Day 170 Acountability

Saturday, July 07, 2012

Saturday --

Today was a busy day. I started by singing (in the choir) for a funeral, then went grocery shopping, had lunch with dad, processed a couple of my Shaklee customer's orders, got my stuff together for my fun run/swin/run race tomorrow, went to 5pm mass, and had dinner with Harry. I'm going to bed by 9:30 because I have to be up at 4am to drive to Wisconsin for the race.

emoticon1 - Exercise - planned rest day before my fun race.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,565.
emoticon3 - Sleep - I was in bed for 7.5 hours, but I was excited about the upcoming race, so I couldn't get to sleep for a couple of hours. I probably slept for 5 hours and I took a nap this afternoon. Spark curfew - 9pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 6 veggies.

July 2012 accountability goals --
1 - Exercise at least 30 minutes per day. Per the book, "Younger Next Year," I am going to shoot for 6 days a week of exercise - 2 days of weight training (I'm taking a weight training class) and 4 days of aerobic exercise, mostly biking and swimming. I'm also taking a golf class in July.
2 - Track my food and limit my calories to less than 1700 per day. Goal weight is 148 pounds by end of July.
3 - Sleep 6+ hours per night. Stop Sparking by 10pm. The number of hours that I sleep is directly related to how late I am Sparking/Facebooking.
4 - Eat 1 fruit and 4 veggies per day.

Day 169 Accountability

Friday --

Don't you love the new Spark emoticons? Here's some of my favorites -
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
After a stroke, my dad walks with a walker. Do you know how much energy and strength that takes him? He's my rock star!

I'm sort of back on track today - except for the shelled peanuts that we brought home from the baseball game. Love them, but gosh, they are high in calories! I had an awesome day - love my Fridays off during the summer. In spite of the 114* heat index, I went for an 10.75 mile bike ride, a 0.5 mile jog (that's all I could take in the heat - and I was just trying to get my Fitness Minutes up to 1 hour), and then swam laps for 0.5 mile. Made some awesome veggie dishes for dinner with the veggies from the CSA (Community Shared Agriculture). We've just about used up the harvest from last week. I'm so glad we bought a share in the organic farm this year.

emoticon1 - Exercise - 50 minute bike ride, 10 minute walk/jog, 45 mintues swimming laps.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,925.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 7.5 hours plus a nice nap this afternoon. Spark curfew - 11:30pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 7 veggies.

My oh My! Look at you go!!! We are supposed to have storms here tonight and in the am so the temps will come down...finally! No more 100+ degrees for a week or so. I never thought 90 would be "cool"! I'm going to hit the pavement more next week. The treadmill is starting to bore me, but it's nice when you can't get out.

I'm liking the emoticon! Good girl!!!

Great day! WTG! I've started reading YOUNGER NEXT YEAR FOR WOMEN. They're singing my song. Thanks for the reference! It's the kind of book you want to go out and buy for everyone you know and love. Alas, I've discovered "They have to want it."!

Day 166 - 168 Accountability

Thursday, July 05, 2012

Tuesday-Thursday --

I'm behind on my food recording, so I'm guestimating Tuesday and Wednesday. On the 4th of July, Harry, another couple, and I went to the Chicago White Sox game. When we left home, it was 104*. We spent about half of the game in the Stadium Club , where it was air conditioned. I don't know how the players could stand to play in that heat. When the temperature dropped to 93*, we went to our seats outside. It was still so muggy that we were sweating bullets, but it was an exciting game and there was a fireworks show after the game. Before the game started, members of each branch of the military went and stood at attention at each of the positions on the baseball field while the song, "Proud to be an American" played. It was very moving - a most memorable 4th of July.

emoticon1 - Exercise: Tuesday & Thursday - 45 minutes physical therapy and foam roller exercises; Wednesday - 45 minute bike ride and lots of walking around the ball park.
emoticon2 - Calories: Tuesday - 2,400; Wednesday - 2,600; Thursday - 2,022. I enjoyed dessert each day, and typical picnic foods at the ball park.
emoticon3 - Sleep: Monday night - 5 hours; Tuesday night - 8 hours; Wednesday night - 5 hours. Spark curfew - 10:30pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - I got at least 1 fruit and 4 veggies each day.

