DRINK, STEAL, SWEAR & LIE

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Now that I have your attention, I thought I'd share an email I received today...

DRINK, STEAL, SWEAR & LIE

I met this guy while I was in Albuquerque and he has a motto he lives by everyday. He said listen carefully and live by these 4 rules: Drink, Steal, Swear, & Lie.

I was shaking my head 'no', but he then told me to listen while he explained his four rules. So here they are:

1. "Drink" from the "everlasting cup" every day.
2. "Steal" a moment to help someone that is in worse shape than you are.
3. "Swear" that you will be a better person today than Yesterday.
4. And last, but not least, when you "lie" down at night, thank God for the blessings you received that day.

This was an insight for me more ways than one. Thanks for the eye opener!!! emoticon

My life is...a flower of God's design

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

The following was a meditation that was sent to me. Thought you might enjoy it.

"It is only a tiny rosebud...a flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals with these clumsy hands of mine.

The secret of unfolding flowers is not known to such as I.
God opens this flower so sweetly, then in my hands they die.

If I cannot unfold a rosebud, the flower of God's design,
Then how can I have the wisdom to unfold this life of mine?

So, I'll trust in Him for leading each moment of my day.
I will look to Him for guidance each step of the Pilgrim's way.

The pathway that lies before me only my Heavenly Father knows.
I'll trust Him to unfold the moments just as He unfolds the rose."

No matter what age you are, it can be frustrating to determine God's will for your life. But God has your days numbered and knows how many hairs are on your head. His plan for your life is perfect. Instead of worrying about what tomorrow or the next week holds, take one day at a time and trust in the Savior for guidance.

PRAYER CHALLENGE: Pray that God would give you wisdom for each day and reveal His plan for you one day at a time.

    How absolutely true! I bet you have done this---really, really looked at a flower petal. It might appear to be red, or yellow, or some other color. But when you really study it, there are a myriad of colors blending together to make it look the way it does. Only God's paintbrush can do that!

I pray for wisdom every morning. Wisdom for my son--so that he'll continue to make choices that are good for him.

Wisdom for me--so that things I say will positively effect the children I teach.

** I think Todd is right! We WILL be great friends!

    This is beautiful! I write to a few female prisoners and I am sending this to one of them today. She thinks she will be getting out of prison in a year or so and is worried about life and how her children will respond to her. This is great...reminding us that God is in Control and has a plan. I know it will be of great encouragement to her and many others that I may send it to in the future. Thanks for posting!

We are spiritual beings having a human experience

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

I am a physical, emotional, and spiritual being. I need to take care of all aspects of my being, not just the physical. The physical changes won't last if I haven't attended to the emotional and spiritual.

Sometimes, I think weight is my problem. But, when I take the time to journal or check in with my emotional and spiritual sides, I often find that it's not what I'm eating that contributes to weight gain - rather it's "what's eating me?" If I don't check in with my emotional/spiritual self to find out what's eating me, attempts at healing my physical self (weight loss) may be futile.

I don't know if this is true for you, but it is for me. If I tend to my soul (spiritual/emotional self), the physical healing will follow.

Be well,
Nancy

    Somewhere on SparkPeople...I cannot remember where!! I read this on someone's page:

I am a soul with a body, not a body with a soul.

I thought this was so profound! Obvious, simple, true...but I had always thought of it the other way around!! It goes right along with what you are saying!

After I read that, I printed it out and I have put in a lot of places where I can see it every day. My mirror, by my desk at school, my wallet. It reminds me that my body must be cared for because it is the earthly home for my soul and I have a spiritual duty to see to it that I take the very best care of it until those days are up!

    That was a short but powerful blog. This is absolutely about the whole package - not just weight. There are simply a multitude of things that will be addressed that have nothing to do with a scale or tracker.

Good for you for being so self-aware.

    I completely understand what you're saying. If you have an emotional crisis going on, you're not going to realize that you're snacking all the time or just laying on the couch eating unhealthy food and not moving around like you should, which can cause a weight problem. Especially being a woman, with our emotions constantly fluttering all the time, it is extremely difficult to keep motivated with a diet/exercise plan when we're stressed or depressed or whatever. Keep thinking positive and make sure you talk with your friends who will keep you sane emoticon

Cling to Hope Always

Saturday, July 17, 2010

This morning, I read the following in my daily meditation booklet "The Word Among Us" --

"We need to cling to hope at all times, and especially when things seem darkest. We need to learn how to stand firmly on the truth of our faith. God is on our side. He will never abandon us. He is always with us!

If you find yourself lacking in hope, ask God to give you more. You may as well get as much as you can now, when you need it. It won't be of much use to you in heaven. After all, that's where all of our hopes and dreams will be fulfilled. So ask now, and your generous Father will pour it out!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have read so many stories of hope on Spark People. This community is such a blessing to me. Together we CAN do what we cannot do alone. And God will truly do for us what we cannot do for ourselves - when we ask Him.
Keep on Sparking and spreading hope to the world!
Be well,
Nancy
Quote about Perseverance
Sunday, June 13, 2010
By perseverance the snail reached the ark.
C. H. Spurgeon
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sometimes, what we do on a daily basis seems insignificant. But, if we remember the little snail who also reached the ark, our seemingly insignificant daily healthier lifestyle choices will make a big impact when we look back at the last week, month, year of our life. Today, be the snail and persevere!

Blessings on your day, my fellow Sparkers!
