Physical Cliff

Monday, November 12, 2012

On January 1, 2012, my hubby fell down some stairs and broke his arm rather seriously. Between getting that healed and having him diagnosed with Early Onset of Alzheimer's, I feel like I fell off a cliff. Of course, that cliff included my spark diet. I did exercise all summer and did pretty well, but with the closing of the local outdoor pool and cold weather, the downward slide continued. I know I need to get myself healthy in order to be a competent emoticon caregiver. However, it is a long lonely road for now. Maybe getting back with spark will "spark" me up the cliff.

I'm so sorry for your struggles.
You are right, you need to take care of yourself so you can care for others. Maybe you need to look for other activities that don't rely on the pool being open.

I understand your feelings. My grandmother had Alzheimer's. It can be scary to be a caregiver at times. But, know you have people here if you need someone to talk to. Always take some time for yourself, even if it is to pop in a video and do some exercise in your living room. And always knows God is with you in this.

I LOVE my pie chart!

Monday, August 22, 2011

I really love my pie chart. I know that I already mentioned using the pie chart every day. WELLLL, last night I was really hungry and well below my minimum calorie goal for the day. So I thought--"I am hungry what should I eat?" Well, thought about those mint chocolate girl scout cookies in the freezer, then about the nuts, then about some fruit, and then about some vegetables we just purchased from the farmers market. What to eat!!?? What to eat!!?? So since I had my laptop in my lap (smart don't you think/), I looked at my nutrition chart and found that my pie chart was way to big in the fat part. So I started looking thru my favorites to find what would fit. Believe it or not, I found that my pretzels were the perfect fit and I could have TWO servings!! They still kept me below my top calorie goal and my pie chart looked much better. I LOVE MY PIE CHART!! emoticon emoticon

I do the exact same thing sometimes!!! Funny! emoticon

Usually though I'm low on protein or fat. I like the sliced turkey rolled up with a piece of pepper jack cheese in the middle.

The first one bites the dust!

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

One year ago in the early spring, I purchased a pair of khaki colored pants. I had been wanting that color and a white pair for awhile. I found both and was quite pleased with the purchase. They are not a fabric I wear during the winter and so they have not been worn very much by this summer.
Yesterday, I put on the khaki pair and every time I walked by the mirror, I thought how bad I looked. I tried my blouse in, then out and thought about changing my blouse, but nothing made it better. Since losing some weight I have enjoyed feeling the inside of my clothing, but this was pushing it to far. I finally decided that these pants looked like pajamas and looked sloppy and were just to big! WOW!! That has not happened in a long time. So, they are the first pants to go OUT of the closet into the thrift store box. I have on the white pair today, because I am only going to be at home sewing and will wash both pairs before they both hit the TSB (thrift store box)! Hopefully, the box will contain more things soon! emoticon

I weigh every morning!

Thursday, August 11, 2011

I KNOW!! I KNOW!! I KNOW!! Every diet book says not to do that because you might get discouraged. However, since I became a SPARK person and they said to use what works for you, I weigh every morning.
At first, it seemed discouraging, but as time has gone along, not so much. In fact, it is wonderful to get on the scale every morning and see what three little numbers pop up. Some of the combinations are ones I thought were completely gone from my scale. Even if it is up a little, it is not has high as I started and that makes me happy.
If I think it is up a little and think I did a good job the day before, I go back to my nutrition page for the previous day and scroll to the bottom and click on the "See today's full report". I really like the little pie chart. Sometimes, I notice that I did in fact consume the right amount of calories, but my pie chart is waaaayyyy different than the spark pie chart--i.e. to many carbs and fats, to little protein.
I read a quote in my puzzle book the other day and it said--You can educate a fool, but you can't make him think. So SPARK is educating me and I am trying not to be the fool that doesn't think on my own.
I still have a long ways to go, but right now this is working for me. As I said, it is WONDERFUL to see the combinations of numbers my scale can now find! No matter what they are better than the combinations of numbers I started with.

Love this! I think its great that you are going with what works for YOU (weighing daily for one)! We can and should listen to the other advice out there but bottom line...DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU...listen to your body...your needs.

I actually had to put my scale away because I was abusing it. I would use the numbers to see just how much I could get away with and for me, that was not good, lol! So I put it away for a month which was too long but I did break myself from the daily weighing and now weigh in weekly.

The point to my babbling is...we have to learn what works for each of us and thats part of what I love about Spark. We get other thoughts/ideas/advice and can learn from the wide range of possibilities what works for us individually. So if weighing daily is what works best for you I think thats great.

I will be checking put that pie chart more closely, glad you mentioned it. Trying to get back on track and more focused.

I weigh every day too. (Some reference to an apple and a tree here.....)

Keep up the good work. I like the pie charts too, it helps me to ensure that my body is properly fueled and heaven knows I need all the help I can get!

Happenings!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

My scale doesn't seem to be moving down, but at least it is not moving up. However, I can feel the inside of my clothes. They all seem to be fitting better. Something must be happening. Inches are disappearing!

Maybe it's because you were on vacation for the past two weeks and out of your ordinary routine??? Plus, the eating out, the wine, the cake from the party..... I think that getting home and not showing a gain is impressive!!!

Hopefully you feel physically better too with the exercising!!!

wait a week and they will show the losses. that's why we are encouraged to measure once a month to give us "non scale victories". You can feel yours...so eyeball it on the tape!
best wishes, Sandra
