Thursday, November 25, 2010

I would like to wish all of Spark People friends a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING. I am so thankful for my health, family, and friends. Also, for the turkey dinner our friends are fixing for our meal today since we are pretty much packed up for our move. Nancy

More packing

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

My hubby has been packing us for 3 months while I recuped from 2 surgeries. He is away for his annual hunting trip and I have been packing a little of what is left. Today, I packed most of the pantry, only left 4 plates, saucers, mugs and a few serving bowls. I also packed a few more of my clothes. I now only have about 3' of clothes hanging in my closet. AS bad as packing is, it will be worse unpacking. That is because I will be able physically to help whereas I wasn't able physically to do much of the packing. emoticon. I am glad however that I am fortunate enough to be well enough to help.

Last day of physical therapy

Monday, November 22, 2010

Today is my last day of physical therapy at the rehab office. The reason is we are moving next week from NC to VA. It has been 11 weeks and I am doing really well, even ahead of schedule. I have worked very hard to get where I am. I have been going 3 days a week and did p/t at home 3 times a day to start and then down to 2 times a day. I was worried about not still going to therapy because I want to make sure I get full range of motion back in my shoulder. It is going to take up to one year before that happens. My therapist showed my husband how to stretch me and she gave me a whole packet of exercises to continue doing at home. The exercises are demanding, but I don't mind if it gets me where I need to be. At least now I don't have to travel 40 minutes each way to have p/t, I can do only at home.

Turkey Dinner Yesterday

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Each year our community has a turkey dinner for anyone that wants to attend. The cost is just to bring a covered dish. Yesterday was that day and over 100 people were there. One of the "clubs" in our community sponsors this event and for the event yesterday, they cooked 6 turkeys to share. There were so many interesting and good tasting dishes. I did very well and only put a small amount of food (no rolls) on my plate. I had a smidgeon of pie for dessert and only ate the inside, no crusts. They also do a 50/50 raffle. Yesterday the 2 names drawn donated their proceeds to the local food kitchen. Also, the remaining of the raffle was given to the food kitchen. I think it totaled $88. This is a wonderful community and gives so much to others. I have attended this event every year since we moved here , However, this is the last because we are moving in about 10 days to VA. I certainly will miss the people and events that go on here.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. All communities should do something like that. Sounds like you did well on your eating plan. Thank you for commenting on my page about Daisy.

Good luck on the move. Who knows? You may find an even better community at the new place-you just need to look for them!

Messed Up

Friday, November 19, 2010

It is so hard to call on the phone in today's time and get something straight. I called one business 5 times recently (3 of those calls today) and I got a different answer each time. This was something that was really important and could really cause a huge problem if not done correctly. The last person I spoke with told me it would be better to do NOTHING until we actually get moved. She straightened out the messes the previous persons did. Not many people do their jobs today. I am used to be very detailed and getting things done. It used to be you could call on phone and it would be done immediately. Not any more. I told my daughter I feel really bad for her and my grandchildren to live in times ahead that seems most people don't do their jobs. I truly am glad I am the age I am. When I told one of our employees that is was upsetting to keep calling to get things right, he said "you just get used to it and you keep calling until it is done". How sad is that.????????

I hear you Nancy. Lack of training, an "I don't care" attitude, whatever happened to taking pride in "a job well done" Times have certainly changed.

The 'I could care less' attitude come in part I believe from people only being part time, not paid all that great, no sick time, no paid holidays & no paid vacations. When employers don't want to pay the price to have loyal dedicated employees so they can save a few bucks they get what they pay for. Employees who don't do a very good job at all and really don't care.
Sorry you had to go through all of that!!!!!

I agree. You finally get someone sometimes who seems to know what they are talking about and promise it will be fixed and then you find out it still isn't!

It is very sad, I agree, I have had 2 cable companies that I swear I think were trying to give me a heart attack, and they kept saying oh we'll fix it, Ha!
