called!

The Bean at Millennium Park with the diamond-shaped Crain Communications Building and Trump Tower behind it.

The Bean at sunset with the Chicago skyline reflected in it.

Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier.

Carla doing her photography thing from the ferris wheel. She takes beautiful photos. I use the camera on my phone. Can't wait to see her photos.

emoticon1 - Exercise - Carla and I did a 65-minute walk/run before going downtown; 4+ hours of walking around Chicago.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,623. I thought I ate more calories than that. No wonder I lost a pound.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 7 hours. Spark curfew - I wasn't on Spark much yesterday. I took a shower and went to bed when we got home.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.

July 2012 accountability goals --
1 - Exercise at least 30 minutes per day. Per the book, "Younger Next Year," I am going to shoot for 6 days a week of exercise - 2 days of weight training (I'm taking a weight training class) and 4 days of aerobic exercise, mostly biking and swimming. I'm also taking a golf class in July.
2 - Track my food and limit my calories to less than 1700 per day. Goal weight is 148 pounds by end of July.
3 - Sleep 6+ hours per night. Stop Sparking by 10pm. The number of hours that I sleep is directly related to how late I am Sparking/Facebooking.
4 - Eat 1 fruit and 4 veggies per day.

Thanks for sharing! It reminded me of our visits to Chicago. I've never been to Taste of Chicago. Maybe next year!

Wish I could lose a pound. Great job!

Day 177 Accountability

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Saturday -

Very busy day today with my SparkFriend and teammate Carla (CARLA0716), who is visiting from Canada. Carla went for a run early Saturday morning. Smart girl that she is, she took a pen and wrote down street names as she was running so that she could find her way back to my house!

When she got back from running, we went to Centennial Beach for a couple of hours of swimming and sunning. My boss and coworkers were also there. We all went to lunch at Hugo's Frog Bar to celebrate Carla's 40th and my boss's 50th birthdays. We were commenting on how 50 is the new 30 and 40 is the new 20. I'm telling you, those ladies are looking pretty good! After lunch, we walked around the Naperville fine art fair - gosh, some beautiful things there.

Later, our SparkFriend and teammate Tony (HEALTHDUDE) came over for dinner. Tony lives about 30 minutes away from me, but it took Carla coming from Canada for us to finally meet in person! We chatted til almost midnight - thus the late hour for my blog. We've got a busy day planned tomorrow, so heading to bed now.

emoticon1 - Exercise - 45-minutes swimming laps; lots of walking around.
emoticon2 - Calories - 2,291. We had carrot cake at birthday lunch and ice cream cake at birthday dinner.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 7 hours. Spark curfew - 12:30am.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 6 veggies.

Day 176 Accountability

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Friday -

Love my Fridays off for the summer! I started reading the women's version of "Younger Next Year" in bed this morning. It's very similar to the men's, only with women's stories and not as much tough guy talk. I highly recommend this book. It really helped me to see the importance of putting my health first. My Canadian SparkFriend Peter recommended the book, and am I glad that he did!

I started out with a 10-mile bike ride this morning; then swam laps for 1/4 mile. I came home from the beach and drove my car into the front yard and hand-washed it so that the yard got the benefit of the water run-off instead of the driveway getting it. Then I picked up my Canadian SparkFriend Carla from the airport. Her flight was delayed a couple of hours due to storms in Chicago. The rain was much needed, but not nearly enough to break this drought we are having. More hot weather (perhaps in 3-figures again) and scattered showers for the next few days. Carla says she likes it hot. Well, she's gonna get hot!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 45-minute bike ride, 25 minute swim.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,744.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 5.5 hours. Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 5 veggies.

Glad you got the book Nancy. You have to let me know the differences between the two. Say Hi to Carla for me. Yep she will appreciate the heat but 3 figures is a bit much lol.

Day 175 Accountabiity & weigh-in

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Thursday -

This morning, I weighed in at 150.0 lbs. That's where I started the month. I went up a pound after the 4th of July picnicing and baseball gaming. So, I'm back to square one and will have to step it up for the rest of the month to make my goal.

My Spark friend Carla is arriving from Canada tomorrow. We're going to celebrate her 40th birthday while she's here. I'll have to really watch what I'm eating while we're tearing up the town! Wishing everyone an active weekend!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 30 minutes physical therapy and foam roller exercises; 30 minute walk with my sweetie.
emoticon2 - Calories - 2,184. I was doing good until the potato salad and Italian sausage at dinner.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 5.5 hours. Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 5 veggies.

Day 174 Accountability

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Wednesday -

It was a long day with strength training and golf classes after school. I've been pretty frustrated with the golf class and wanted to quit. After Monday's class, Harry suggested that I needed an attitude adjustment about the class. I changed my attitude tonight, and it's beginning to come a little more naturally. It's going to take a lot of practice. Harry said he'd take me to the driving range this weekend and watch me swing. Wish me luck!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 50 minutes strength training; 90 minutes golf class.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,678.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 6.5 hours. Spark curfew - 11pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.

Good luck with your golf game! I used to play when DH and I were dating, then we got married and moved away from our favorite golf courses.....kids....etc. It all got away from me. I was lousy, but enjoyed it just the same. Hang in there. As long as you don't let your score define your fun, you will be fine!

Golf frustrates even experienced golfers! Could be that challenge that keeps them coming back for more. Seems people love it or hate it. I wasn't good, but loved it. Still, it took more time than I usually had and it was hard to find a partner that I enjoyed golfing with since I too was a beginner. Give it a chance. One class doesn't make a golfer; it's just a start. The driving range is a good idea. emoticon

Have fun with golf. I don't like any sport that doesn't have the potential of being full contact. I guess golfing in way does, but, I'd be arrested if I clubbed someone. I know my maturity level. *zilch*

I LOVE your accountability blogs! Thank you.

LUCK! I just can't get the golf thing. I tried a couple decades ago, but I just can't do it. Too frustrating for me. Hitting that itty bitty ball in a hole from way out there! I'll stick to putt putt. Good luck though. I'm sure hitting balls with Harry this weekend will be fun though. Enjoy! emoticon Go get 'em girl!
