My Tomato is 1lb 4 oz.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

I picked this tomato yesterday and it weighs 1lb 4oz. That will surely make a nice sandwich today. Once slice will more than cover the bread. Lori, you said you would like one slice for a sandwich and I would certainly share with you if you lived close by.

Our backyard is so fertile, and I have only fetilized it once when planted and then in about 2 weeks. We need to cut the grass back there every 3-4 days. This was farmland before the houses were built here.

THE TOMATOES HERE ARE GOING NUTS TOO. ONE SLICE WILL COVER AN ENTIRE SLICE OF BREAD. LOVE THEM! I MADE A SHRIMP MEDITERRANEAN PASTA WITH FRESH TOMATOES THE OTHER NIGHT AND IT WAS AMAZING.
BUT OUR CORN IS STUNTED DUE TO LACK OF RAIN. HOME GARDENS WE CAN WATER, BUT NOT MUCH GOING ON IN THE BIG FIELDS.

Check out my Hibiscus Flowers

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Here are hibiscus photos from two of my plants. One is red and the other is white with a pink throat. The plant in the middle got most of it's buds (that were ready to bloom) broken off in the storm 2 weeks ago. Those flowers are peppermint pink and white and I will post a photo of them when they bloom. They do have big buds but are not quite ready to open. I love those flowers because they are so big. Even though they only last a day, it is still one of my favorites because there are always some blooming each day.

Single Red:

Single White:

The whole white bush:

All three bushes: no blooms on middle one yet

Today's Squash Bounty

Thursday, July 05, 2012

My little veggie garden gave me quite a few squash today. Photo below: yellow crookneck, straight neck and one zucchini. We froze 7 bags for servings when we can't just pick it fresh.

I found this blog by way if KITT52. I'm curious how you freeze your squash. I've shredded them and frozen them for zucchini (squash) bread, but never frozen them otherwise. Do you cook them first? How do you cut them?

I've got squash ready very soon in my garden. We have yellow summer squash, butternut and acorn. I like zucchini, but my husband doesn't care for it as much, so we just grow the yellow.

Tomato Plant is Taller than I am

Friday, June 29, 2012

Check out how big my garden has grown since my last photo.....I am behind one of the tomato plants and one side of the plant is taller than I am. We picked our first squash today. The birds ate all of my seeds and I had to replant, so they are a little later than they would have been.

Great garden, what an inspiration! Where I live, the growing season is very short and it is rare that I get ANY tomatoes; usually I have to take in green ones when it starts to freeze and let them ripen on the window sill. All those fresh veggies are a blessing! emoticon
