Today's Squash Bounty

Thursday, July 05, 2012

My little veggie garden gave me quite a few squash today. Photo below: yellow crookneck, straight neck and one zucchini. We froze 7 bags for servings when we can't just pick it fresh.

I found this blog by way if KITT52. I'm curious how you freeze your squash. I've shredded them and frozen them for zucchini (squash) bread, but never frozen them otherwise. Do you cook them first? How do you cut them?

I've got squash ready very soon in my garden. We have yellow summer squash, butternut and acorn. I like zucchini, but my husband doesn't care for it as much, so we just grow the yellow.

Tomato Plant is Taller than I am

Friday, June 29, 2012

Check out how big my garden has grown since my last photo.....I am behind one of the tomato plants and one side of the plant is taller than I am. We picked our first squash today. The birds ate all of my seeds and I had to replant, so they are a little later than they would have been.

Great garden, what an inspiration! Where I live, the growing season is very short and it is rare that I get ANY tomatoes; usually I have to take in green ones when it starts to freeze and let them ripen on the window sill. All those fresh veggies are a blessing! emoticon

My Little Veggie Garden 6-14-12

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Here is a photo of my little veggie garden. My tomatoes are doing really well...we have gotten 3 tomatoes already. The squash (3 different kinds--zucchini, yellow crookneck, and straight neck) is a little behind because the birds ate all of the seeds I planted in the beginning. The green beans are doing nicely.....vining up the fence. As far as the cucumbers, the birds ate all of those seeds too so they are just getting started again. We also have onions in a different area....some are as large as baseballs and we have picked them, but still have others. I love gardening and will share more photos as things progress.

Your garden looks great. Y'all had birds eat your seed? We had rabbits eating ours. We've replanted green beans twice. I've had cucmbers this year but am waiting on everything else.
