Peppermint Schnapps Hybrid Hibisbus

Sunday, July 24, 2011

I have been working in the yard for 3 hours this morning. I sure did get a lot of weeds pulled. This hot weather has made it really hard to work in the yard unless you go out really early. With the weeds, you have to pull them each day or they get ahead of you quickly. Mine had gotten way ahead of me even though I do some every day. I also cut off all of the dead daisies that belong to my neighbor.

I also picked tomatoes and squash. I trimmed back the bottom stems of the tomatoes that had started to turn yellow. I also cut off a lot of the BIG squash leaves. Don't know if I should have done that or not, but it sure looks a lot better.

Well, I took a photo of my Peppermint Schnapps Hydrid Hibiscus. It is so beautiful and I want to share it with you. It doesn't have a lot of blooms yet, but lots of buds waiting to open their pretty face.

I think the squash leaves help shield the squash from the sun. emoticon

Sweet Dreams Festival sponsored by Hershey's Chocolate

Saturday, July 23, 2011

This morning Hubby and I went to the Sweet Dreams Festival in Stuart's Draft, VA. It is only about 10 miles away. It is sponsored by Hershey's Chocolate of VA. and they have a plant right in Stuart's Draft. After parking, a bus took you up the hill to everything. First off this morning, there was a 5K. We didn't get there for it but had it not been so hot, I would have done it. Lots of crafters there. Lots of giveaways......free water, free toothbrushes, free t-shirts, and lots of other things. Also, a band playing country music. Corn hole contest, blowup slides for the kids and LOTS of other things. All of this was free. When you got on the bus, the driver had a big box of Hershey's Reese's giving them out by the handful. We had a great time and it would be a great family time for everyone. I am posting a few pictures:

I'm glad you had a good time and got lots of free stuff. Keith and I don't live far away either so we got up early to make the 5K run. I managed to actually run half way then I had to walk the rest. I did get the free T-shirt but passed up the free toothbrush. It was a very nice morning. I look forward to doing it again next year. Maybe I can set a goal to run 5K. I have not run in many many years so I pleased with running 1/2 and walking half.

New Deck Rails

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Today hubby and I put up the new wrought iron rails we had made for the deck. We had them painted to match the color of the house and we love them. We have just another small section to order and will then be done. We had a change in plans after we started putting them up. We have decided to extend a small amount on the end to hold the grill so we have to have a "U" section made to attach to the new platform, which we still have to build..

We still have to either replace the lattice on the bottom or paint it the color of the rails... Thinking to replace it.

The tall plants (pics 1 & 3) won't always be there...they are some of my tomato plants and they will be in different place next year.

SP really running slow

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I won't be sparking until SP gets to moving a little faster. I can't believe how long it takes for a page to load. Will try again in a little while. Is anyone else having a problem with it running so slow?

Mine has been slow for the last few days. Maybe it's because of the energy demands from this xtreme heat.
