Got a call from the hospital early Monday morning saying that Mom was being discharged Tuesday and what facility did I want her to go for rehab. Well, I was completely at a loss.....we only moved here in December and you know I wouldn't have even thought of checking out any rehab centers.....didn't even consider needing one. The case manager suggested a few and then I called my neighbor to see if she knew anything about any of those. She said one of them was the best rehab around here and it is very nice, clean, well-managed and a very good reputation. We immediately got in the car and went there. I was amazed how nice it was and very happy that we had that one as a choice. The facility has a craft room, aviary, tv room, porch areas for patients to sit. I hurried over to the hospital and told the person in charge, which one we had chosen. She got on the computer and said she had sent a request to 3 places and the one we chose had answered yes. We right away sent a confirmation that we wanted Mom to go there. Today Mom will be moved so she will be able to start her rehabilitation which will probably last 6-8 weeks. All of the paper work was done for us and I had a great weight lifted from my shoulders. The good thing is, it is only 5 minutes away from our home. We can just run over there everyday or even several times a day so she will have some company. She came to stay with us in February after a fall she had. All of her friends are where she had lived all of her life which is 2 1/2 hrs away...That part is sad. She did make several friends here at the senior center but most of them have no transportation. My next-door neighbor really likes Mom and went to visit her in the hospital, so I am sure she will visit her in rehab too. I know it will be lonely for her, but I at least can go really often to visit. Please keep her in your prayers that she will have a speedy recovery.

First, I want to thank everyone for all of the well wishes, prayers, spark goodies and comforting words to me and my family regarding Mom. Yesterday, when we went to visit, she was complaining of shoulder pain and they did come and take an x-ray. I didn't hear anything so I am guessing nothing was broken there. I will check when I go visit this morning. When hubby and I got there yesterday she was eating breakfast and seemed in good spirits. Hubby is so good with Mom and can almost always make her laugh. The physical therapist came in and decided since she was having the shoulder pain, she would not give any therapy until that issue was addressed. The therapist just talked with her. Mom's appetite is healthy so hopefully this will strengthen her. As of right now, I don't know the whole game plan......but I should be talking with the doctor today. Not much happens in hospitals on weekends. Later in the afternoon, my neighbor and I both went to visit Mom and again she was doing pretty well . Her favorite thing for food is a strawberry milkshake so we stopped on the way to get one for her and she was really happy about that. Mom is 86 years old and I know we have a long road ahead of us with the broken pelvis trying to heal. She did not have to have surgery (thank goodness). If anything is good in all of this, the hospital is only 5 minutes from my home, so I can just pop in there very easily. Again, thanks for all of the support you have extended to me and my family because it is greatly appreciated. to everyone....

My really good friend in North Carolina sent me a photo frame with a picture of our 5 generations. I had no clue she was sending anything. The frame is very unique to me as I have never seen anything like it before . I haven't had a chance to talk to her since he was born (he will be 2 weeks tomorrow). We have dialed each other to talk on several occasions, but we keep missing each other. Char for such a wonderful gift.
