Day 76 Accountability

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Monday --

emoticon1 - Exercise - 50 minutes swimming.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1501.
emoticon3 - Water - 8 cups.
emoticon4 - Sleep - 6 hours.
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 11:05pm. Close enough!
emoticon6 - Tax prep - done & filed!
emoticon7 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.
emoticon8 - Blog

March 2012 accountability goals --
1 - Exercise at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. I'm training for a triathlon sprint. I did something to my knee (perhaps torn cartilage), so I'm not able to run right now. My knee swells anytime I do something that is high impact. So, in March, I will swim, use the elliptical machine, walk, or bike as the weather permits.
2 - Track my food and limit my calories to no more than 1800 per day. Lose 5 pounds by Easter so that I'll weigh what my driver's license says that I weigh.
3 - Drink 8 cups of water each day.
4 - Sleep 6+ hours per night.
5 - Stop Sparking by 11pm. The # of hours that I sleep is directly proportional to how late I Spark. I'm going to be accountable to this Spark curfew.
6 - Progress on tax preparation. Goal date to get everything to the accountant is March 19.
7 - Eat 1 fruit and 4 veggies per day.
8 - Report my progress to the world every day by writing my accountability blog.

i had a sonic blast the other day. gosh was that great. glad that the sonic is not within walking distance. it is bad enough that there is an icecream stand 10 miles away. i only allow myself to get icecream there if i ride my bike over. maybe one day i will walk over!

Day 73 Accountability & Weigh-in Day

Friday, March 16, 2012

Friday --

Today is the Team's weigh-in day. I was down 1.7 lbs from last week. I have 2.4 lbs to go before I'm back to the weight on my driver's license. My goal is to be at or below my driver's license weight by my birthday, which is the day after Easter.

I had an appointment with my orthopedic doctor this morning. I go back for an MRI on Tuesday. The doc said that I may have torn cartilage. I've already had 2 surgeries on that knee for torn cartilage. The doc is going to be on vacation, so I won't get the results of the MRI until April 5.

I didn't wear my medal from last fall's 5K, but I brought it and showed it to the doc! I told him that I put off coming to him because I was afraid he was going to tell me that I can't do the triathlon. He said that I can work out any way that I want, but if I continue to run/do impactful exercise, I will be back to him sooner than later for a knee replacement. Well, when he put it THAT way, doing the tri doesn't sound quite as important anymore. I'll have to talk to him further when I go back for the results of the MRI. I neglected to tell him that the tri is a sprint, where the run is only 5K. I wonder if he thinks I'm running a marathon?

emoticon1 - Exercise - unplanned rest day due to doctor appt. My planned rest days are on the weekend, so I'll make sure to get some exercise in this weekend. It should be beautiful weather for a nice walk along the Riverwalk.
emoticon2 - Calories - 1812.
emoticon3 - Water - 10 cups.
emoticon4 - Sleep - 7 hours.
emoticon5 - Spark curfew - 10pm.
emoticon6 - Tax prep - done & filed!
emoticon7 - Freggies - 1 fruit, 4 veggies.

Hey Nancy don't count the tri out just yet. YOU can do a RELAY!! You can have another athlete/friend do the run portion for you. Every tri I have ever done has a relay section. You can complete one tri with up to 3 different athletes It's done all the time. If you have your heart set on swimming and biking, you can take your friends time for the run. Check the rules of your race. You are still in the "running" so to speak for a triathlon race!! If walking is doable, walking is also allowed just as in any race....Think about your options. The older I get the slower I get. For me I focus on what I can do. I can't run very well any more, so I walk. I'm still getting it done! Some day I will look for relay racers to race with me. emoticon

My goal has been my driver's license weight, too! I guess I don't look too far off of it since they don't question it when I renew. That would be just awful if they make us all weigh in like at the doctor's office! Yikes! I'd be driving with an expired license for decades!

Take care of that knee! emoticon

Awww Nan, sorry about the knee. that is the same thing my doc told me last april about my hip. the only reason i quit running. of course, little if any pain is a great reason too! i will have to look up the distances on tris. the one Jane and i are hoping to do will have a 5k.

Although I support your decisions; I have to echo IUHRYTR's concerns. Running is really a major stress on all our joints and just reading of the injuries posted here by runners who are unwilling to give it up is enough for me. I never have felt it was healthy for women of any age and certainly not "past a certain age". A walker I will always be. Brisk walking can give you the benefits without the risk; just takes a little longer.
WooHoo! So glad you have the taxes behind you! Doesn't that feel great?!

At the risk of seeming to be giving unsolicited advice, I think if it were me I'd have a heart-to-heart with myself and decide which was more important, running or the possibility of needing a knee replacement. I faced a somewhat similar situation last month when I acknowledged, sadly, I would not be able to bowl any more pro tournaments because of the damage to my back the long multi-day, multi-game formats would cause. I truly do hope all works out for you. -- Lou

The number on this scale will not tell you...

Friday, March 16, 2012

It's just a number, really!

The number on this scale will not tell you...
* What a great person you are
* How much your friends and family love you
* That you are kind, smart, funny & amazing in ways numbers cannot define
* That you have the power to choose happiness
* Your own self-worth

This was on one of my friend's Facebook pages today. So appropriate for weigh-in day!
