It's over

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Well, the end of the week has come and my reign of Ruby-Lite of the week also ended. I am so honored for being chosen. I also want to thank everyone for the out pouring of emails, congrats, and spark goodies. I tried to answer all personally and hope I didn't miss anyone. I really love Spark People and know that it gives so much encouragement and support. I read blogs that are sad and ones that are happy and it makes you stop and truly think about life. I am a person who always tries to find a positive in everything........sometimes you have to look a little harder. I want to wish everyone good luck on this weight loss journey and remember to always look forward. emoticon Nancy

Storms...please bring one on

Saturday, June 26, 2010

We have had severe thunderstorm warnings for the past 3 days. Guess what..a lot of thunder, a little lightning and NO RAIN. We need rain so badly and have only had a few drizzles. I would just love to have a nice rain to do my walk. It has been so hot that I haven't been doing my full walk because of the heat. Even if we have a really bad storm, that would hopefully help cool things down. Then a walk in the cooler temps would be great. My walking partner returns tomorrow and maybe she can encourage me to go for complete walk even with the temps high. To all of you who do your walk with this extreme walk I give you lots of "High Fives" Nancy

Same here, noise and lightning but minimal rain. One day it rained for a few minutes about 1 mile away and there was steam coming up from the road. It didn't rain enough to cool anything down. I don't do outside in this weather.

I hope it gets cooler soon! It's been so hot here too!! We did have a slight break yesterday...in the 90's but much lower humidity. It was back to yucky today. We need rain too, although we have had a couple of very good and big storms. They were so quick though that they didn't really do much.

Perhaps you could invest in a DVD like T-Tapp's Step Away The Inches..or Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home . These allow you to stay INdoors and still get your walking workout.

You need rain too? We have been in a 3 yr drought...its hectic. But at least we had a little rain recently and our dam has gotten a little more water now. We went from 17% - 25% so we're smiling now. Still in a drought, but grateful for the rain we got. Its drizzling faintly as I type.

The dog knew best !!!!

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Even the dog has enough sense to not walk when it is so hot. Yesterday, hubby was walking our chocolate lab and they were starting around the walking trail for the second time. The dog just sat down. Larry said, c'mon Brewster, let's finish our walk. Brewster just looked at him and went from sitting to lying down. Larry again said, C'mon Brew and Brew just looked up like "are you crazy?" He wouldn't get up. Then Larry said, OK, let's go home and Brew jumped up and headed up the trail instead of back around. I guess the dog knew best.......he seemed to know this was too hot a day to go around the trail again. emoticon emoticon Dogs really are smart, aren't they? I love my chocolate lab so much.

Brewster really is smart in so many other ways. I don't know a lot of dogs (and certainly not mine, LOL) that know what time they get their "big bone" treat and actually take you to the box when you ask what they want. Francine was floored that time she visited you and saw how much Brewster understood.

LOL... I took my dog to the dog park yesterday and he was so happy until about 30 minutes into it... He laid down and looked at me like "You are going to have to carry me home." When he did get up he headed right to the gate. He had made him his mind it was time to go home.

Why so much heat so early in summer????

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

This morning at 10:45 it was already 96 degrees outside. It has been so hot today that I did very little. Walked less, gardened less, etc. Did wash clothes and hang them out, but didn't really want to get them in because it was so hot. I did though. I just don't do heat well, and all this week is going to be mid to high 90's in daytime. WHEW......I believe I will be riding my recumbent bike instead of going for my usual walk. I am just drained because of the heat. I am doing all of this whining and across the street a new house is being built and 9 men were there all day in the heat doing the brick foundation. Have to give them so much credit for staying out in all of that heat.

With the humidity and the heat I'm having trouble too. Just don't feel good and I know it's the weight.

On the other hand, the lightening and storms the night before also meant alot of lost sleep that I haven't quite caught up on either. I'm ready for fall now.

I'm so grateful that I've been working out outside since March (due to Sparkpeople) so that I've acclimated, but the heat the last few days has been vicious. The main problem for me though is that we keep getting thunderstorms early in the morning so I can't get out for bike rides or even fast walks. Tomorrow morning it's supposed to be clear and cooler, so I'm planning on getting out by 5:30am so I can get some time in on the bike. I'll just have to watch for huge puddles and standing water.

I can't take the heat either. Trying to keep up with running is so hard and I don't like the treadmill at all! It's almost 10pm and still 91 here with very high humidity. Supposed to be even hotter tomorrow :-(

Hopefully we will get back to normal temps soon. We don't usually have this heat and humidity until mid July into August!

I live in Tucson, AZ. At 10:45 today, it was over 100! That is why I get up at 5am and walk or do yard work before it gets too hot to stand.

I wish we have had Below normal temps here and a ton of rain. It seems the weather is very mixed up this year.