Not bad for a holiday week! Still, didn't move you closer to your goal either. Time to get on track again! Hot here too; making it harder for me to get in as many fitness minutes. It just saps your "get up and go"! Be well! Stay hydrated!

Day 165 Accountability - My First Golf Class

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

Monday --

I had my first golf class on Monday evening. I'm taking the class through the college that I work at, so it's a pretty big class - about 15 students. Hard to get individual attention that way, but hey, it's a start! I bought a golf glove over the weekend and we were talking to the salesman about golf clubs for me. I asked him if the clubs came in different lengths, since I'm 5'9". He told me that unless I was over 6', the women's clubs will be fine for me. (I am not investing in clubs until/unless I like this game and start to play it on a somewhat regular basis. I figured I'd pick up a cheap set at a recycle type of place.) So, in class last night, I'm using the college's women's 7 iron. When the teacher finally gets around to observing my swing, the first thing she says is, "That club is too short for you. You will probably need to use men's clubs. They'll be longer." Glad that I didn't buy clubs yet.

What I learned about golf the first night is that it is hard! It's a mental as well as a physical game. I'm over-analyzing my swing, according to my teacher. I'm supposed to visualize it, and then just let it go. Gosh, all these instructions and I'm supposed to just let it go? I've got a lot of practice to put in before next week! I'm trying to figure out how to record "golf practice" on the Fitness Tracker. I picked Wii Golf - do you think that would be close in calories burned?

emoticon1 - Exercise - 30 minutes aerobic walk/run drills; 30 minutes strength training; 30 minutes golf swing practice.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,264. I was in weight training and golf classes til 9pm Monday night, so ate a very light dinner.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 5 hours. Spark curfew - midnight.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 5 veggies.

Way to go Nancy.. I played golf about 3 times just for fun with some good golfer friends. and they always told me "keep your head down Anita" and let it go.. LOL
that is the only thing I remember .. and besides being driven through a water sprinkler on the course..

Good Luck and you will be a pro in no time.. emoticon

WTG! With the golf lessons. I'm a real believer in making exercise part of the things you enjoy in life; not something you "have" to do. Thoughts on clubs: often instructors can steer you to a good used set as they always know people that are "trading up" I also see a lot of clubs at thrift shops if you just want to pick up a couple for practice. I've seen amazing bags for almost nothing at garage sales, carts too. Here we have a couple of sports consignment shops; ala "Play it Again Sports". It doesn't have to be a big investment until you know it's a long term activity. Good luck! Nothing like not having time to eat! I love those days!

Day 164 Accountability

Monday, July 02, 2012

Sunday --

Finally, some significant rain on Sunday. I'm not sure it was enough to help with our drought, but it was a start. I lost another one of my evergreen bushes that the landscapers replaced last fall. One didn't make it through the winter, and another didn't make it through this drought. Reminds me that I need to drink more water. I was out early, before the rain, for a bike ride. It was hot and muggy then. Drinking my usual 8-9 glasses of water isn't enough when I'm exercising in this heat. We're going to have a heat index of 100-105* on Monday. Great weather for my first golf class.

emoticon1 - Exercise - 35 minute bike ride.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,910. I made Harry lemon bars from scratch. I had to try one. They were delicious!
emoticon3 - Sleep - 9 hours. Spark curfew - midnight. Sweet dreams!
emoticon4 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 7 veggies.

I love your goals for July!!! Golf? Nice! I need to make more time for "me" like you do. Baby steps!

I can't stand the forecast anymore. 100+ temps all week. It's only July 2nd! What is August going to bring? Yikes! emoticon
