Skinny Santa Poem

Monday, July 19, 2010

This poem I wrote for our Rootin' for Ruby Skinny Santa Team

Skinny Santa, Skinny Santa
Your suits are too big for you.
We are losing pounds to donate
Because that's what we must do.

We are eating right and doing exercise
and drinking water too
We want to give you all our pounds
Because that's what we must do.

When Christmas comes, you will get our pounds
and try on your red suits.
You will look in the mirror and you will think
All I need are my black boots.

You will thank "Rootin' for Ruby" gals
Because we are so sweet.
We worked really hard to lose the weight
and you got what we didn't eat!

I love it! But I can't help but wonder - what if someone tried to give us back the weight we have lost? I would shoot first and ask questions later.

fruit/veggie shopping

Sunday, July 18, 2010

When I do my fruit and veggie shopping, I come home, wash items to make ready to eat and then put in fridge. Like grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, & all melon fruits, I cut in bite size pieces and put in a baggie in fridge, so I have a healthy snack at hand without doing anything besides grabbing the bag and putting some in a bowl. This makes me less likely to grab something not so healthy because of it being easier. Some berries it is better not to wash until just ready to eat, but I usually wash them and have ready also.

I do that also. And with grapes, I freeze them on a cookie sheet and then bag them in 100 calorie increments. Love em!!

I do the same thing and it's amazing how much more I grab the healthy snack than junk. When I want a snack I don't want to have to prepare it, I want to grab it. Lol

It's always better to get all that prep done. You're right, much easier to grab and go. Good job!

Lazy Day

Saturday, July 17, 2010

I got up early as usual and my walking buddy and I went for our walk at 6:30. We walked 4.01 miles. When I got home, I settled on the front porch with a bowl of ice cold watermelon to get cooled off. That always does it for me or I have a serving of cold grapes or cold cantaloupe...and of course emoticon. After cooling off, I went and did a little gardening for 30 minutes. That did it for me. I was exhausted from the heat/humidity, and I haven't done anything the rest of the day. emoticon. It is a good thing I don't follow that pattern every day. We do walk everyday and then most always work in the yard, but I don't just give out for the rest of the day. I guess I could say I had a day of rest, even if it is Saturday not Sunday. Have a good rest of the weekend. emoticon Nancy

Ah! I have been produce shopping today and bought watermelon and cantaloupe, got them chilling in outside fridge as we speak, That is going to be my snack tonight, and the cantaloupe smells so so good.

Lazy days are the best. They so seldom come along. Mine don't happen because I don't plan them . . . and the guilt of not working takes away the fun. I need to LEARN to have some lazy days.

No longer leaking

Thursday, July 15, 2010

BP says the oil is no longer leaking. Even though it is not a permanent fix, it is no longer leaking/gushing. Hopefully the permanent fix will be complete soon and we have no more problems. It is a crying shame that this has happened and has taken so long to get it stopped.

I have a BFF in Louisiana and her guy knows many of the workers and what they are telling us on the news and what the real problem was are two different things. Of course everyone wants to point a finger at everyone else but BP reported the possibility of this happening to Obama last October and nothing was done to change to better quality building equipment. So say the oil rig workers.

I just wrote the same thing on Lori's page about the impact on the people's lives as well as the unfortunate animals. I think everyone is thoroughly disgusted with the way BP has handled this. It is uncalled for and should never have happened in the first place and then to go on for so long was unthinkable.

I hope the cap works. I am not at all happy with how BP has handled this. It is disgusting that it was leaking for so long. My heart goes out to all the people who are affected by this disaster. The pictures of the oil covered animals is heartbreaking, but sometimes we forget that PEOPLE are suffering because of this too. The impact on their livelihoods is appalling.
