Day 107 Accountability

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Thursday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - 20 minutes on elliptical; 45 minutes physical therapy and stretching exercises.
emoticon2 - 100 mile challenge - 2.45 miles on elliptical today, 57.61 miles for the month.
emoticon3 - Calories - 1,549.
emoticon4 - Sleep - 6 hours
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon6 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 5 veggies.
emoticon7 - Soul food - Acts 5:27-33 -- Those apostles keep getting arrested and warned not to teach about Jesus. This time, Peter says to the Sanhedrin high priest, "Obedience to God comes before obedience to men..." It so infuriated them that they wanted to kill the apostles. Such courage the apostles had, once they were filled with the Holy Spirit. We have that same Spirit within us. Do I act courageous when it comes to my faith?

April 2012 accountability goals --
1 - Exercise at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. I had to back off of running until I get the results of my MRI in early April.
2 - I accepted a team challenge to log bicycling miles in April. My goal is 100 miles. My team mates have decided we can rack up the miles any way we can. Mine will be a combination of bicycling and elliptical.
3 - Track my food and limit my calories to less than 1800 per day. Goal weight is 145 pounds by end of May.
4 - Sleep 6+ hours per night.
5 - Stop Sparking by 10:30pm. I'm moving up my curfew by 30 minutes. I'm not getting to bed early enough to get my six hours of sleep. We'll see if this 10:30 curfew works better in April.
6 - Eat 1 fruit and 4 veggies per day.
7 - Feed my soul by reading scripture daily.

More Soul Food, this story made me think of your posts:

The Wicker Coal Basket

The story is told of an old man who lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson.
Each morning, Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading from his old worn-out Bible. His grandson who wanted to be just like him tried to imitate him in any way he could..

One day the grandson asked, 'Papa, I try to read the Bible just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book.
What good does reading the Bible do?'
The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and said, 'Take this old wicker coal basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water.'

The boy did as he was told, even though all the water leaked out before he could get back to the house.
The grandfather laughed and said, 'You will
have to move a little faster next time,' and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.
This time the boy ran faster, but again the old wicker
basket was empty before he returned home.
Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was 'impossible to carry water in a basket,' and he went
to get a bucket instead.
The old man said, 'I don't want a bucket of water;
I want a basket of water. You can do this.
You're just not trying hard enough,'
and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got far at all.
The boy scooped the water and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty.
Out of breath, he said, 'See Papa, it's useless!'

'So you think it is useless?' the old man said.
'Look at the basket.'

The boy looked at the basket and for the first time he realized that the basket looked different.
Instead of a dirty old wicker coal basket, it was clean.

'Son, that's what happens when you read the Bible.
You might not understand or remember everything,
but when you read it, it will change you
from the inside out.'

Moral of the wicker basket story:
Take time to read a portion of God's word each day;
it will affect you for good even if you don't retain a word.

Thought for Today:
God's Love is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings
but not its end.

I really like this story because I don't retain things too well
anymore...age may have something to do with it but I figure my brain just gets overloaded!
God isn't concerned about my brain anyway;
He's more concerned about my heart.

You are doing great in every way! WTG!

Day 106 Accountability

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Wednesday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - unplanned rest day. I blew off swim class tonight - well, thought it best for my red and swollen eye not to get in chlorinated water. Not sure what's going on with my eye - it's all blood shot and sore, probably allergies. Problem is, I'm allergic to all the eye drops the doctor has tried on me. I will do some of my physical therapy exercises before going to bed.
emoticon2 - 100 mile challenge - 0 miles today, 55.16 miles for the month. I gotta get a move on!
emoticon3 - Calories - 1,583.
emoticon4 - Sleep - 6 hours
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon6 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 4 veggies.
emoticon7 - Soul food - John 3:16-21 -- The most famous sports arena bible verse, John 3:16, "For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." I think it is so cool that Tim Tebow put that scripture on his undereye grease mark -- and even more cool that he didn't get fined for it! Do I have the courage to be so bold about my faith?

Day 105 Accountability

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Tuesday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - 20 minutes recumbent bike; 45 minutes physical therapy excises.
emoticon2 - 100 mile challenge - 5.76 miles today, 55.16 miles for the month.
emoticon3 - Calories - 1,968. Dinner out at a financial planning seminar. Calories weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. Had a couple of truffles for dessert. That put me over.
emoticon4 - Sleep - 5.5 hours plus a nap during massage!
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 11pm.
emoticon6 - Freggies - 2 fruit, 4 veggies.
emoticon7 - Soul food - Acts 4:32-37 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, as everything they owned was held in common. None of their members was ever in want. Those who owned land or houses sold them and gave the money to the apostles, who distributed it to those in need. WOW, and sometimes I think tithing is tough?

This is a reflection that came in my email today. Kind of speaks to today's soul food --
"Since you canít do good for everybody, first care for those who by chance of place or time or any other circumstance are closest to you. When our Lord told us not to invite our friends, brothers, and kinsmen to our banquet, but rather the poor and disabled, He was not forbidding us to invite kinsmen as such, but rather forbidding the kind of inviting that wants to be invited back, and stems from greed rather than charity." --St. Thomas Aquinas

Day 104 Accountability

Monday, April 16, 2012

Monday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - 45 minutes swimming.
emoticon2 - 100 mile challenge - 0 miles today, 49.4 miles for the month.
emoticon3 - Calories - 1,759
emoticon4 - Sleep - 5 hours.
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - midnight. I swore I wasn't going to come back on here once I got home from swimming, but I did. And now it's almost tomorrow. Sweet dreams!
emoticon6 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.
emoticon7 - Soul food - Acts 4:23-31. The apostles are released from prison and told not to preach anymore about Jesus. They prayed for strength and wisdom to continue proclaiming the message with all fearlessness and allowing them the work miracles through the name of Jesus. As they prayed, the house they were praying in rocked and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly. If I was praying and my house rocked, I'd probably think there was an earthquake! Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

Day 103 Accountability

Sunday, April 15, 2012

Divine Mercy Sunday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - 60 minutes pulling weeds & trimming shrubs.
emoticon2 - 100 mile challenge - 0 miles today, 49.4 miles for the month.
emoticon3 - Calories - 1,467. The Easter bunnies are all gone. Harry polished off the last one today. Better him than me!
emoticon4 - Sleep - 9 hours.
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 10:30 pm.
emoticon6 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 5 veggies.
emoticon7 - Soul food - John 20:19-31. Jesus appears to the disciples, but Thomas is not present. When the disciples tell Thomas that they have seen Jesus, he says, "Unless I can see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe." When Jesus later appears to the disciples when Thomas is present, Jesus invites Thomas to put his fingers into his wounds. Thomas's response this time is, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus blesses those who have not seen and believe. I feel blessed! Do you?
