Day 158 Accountability

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Monday --

After my simulated triathlon yesterday, my knee felt good today. My orthopedic doctor said that it wouldn't be running the tri that would bother my knee, it would be the training. So, I will limit my actual running and instead use the elliptical in future simulations. Tonight in my weight training class, my teacher had us run the football stadium stairs as our warm up. That didn't seem to bother my knee either. I was very careful, both yesterday and today, not to have a lot of impact on the knee. I think that helped.

Harry finally saw his surgeon today. The doctor said he is healing well, but he wants Harry to take it easy for another 4 weeks. No stress, no lifting over 10 pounds, no exercise, no long car rides, and no work for another month. Surprisingly, Harry wasn't happy about not going back to work. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for him. They have certainly helped with his healing.

emoticon1 - Exercise - 25 minutes running stadium stairs; 40 minutes weight training circuit; 5 minutes stretching.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,725.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 7 hours. Spark curfew - it is 1:30am as I'm writing this. Going to bed now...
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1.5 fruit, 3 veggies.

June 2012 accountability goals --
1 - Exercise at least 30 minutes per day. Per the book, "Younger Next Year," I am going to shoot for 6 days a week of exercise - 2 days of weight training (I'm taking a weight training class) and 4 days of aerobic exercise, mostly biking and swimming.
2 - Track my food and limit my calories to less than 1700 per day. Goal weight is 145 pounds by end of June, so cutting back on calories this month.
3 - Sleep 6+ hours per night. Stop Sparking by 10pm. The number of hours that I sleep is directly related to how late I am Sparking/Facebooking. I've been having a hard time making curfew the last few months. I'm cutting it back to 10pm this month. If I can keep the internet curfew discipline, my sleep will fall in line.
4 - Eat 1 fruit and 4 veggies per day.

You and Harry are both going to have to listen to doctor's orders! I'm glad you're both doing well, but you also both need not to push yourselves too much.
You had another great day, I'm proud of you!

Great news on your knee although running stairs is a real test of it. Must be so hard for Harry to be feeling fine and not able to do stuff. It will happen.

Day 157 Accountabiity

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Sunday --

Today was a beautiful day. I got up and went to mass early. Harry had a meeting this afternoon, so I decided to simulate a triathlon to see how it will be. I didn't do all 3 events back to back, so it wasn't a true tri experience. But let me tell you, I was tired after doing it. I did the swim at 11am, but waited til 2 to do the bike followed by the run. I've got my work cut out for me over the next 2 months!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 40 minutes to do 1/2 mile swim (I'm slow), 45 minutes for the 10 mile bike ride, 25 minutes for the 2 mile run.
emoticon2 - Calories - 2,094.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 6.5 hours. Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 5 veggies.

Day 156 Accountability

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Saturday --

Busy day today. I sang (in the choir) for a funeral this morning, took a walk with Harry and found a 70's chain belt at a garage sale, attended my niece's graduation party, then took an hour bike ride tonight to ride off the extra calories I ate at the graduation party!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 60 minute bike ride, 25 minute walk.
emoticon2 - Calories - 2,350. Portillo's beef, fried chicken, potato salad, cupcakes, etc. at graduation party.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 8 hours. Spark curfew - 11pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 4 veggies.

Day 155 Accountability

Friday, June 22, 2012

Friday --

I love my Fridays off during the summer. I spent much of the day at Centennial Beach with my friends, Cheryl and Rebecca. We chatted about the Danskin Triathlon in August, and decided to go ahead and do it. So, tonight, I signed up for the Super Sprint, which is shorter distances than the sprint race - 1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike ride, and 2 mile run. I swam laps with Rebecca today. Rebecca is my friend who did the Naperville triathlon a couple of weeks ago. She swam 1/2 mile in the time that it took me to do about 1/3 mile. I completed the 1/2 mile, but I was exhausted and wondered how I would be able to bike and run after that. My friend Cheryl is a marathon runner, and she's in training for the Chicago marathon. She is on a running schedule and runs 13 miles the day before the triathlon, so we decided to do the super sprint together. I'm really excited! This has been a dream since I ran my first 5K last fall.

emoticon1 - Exercise - 45 minutes swimming.
emoticon2 - Calories - 2,084. Margaritas and nacho chips after a long day in the sun. Those 3 Margaritas really added up. Had me rather tipsy, too! But they sure tasted good going down.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 8 hours. Spark curfew - 10:30pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 0 veggies.

Three margaritas? WOW girl! emoticon

I signed up for WW online again. I'm making my husband do it with me. If he wants something else to eat, he's on his own. I guess if you starve, you'll lose weight, too!

Have a great weekend!!!

You are so blessed to have active friends to do things with. Calories were more than fine for a day like that. But, it does illustrate that when we have beverages with calories and snacks; to keep our calories inbounds we bypass healthy choices like veggies. Once in awhile, not a problem. I am in awe of your, and your friends, goals! WTG!

Day 154 Accountability

Friday, June 22, 2012

Thursday --

We got a teeny bit of rain today; not nearly enough for this draught that we are experiencing. Harry hasn't been able to mow his grass for 3 weeks, and it hasn't needed it, either. That's how long it's been since we had significant rain. Harry's appointment with his surgeon got postponed AGAIN. Now it's scheduled for Monday. The surgeon told him 4-6 weeks recovery, so I guess he's in no rush to see Harry and release him!

emoticon1 - Exercise - 60 minutes of physical therapy exercises and foam roller therapy; 30 minute massage. Did you know that Spark counts massage as cardio? I guess it's working the muscles I just don't usually sweat during a massage.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1,986. I had to have ice cream on this hot day.
emoticon3 - Sleep - 6 hours. Spark curfew - 11pm.
emoticon4 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.

A great day for you Nancy! I'm glad Harry is doing well. In this case it's nice not to be seen by a doc...sure beats all the tests and docs from a couple weeks ago! We haven't mowed out lawn our lawn for 2 weeks...funny it's been like August weather here! Have a great weekend...Jane
